I saw this really cool news story just the other day about a CEO who cut his salary to 70k a year so that he could make his company's minimum pay 70k a year. This is of course not the norm, but it's a great example of a guy who felt the urge to share the wealth with his employees. I know that if I ever made more than 100,000 a year I would probably have no clue what to do with myself and most of that money would sit somewhere turning into more money that I have no real need for, so I totally get why this guy did this. It feels nice to share.

This is also generation difference that your parents and I didn't have to deal with when we had min wage jobs. Managers when were working made up the schedule by hand. So Steph worked 4-8 PM M-Th and 8-4 PM on Saturday, and so this weeks schedule was the same as last week schedule, except for when Joe was on vacation and he need to make some change.

That first way is how we did things at my store when I did phone sales for Sprint. (feel free to ask me anything about them if you want btw). My manager (or me, when 2 quit) made the schedule by hand to make sure we all got 2 days off when we needed and had coverage at all times.

Now days sophisticated computer program will say sales are down 20% after 6 PM on Weds so Steph needs to come in on 2-6 on Wed. Except when Wed is the 15th of the month (pay day) than Steph needs to work 2-8 PM. But Saturdays afternoons are dead when the local college football team is playing an away game, so on those days we only need her from 8-12am. Good fucking luck trying to juggle a second job in this universe.

I've yet to experience this, but I bet this is really how most things go now. It all about making every buck and every second matter. Never mind your petty commitments and livelihoods, its all about the bottom line!

Its no wonder why independent contractor jobs (like camming) and trying to be a blogger/youtuber are sought after jobs. Why settle with working around the schedules of others when you can make your own?
