I realized yesterday, while in one of model friend's room, I easily zone out or shift focus after just a few minutes of conversation online. I thought about it some more this morning, and I realized I just don't have as many conversational topics that grab me. When I heard the conversation shift to old school video games, I jump in the fray immediately to profess my love for Sonic games. This leads me to my question. What topics of conversation grab you and keep you locked in, when you're talking to friends and/or family.

For me, the following topics are what I can talk about with certain people for an extended period of time.
1. Video Games
2. Programming
3. CW TV Shows
4. 90s Television
5. Post-1998 Wrestling
6. Cam Models
7. Christian Music
8. Puzzles (Sudoku, Kakuro, Mahjong, etc.)
9. Walking/Biking Around

It's really easy to keep my attention.
The only things that make me zone out/lose interest are computer/technology talk, ESPECIALLY anything about coding, comic books & cartoons. 0 interest in those things.

My favorites though
-Nuclear disasters, especially Chernobyl.
-Cooking/health/nutrition/fitness
-DIY/ home improvement type stuff/gardening
-Movies/tv
-Crafts/art
-Music
-Comedy
-Homesteading

I'm a nerd.

Etymology is #1 by 1000000000000%
linguistics
anthropology
urban legends
astronomy
The Simpsons
old country music
Scandinavia
Texas
Roadways
Cooking
Psychology

and related things.

I'm pretty attentive no matter the converstion...usually, but I am a super geek, so my favorite topics that keep me engaged are:

  • -SciFi/Fantasy stuff:
    Star Wars
    Star Trek
    Tolkien
    "The Whedon-verse"
    Comic books
    "Geeky" TV shows/movies

-Collectible stuff (Like on "Toy Hunter")
    -80's & 90's stuff
-Music in general (I do love a good "Guitar convo")
-Video Games (even though I suck, I like to try to engage in game conversations)
    -Art/Creative stuff
-And I'm a total history buff, love talking about that

I guess I just love "Pop Culture"

I know I forgotten a few things

Some of mine:

-horror movies
-serial killers
-outer space
-Disney
-books
-Rocky Horror
-languages

A lot of echoing of what others have said, but...

Music - Classic rock, hip hop, blues, indie, funk, soul, electronica, rock, pop, post-punk, folk... I always like hearing about music I haven't heard yet from people with similar tastes, and I love making recommendations based on what other people like

Guitars - Gear, software, learning materials, live performance...

Films/TV - Netflix recommendations, random old films, recent cinema trips, current TV shows worth watching...

Weird Shit - Existential discussions, philosophical musings, UFO sightings, ghost stories (I'm not necessarily a believer, but I like talking about unexplainable stuff all the same)

Computer Games - Be it current gen stuff (or PS3/360 for me) or retro gaming...

Football - American or regular (particularly regular; domestic or international)

Cultural Stuff - If the model/room is something other than English, it's always cool to discuss cultural differences, hear about other cultures and discuss my own

Nostalgia - Anything to do with 80s and 90s pop culture will usually engage me

Food - I like food, yo

Wrestling - I should probably have grown out of this by now but I do still watch professional wrestling (I'm watching it right now in fact) and am generaly happy to talk about it

I can't believe I forgot to mention horror movies. When that topic came up in Amber's room, I was all over it. I feel ashamed. :hide

My attention span is terrible. Except for the first, I tend to only be able to hold a conversation for maybe 5 minutes. :? I'd much rather do something with you than to talk. Please, for the love of God, don't make me hold a conversation.

1. Situational replay (gossip)
2. Savings
3. Cosmetics, specifically nail polish

1. Skyrim
2. Catan
3. Cam girls
4. Books (sci fi, fantasy... just books)
5. Sharks (all animals but mostly sharks)
6. Art/Photography
7. Foooood
8. Muuuusiiicccc

It's really easy to keep my attention I can think of so many more things to add to this list.
Must remember to talk more about random shit in my room instead of just dancing around.
But dancing and stuff.

Video games - but they have to be ones I actually know something about or I don't feel I can follow/contribute to a conversation
Porn - likes and dislikes and jokes about the silly stuff
Dogs - preferably about the odd shit they do, funny things
Nail polish
My job - it's fun to rant about the annoying stuff, and bask in the happiness of the perks of it.
Movies - more specifically I like talking about scary movies, even though I'm a total pansy and can't watch them very well
Nostalgia - it's fun to reminisce about our past, but this is more enjoyable to do with people born around the same time as me
Food or drink - it's pretty easy and natural to discuss this since everyone eats and drinks every single day. I can't carry on convo with someone who is a professional chef or very picky cook though. Sometimes they can get too pretentious about food and it's discouraging.

The most important factor in a conversation that I can get involved in is knowledge. If I don't know anything about a subject, I get really shy and lack the confidence to get in the mix.

Poker (duh lol),
serial killers,
conspiracies,
history (especially British monarchy Tudor period, Slavery, American Revolution, and WWII),
criminal, family, and civil law,
music,
horror and science fiction,
politics,
and religion.

- The English language :geek: especially:
-- sociolinguistics
-- different accents/vernaculars within the English language
-- cultural differences within the English speaking world
- BDSM; not necessarily dirty talk, but BDSM psychology and dynamics
- clothes and make-up
- movies, especially indie
- early/mid 2000s nostalgia
- lingerie
- food
- atheism
- TV shows I've watched

things i always love talking about:

-marvel comics
-batman villains
-stand up comedians
-pokemon
-cartoons
-videogames
-cats
-weed
-female musicians
-sexuality + fetishes
:-D

I could go on for days about Harry Potter, specifically the differences between the books and movies.

Other things that hold my attention...
Food
Fantasy
Owls
TV shows
Sex
Music

Really I'm an easy person to please conversation wise, as long as you don't get into technical stuff or politics.

Oh there are loads of other topics that I enjoy talking about, but those three are my huge ones right now. I was just too lazy to think of them all.

Once again, no particular order

-Literature
-Writing
-Fantasy
-Fashion
-Food
-Kitties and other cute animals
-Aliens and UFOs
-The occult
-Sex and Fetishes
-Psychology
-Science (especially astronomy and paleontology)
-That said, Dinosaurs
-Astrology
-Tolkien
-Game of Thrones
-Nutrition
-Stupid people and the things they do and say

And a lot of other things, I get really interested and really bored with conversations very quickly

I know a little about a lot... a lot of useless information rolling around in my head, and can contribute a little to a various topics

but the things that make me sit up a pay attention are
comics, specifically Marvel before all the reboots and retcons
fantasy/sci fi books
tv/movies (primarily sci fi stuff)
movies/tv adapted from books :p
history (i can usually bs my way through certain areas if I'm a little fuzzy on them)
music
games
D&D (this never comes up in cam rooms :( )
mythology (particularly Norse)

1. Situational replay

My new favorite term. XD
Hey, I can't be everywhere at once, and neither can my mom. We have to keep each other informed somehow. We don't get yelled at when we replay the day's events to each other.....versus if we're just straight up gossiping, we tend to get yelled at.
