For me, it is nice to be welcomed as a returning visitor, in the same way that I enjoy being known by name at my local coffee shop, and my order being remembered.
That's one of the tricks of sales and hospitality, forming a link with the customer, making them feel welcomed and remembering what they like. More likely to return to a welcoming environment.
The username 'notes' feature on CB is a really useful way of remembering someone's name, location, likes etc. and I'm appreciative when it is used.
I do wonder though if some don't enjoy being greeted because it acknowledges their presence in the room but they may have intended to lurk and not contribute.
I use this in a similar way, it does mean sitting at the screen and I sometimes explain this to guys in the room. Some think it's a great idea, some express concern. A couple of regulars closed their account, then opened another with same username - their notes and spending history were not on the new account. This threw me a little but I verified it is them.

“Hi bb, show puss”, like wow, how kind of you to greet and think I’m a robot. Would you like the crust cut off your sandwich too? Tell me bb.

But I troll the fuck out guys too that are rude, impolite and lack common courtesy.

I'm a smartass with a smile. When a dude comes in my room and just blurts out "Skype?" (9 times out of 10 it's someone with 0 tokens, expecting you to log off MFC to give them a ridiculously cheap Skype show that they wanna pay for via PayPal...NOPE), I smile and loudly say "HI, RICHIERICH69! HOW'S IT GOIN?" :p Then they just leave the room. 😂

for those of you who feel weird being greeted:

Do you feel the same way about a general "Hello everyone" or unaddressed greeting?

I usually feel obligated to say SOMETHING just so people know I'm not ignoring the chat

I feel like we just can't win. Lol. There are members on the forum who, in a previous thread, said that they do expect models to greet them when they're in the room (See, this is what I like to do). And there are members who've said that it will cause them to leave the room if the model greets him by name. But the thing is that with how quickly members go in and out of rooms, we'll be saying "Hey, Jeff!" or "Hey, everyone!" an awful lot. But if we don't say anything at all (Wait for them to type first), you have those members that are all "Wow, I've been sitting in her room for 5 minutes, and she never once greeted me." 🙄 Lol. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

At one point I had some friendly "Hi!" automated message to greet people who enter the room on Stripchat (Not sure if I still have it enabled), because I just don't know wtf to do anymore. Haha. I really do not like the idea of not greeting people. It's called a chatroom for a reason.

I've always been curious about this too. I usually just say hi guys, as a collective, unless someone has a really interesting name. One of the things I find really interesting on cam is how people choose their names and what they mean. Sometimes it's obvious. MikeDDD, I know what you're looking for. Other times it's not, so it's fun to guess.

i see some models have a bot like this on CB, where it will literally greet every member that comes in chat, but it shows for ALL users, so then you see a chat full of "welcome name" and "welcome name 2", etc

IMO I'd prefer to be greeted by default, but it can feel a little unusual when entering a new room. I'll typically know within seconds if I'm going to move on again, but it can seem rude if the model greets you just as you leave. As a returning viewer, it's nice to be greeted, because if I'm returning, I'm going to be spending time and tokens there. Even nicer if the model remembers your real name.

It depends. If I am a returning visitor, then yes it's nice to be greeted, although if I am returning, I will most likely greet first, because I "know" the model. If it is a first time visit I do not expect to be greeted unless I tip or comment. but if I am greeted, it would not bother me.

it's nice when sites present an icebreaker. streamate had "ask me about my show" in the chat bar. as annoying as it is to be constantly asked that same question over and over, it helps get the conversation going. it would be cool if they let us edit in our own.

This doesn't make me feel weird at all. It's opening the chat up to everyone and not calling out a specific person.

I don't like being called out because I don't like that kind of attention. Several years ago when I lived elsewhere, there was a cute brewery that I would go to every Saturday. After going a few times, they began to greet me by name as I walked in the door. I didn't like this because suddenly all attention is on me and attention makes me feel weird (I chose a strange profession, I know 😅 ) Anyway, they picked up on this and stopped doing it. They still did it with some other regs and those guys leaned into and seemed to love it, but that's just not me. If people want to greet me while I'm sitting at the bar and about to order something, that's fine, and I liken that to greeting someone in a chat room who has already said hello.

