What are some of the threats to the environment in camming in particular, and some ways you can protect it?

Example: Many models use Whiteboard Markers.
To recycle your whiteboard markers, remove the end plug and pull out the ink tube (what is known in the industry as a ‘tampon’) and the writing tip. Dispose of these things by throwing them in the bin – they aren’t recyclable at all. Put the barrel, cap and end plug of your whiteboard pen into your general recycling.

Use coconut oil instead of synthetic lube? I'm not sure if this counts, but it makes me feel healthier plus it's coming from a plant instead of chemicals so...

Seriously, though, with the price of oil going down as it is now, The Environment is gonna take a beating no matter what you stick in your recycling bin.

@ Felicity: Just note that coconut oil doesn't play well with latex condoms, nor, conversely, does it play well with sperm, in case you're going the other way.

Plastic Packaging of all kinds, the lower the number, the more recyclable it is. (1-6 label in the little triangle with arrows)

Agree.
We must also be cautious about industries such as the Palm Oil industry. Yes it is biodegradable, and can be sustainable but also as an industry extremely destructive (It is usually grown in degraded soils, especially after rainforest has been cleared. Therefore not something we want to encourage). What happened with the palm oil industry we risk with other natural oils.

Internet use, Lighting, computers, heating/ cooling .... the big one for all cammers is energy usage.

Those in front of the camera should use low energy lighting (Low heat output, low power usage).

Cooling/ heating efficiently is critical too.

I like the thread. I like anything that heightens awareness of the environmental concerns us 7G+ ppl now face. And, I like the idea above. It's easy/fast, less poly/plastics goes to the landfill, and it should make you feel good - it is something.

I feel that a lot of ppl maybe don't do little things like this, b/c "what difference is it going to make." That attitude is not surprising for many reasons. Two significant reasons IMO, are 1; b/c it is such a huge bucket & such a tiny drop - it naturally feels insignificant, and 2; b/c about half the time you hear someone speaking about the sort of change that needs to take place, they inject somewhere the phrase, "this is going to take more than ppl just changing out their light bulbs for more efficient ones." Or some similar such phrase. I think the strategy behind that must be to impress upon ppl, that this thing is going to take some real sacrifice, (and it is), so think big. But, I think it may do more harm than good. I think it is just as likely to reinforce the feeling that, "nothing I can do will make any difference", as it is to motivate ppl.

It is very important to make ppl feel good about doing the smallest of things, b/c the biggest problem right now is the lack of movement. Yes IMO we are going to need a huge snow ball, but that has to start by getting the snowflakes together and moving downhill/in the right direction. We need a global movement - and that has to start with movement, not apathy!

On recycling, anything that we can keep out of the trash stream, especially plastics, is great. What is much better than Recycling, is Reuse. A lot of the stuff we all buy, and then trash the empty remains of, can be reused, and often at less cost than buying another piece of trash filled with the stuff.
Example: Both myself & SO smoke weed, (health reasons naturally), and she smokes tobacco as well. Lighters are expensive and mountains of them go into the trash. I reuse them and have had to buy 2 in the last 11 months. I have used one 300ML/10.14 OZ can of bulk butane in that time. Just had to buy the second last week @<$3.00

I found a DIY refill/reuse dry-erase marker link at E How To,
http://www.ehow.com/how_7226205_make-dr ... rkers.html
It may be more than anyone has the time for on this Reuse, but you can create your own custom colors, which would be cool.

Turning things around, and finding our way in harmony with the environment is going to take effort from everyone, but don't feel the smallest of effort in of no count. it's analogous perhaps to one of those few times when it seemed like a token goal was impossible, but everyone pitched in and wow it happened.

Thanks for the thread Sir Troll, and the soap box for me to preach upon.

I agree fully on reusing if you can, even better is not using/ only using what you need.

On refills for dry erase markers, I would not recommend this unless you were experimenting with colours (reasons below), but it is a good addition here, thanks Camstory.
On quality grounds you may make a bad marker (i.e permanent marker, one that writes badly).
On safety grounds, the chemicals are teratogenic (unsafe to use for pregnant women) and releases VOC's (volatile organic compounds), you should protect yourself from environmental indoor pollution. Storage of chemicals is another issue.
On environmental grounds, you may waste more chemical making the marker than in buying a new one (it is only a few millilitres of chemical used).

Make sure with anything that you own to protect it from damage. Read the instructions on care and use carefully. Buy for quality and only the things you love most.

Example: Lubricants and toy use.
Some lubricants will damage your toys. Not only is this dangerous to your health (degrades the surface, and allows bacteria to grow), but ruins the toy. Keep in mind simple rules of chemistry, like disolves like. In the case of toys, no silicon lubricants on silicon toys.

Additionally: Sometimes sellers (I know lovehoney has done anyway) offer recycling of toys. If you get the chance to replace them responsibly, it is worth taking.

Not directly related to camming threats to the environment (as every girl has it either way) but using reusable "period catchers" (is there a term for this?) like silicone cups, soft cups, sponges, reusable rags (for those that dont like stuff up their j), makes a lot of difference, not only to the environment, but on your wallet aswell.

Also machines for hair removal. And tiny towels for makeup removal and face care instead of cotton or baby wipes.

Edit: oh and natural hair dyes and products. i dont know the science on this one but hey, if it goes down the drain.

Wow, I did not know there were ways to keep things like napkins/pads/tampons out of the trash stream. did not know there was an alternative. (pretty dumb of me  ) And, "period catchers" made me laugh b/c I pictured a combination dream catcher/period catcher hanging in the window.

Off topic, but I take every chance to tell this story, it's humorous, and "period catchers" is a good enough lead in.

I was in a models room while she worked to get undressed, and the count was coming down pretty well. I think the model said something like, 'all these tips have really got me wet' At that point she had only her panties to remove, and someone posted one of those comments in chat that always makes me cringe, "I wish I was your panties right now." I pulled up the tip window and in a private tip note said, " I don't want to be your panties, I wish I was your feminine product b/c they have wings, and I've always wanted to fly!"

A snorting belly laugh from a beautiful nearly naked lady is about the best thing in the world. The fact that it reset the mood for a minute was to be expected.

The term for the general category of products is just the technical 'menstrual cups.'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menstrual_cup

Ah yes indeed, though I was looking for an even more general term that encompasses all objects that can be used for that. Rags for example wouldn't count as menstrual cups.

I had always thought a menstrual cup was the large wine goblets used by musical lyricist who preformed for nobility in medieval time. OK bad joke!!!
Posted to ask Sir Troll if I might make a post here that is off topic as stated in the OP, but is how I have come to think about our environment, and why I believe there is reason to act with some urgency not clearly indicated by current conditions? (the thread title works well for a general discussion of the environment, but the OP was more specific than that.)
