I watched this movie last night on NETFLIX (Canada) and liked it (7.5/10).
Brief brief brief synopsis. New girl in town becomes friends+ with another high school senior and finds out she cams for money, they start doing it together and get into trouble.

PROs
The realistic millennial dialogue is ace as well as the storylines
Cinematography √
Some of the camming scenes are very sensual and interesting conceptually, the cam screen is so funny, looks pretty real
Great party scene

CONs
As a whole doesn't give the best reputation to camming (debatable), but also they are underage (17) so they should definitely not be doing it, and also take way too far... Hollywood ya know.
Definitely some unrealistic camming stuff lol

Has anyone else seen it?

It's kind of hilarious what people think when I say I'm a camgirl. Like it's a lot more taboo or scandalous or glamorous than it feels to me.

Really, I'm just sitting in my room in front of my laptop with only the front (visible) parts of my hair flat ironed, and every part of my room a mess besides what shows up in the frame.

I live simply, haven't been to a party since I was 20, and am super vanilla (cold fish) in bed.

Not that sexy!!

so watching this! love a good documentary. I watched a series on netflix called "Hot girls wanted: Turned on" - episode 5 is the one about cam girls, pretty interesting. I think it actually introduced me to the idea of camming as a job.

My issue with that episode was the girl went to Australia to meet her long-time member which I feel really portrays us the wrong way. I wouldn't ever go out of my way to meet a member, especially traveling across the world by myself to do so. A lot of my members seem to get the idea in their heads that I would pack up and leave my husband and son to go fuck a stranger or date them because they'd given me x-amount of money...

Models are individuals and some DO meet with members for many reason (it's not always about love or sex). I'm sure there are things you do in life that other people would say doesn't portray them. How member and models define their interacts are also highly individualize. I do know a model that left her husband for a member and I've met with models for both relationship purposes and also out of long term business relationships. Relationship building is an organic process it will often happen on it's own.

Also there's still a huge racket of models that press US members to help get visas to visit or attempt to immigrate to the US. So it's not so rare for regular members of these models to be suggested travel to gain that visa. Cammodeling is a global business so you can't just apply US logic to all model situations. US model represent a minority of total models.

Oops I accidentally referenced the wrong episode there’s another episode that features bailey raine In it. I think it’s the one about porn.
Completely agree with you about the girl who visits the guy in australia .. very naive and stupid of her, found it so hard to not cringe while watching that episode

It was entertaining enough, always fun to see a film centered around what I do for a living.

I hate that so many stories about camming end up with the cam girl going to visit a member. It's frustrating that so many cam girls are depicted this way. Both in this work of fiction, and in documentaries about camming, they seem to LOVE including stories of in-person visits going wrong. UGH.

It's far from documentary though for anyone above who may have been confused.

But it's a drama. You can't really create drama without emotional bonding of the characters. However dramatic emotional bonding between members and models usually only leads to two possible outcomes. Either they develop and positive emotional relationship either between friendly relations to love or a negative relationship which is between non communication to stalking.

If the characters acted like robots the movie would be boring and nothing to drive the plot.

I suppose the third option is to make the camsite or network into some omnipotent antagonist that is forcing the story forward. Like some camsite terminator that 'deletes' low income models and the members are forced to spend or find more members or watch their model die in some sort of Batman villian trap fashion. I should write this down.

So the reality of an average cam girl's experience is too boring to make into a movie as-is. :)

I felt this episode was sweet in its own way, but you're right that it painted out the cam model/member relationship in the wrong way. I felt her whole thing about having her partner in the room while she was on skype with the member was not usual, especially as the partner was clearly not ok with it and there were so few boundaries within their relationships. I have met up with several member friends and have had very close relationships, but I've never experienced such blurred boundaries. Maybe this is normal for some, but I cannot see it being the norm in relationships with cam models. It also kind of made out that members are all just in love with us and spending every spare penny they have on their camgirl relationship.

The problem is with any film or documentary involving camming, is that they need it to be at least the little bit shocking or no one will want to watch it. Camming unfortunately for them is mostly pretty generic and mundane. Like, I want it to be all glamorous sometimes, but generally it's just putting shed tons of make up on, logging onto your computer and sitting there in your underwear talking and doing occasional dances and shows. If you're a top model who's getting loads of tips then that's pretty exciting as your countdowns move super quickly and people are always tipping for stuff, but for the most part as a more mid range model you can expect some great sessions where you're super active, but most sessions are hustling for tokens and trying your best to stop yourself and everyone else get bored to sleep, with the odd bit of action. And really, how exciting is lying back and masturbating if you're not using it to jerk off to? It would be pretty hard to make that vanilla.
The stresses and difficulties of camming are like "I don't get to go outside enough and meet real life people", or "I don't enjoy doing my taxes". Very rarely you might get a stalker/creeper situation, or a bad member, but to even spend time talking about this wouldn't be representative of camming. How exciting is it really having someone who's pretty dam normal sitting on their own in front of a laptop for a few hours, then logs off and goes to the supermarket/the gym like a normal human being after work?

My partner is in the same room when i cam and its normal for us....but for cam i do mostly anal stuff and dildos so i guess i am mostly vanilla too.

I think that it's still not the norm for most models. On MFC for example you can get banned just for having someone in the same room. There are also legal issues due to the site not knowing if the person you're with is of age. I have also heard members mentioning things like hearing a male cough or someone in the background and being put off, so I think that's probably why it's not the norm. In this episode what seemed particularly unusual was that she had a particular relationship with this member, the member clearly feeling that something more was going on, almost a poly-amorous relationship. So when she was on Skype and her boyfriend was there, the member and boyfriend actively interacted before the member got his show. The boyfriend was clearly not OK with this and had issues with the jealousy though he allowed his wife/girlfriend to come to her own conclusion. That was what was particularly uncomfortable within that episode and didn't really accurately depict the average cam model. While many cam models have more liberal views of polyamory etc than the general population, I wouldn't be surprised if most still comply with conventional relationship norms. I guess part of the good thing about having documentaries is to show a more accurate and realistic portrayal of sex work without the drama and sensationalism, which I didn't feel this series did justice to.

The most realistic portrayal of a cam-model I have seen on TV/ movies was in one not about camgirls: It was on a relationship break up.

Idk maybe life is different where you live but I didn't hear any realistic millennial dialogue in this movie (teenage cocktail) this is not at all how the people around me interact or talk to each other and the whole thing seemed completely unbelievable.

(I'm young enough that I am still friends with and surrounded by teenagers most of the time)

I saw the movie too sometime last year, way before the idea of camming myself came up to me. I would need to watch it again, but definitely I don't feel it's super representative of real life. Like they could go away with doing it despite being underage. Also they made a lot of money quite fast and easily without showing their faces and doing anything really sexual (from what I remember anyway).

Both characters could have been really lovable if they hadn't decided to blackmail the guy. Like why would you do something so stupid :/

I still think it was an interesting movie and I would be curious to know what non-cam people thought about the concept of camming for money.
