I do not like the man, but I do not know if he has his own personal makeup person. It could have been a station employee who did that to him.

HAHAH! I'd can't wait to hear the excuse, classic.

"...of course, the possibility exists that this is Mitt Romney running out of fucks to give and choosing to run the most entertaining screw-up of a campaign the US has ever seen from this point onward."

It looks like a really bad spray tan.

I feel it is very likely he has his own makeup guy, because someone has to do his makeup even when he's not on Univision. But whether they wanted his face five shades darker than his hands and neck to simulate Latino-ness may be up to debate.

He probably has his own makeup guy - and if so, why does he suddenly appear so much darker? lol
Also as this shot shows, he missed his ears and hands lol

A lot of people have a makeup bag, and the studio person does the application for them. I still feel giving him the benefit of the doubt is necessary until more information is available. He does more than enough stupid stuff to make this a nonissue.

I could be incorrect, but it would seem to me that a person who is
a) running for president and making daily TV appearances
b) very wealthy
c) has tens, if not hundreds, of millions of dollars of campaign money
d) a huge campaign staff and
e)is, as all candidates extremely concerned about image;

would most definitely travel with a makeup artist among his or her entourage. :twocents-02cents:

I know other rich people running in the past did not have a personal makeup person for their TV appearances. There is no reason to jump to conclusions about this.

If I'd looked in the mirror previous to going on and looked like that, I would have hastily been washing it off. It looks ridiculous regardless of any failed racial pandering that may or may not have been intended.

It is not supposed to look good in person, it is supposed to look good on camera. Things like this are just a distraction from more important issues and are part of the problem with politics in this country.

I hear ya, bro, which is why I dismissed the idea with the above statement. If it was intended, it was stupid but there's no way to know. The point is, I still would have been washing that shit off. Of course the last time I wore any kind of makeup was for a Halloween costume so I guess I'm just not on TV enough to understand.

From memory, don't those who are running get advice right down to the shoes and tie they wear? The colours, the style - it is actually researched to appeal to voters based upon whatever criteria.

Could applying a bit of fake tan to try and make him appeal to a certain demographic? Surely it'd only be relevant if he's in an area where there is a far higher than average (can't be arsed to read the articles, the terminology is heavily loaded - brown face? It's called fake tan) instead of in a run-of-the-mill (meaning normal) campaigning location.

It wouldn't be that surprising to find it was a recommendation by his campaign team - get a fake tan to make you more appealling to a certain demographic; but I definitely believe that the opposition oriented media are seizing upon his fake tan and link it unequivocally to trying to win a demographics vote, knowing this will cause them to vote for their candidate out of revulsion.

It should be said, they've (being various agencies) probably done a "which is the better candidate" type research where people choose between two different faces - one tanned, one pasty white, and found most people chose the tanned because it's more attractive and we humans are very shallow. He hasn't the time for genuine tan, so apply some fake and hope it wins people over. But the intent is to win a demographic's vote in general? Not so sure - just be very aware that this is exactly what his opposition want you to believe, and will happily twist something to their own advantage.

I would not be surprised if he was told to get a fake tan to appeal more to a certain demographic, but I definitely believe that the opposition oriented media are seizing upon his fake tan and attempting to alter perceptions with regards to its purpose. It's also because he was caught on video telling a group of rich supporters at a fundraiser that life would be much easier if he were latino, rather than a rich white guy.

One of the reasons I am cutting him slack on this is because it looked so bad on camera. It may have been an incompetent or malicious person putting it on. Use his policies, not his appearance, if you want to bad mouth him.

Maybe his latina cleaning lady heard what he was gonna do that day, and put something in his (whatever he puts on his face) to make that happen?

(I'm sorry, that was blatant racial profiling. If he does have a latina cleaning lady, I'm sure she's a very nice woman.)

But it's actually true isn't it. Various media outlets and opposition will attempt to portray his rich white status as implying he cannot relate to the lives of others. I don't think "rich white guy" is a majority, or even a reasonable sized minority.

Questions will be asked about how his finances add up, about his tax, about how he can relate to normal people, about relating to minorities etc. It is currently how the opposition (Labour) in the UK constantly refer to the party in power (Conservatives) - as being rich boys, and out of touch with the general population (as they live in a different world). The simple truth is that Labour were financially incompetent and compulsive liars - which is why they were voted out :D

So if you take away the rich and make you a minority - those questions are gone and the angle of the opposition at trying to cause such a fracture as being why you can't vote for someone is removed :D So he was probably right in what he said, but obviously it's a retarded thing to say when on camera. US* politicians never learn. (* represents the missing bb code for strikethrough - as politicians and political parties the world over make the same mistakes repeatedly).

I have to say - I do not support any US politicians whatsoever and have no political leaning; well, other than I'd have slapped Obama across the mouth for calling the Falkland Islands "Las Malvinas" to certain South American delegates! Certainly if I were a UK reporter I would ask very awkward questions to probe him on this matter if he visited the UK (awkward given his location at the time :D ). But other than that, no view on either candidate. It's going to be a while longer before the UK media start giving us more details about the US candidates (its too long and protracted to care at present).

I just saw a clip from an interview with Romney for an upcoming 60 Minutes and he had the brownish orange look going on there too. I don't think it had anything to do with the Latinos so much. It still looks absurd though.

He wasn't right, it was the fact that he can't see how completely ridiculously wrong he was that is one of the reasons it's so offensive.

He was born a rich white kid to a rich and powerful family - THAT is the number one reason he is able to have gotten where he is and be running for president. To suggest if he had been born Latino that it would be 'easier' is to entirely disregard all the problems, roadblocks, prejudice, money and education costs that would have prevented him from succeeding.

It's offensive because, like many rich white idiots he takes all those things for granted.