I did a poll awhile back that may be of interest:

There is a similar thread on this topic from a few years back... https://www.ambercutie.com/forums/threads/greeting-members-yay-or-nay.20643/

There are many different types of guys who visit cam rooms. There are some who are very happy to be noticed and greeted when they enter a room and others who like to hide in the background and feel invisible. Some guys are confident and outgoing... others can be socially awkward and anxious in new environments. I think when this topic came up in the past I suggested that throwing out a "Hi guys... how is everyone tonight?" (or similar) greeting to the room as a whole group lets everyone feel included in the experience. It also allows the quiet guys to adjust in their own time, without them feeling weird about being picked out by name.

Personally, I don't mind either way, as I usually tip with a short greeting in a tip note when I join a room. It's a good thing.

Mine just shows for the user because I hate that shit too.

I'll look at my user list sometimes to creep on who is there but if you want to get noticed by senpai, you have to at least speak to me first.

Thank you for reminding me to add skype to my banned worsts list lol

When I go into my favorite rooms I greet everyone of course, sometimes I greet other users directly if I get along well with them otherwise I try to catch the mood in the room and try to improve it.

if I go into a new room I first look at how the mood is or read through the bio, then I greet.
Very often it happens then that I get spammed by a model. Some models insist on tipping or going to pvt with them right away after I just joined

Which in turn makes me feel very uncomfortable and I then prefer to leave the room.

Personally I would do it like in normal life and just give a short greeting.
A simple Hi in the round is usually enough in my opinion or a "Hey, take a look at my bio".

but in the end everyone is different, some like it and some don't

See this kind of bot I am more than fine with, the one that just says "Welcome [my name]" and it only displays for me in the chat. But the bots that show welcome [name] to every user that enters, is too much

dont forget the bot/app who said thanks when someone follows and the 1000 lines tipmenu that popup every 30 seconds

I think that's different from the bot I was referring to in a previous post. On Stripchat it's called the Welcome Bot. This is the description, and SC's screenshot example of what it looks like:

I find this thread super interesting because for me personally greeting every single person makes me the most money. It actually makes a huge difference honestly. I’m on SM which is a private based site, there is a tip menu (they’ve given us a set list of items to choose from) but it’s not like MFC or CB in my opinion. On MFC at any given time I’d have a topic with 15 things to tip for, bots sending out messages for Snapchat deals, video deals, KIK, OF, fan clubs etc there was so much going on and so many things for people to engage with I would just let guys hangout for a few minutes and they’d make themselves known and greet first. Also charged for PM and to be added as a friend, I found a lot of guys would come in and immediately tip for that so we could have a more private conversation. I also found a lot of guys would “ninja” tip or add a note only I could see in which case I wouldn’t read it out loud, and quickly was able to figure out who enjoyed being greeted and thanked publicly and who didn’t. SM prohibits all outside communication, there is no option for clubs, PM friend adds, snap etc etc. I also give way better prices on videos when I’m live than if you were to scroll down and silently buy a video. In my eyes if you’re in my room, and the only options here are to take me private/exclusive or to participate in a gold show which is usually a very cheap buy in I’m going to greet you. Unless you ask me not to then going forward I’ll respect it.

I’ve noticed this before I left SM years ago and feel it’s what works for me now being back for a few months. When I don’t greet, 6/10 times they just lurk forever, don’t tip and wait for free boobs or something or take me for exclusive without asking me anything at all so I’m not sure what they’re expecting and then they either get mad I don’t offer what they want, charge for c2c or continue to be silent and then just leave 2 minutes later after I’ve taken off my intricate outfit to make 5$ lol 🤦🏼‍♀️ The second I say their name they know I’m paying attention and in my experience this drastically changes things I would even go as far to say 9/10 will respond, will engage, and we build from there. I always say hi with a big smile, and bubbly energy and I get complimented on it multiple times a day so I continue. If they don’t want any interaction with me, and were just here in hopes of a free nipple they leave when I start calling them out by name and that’s exactly what I want lol.

Now if I notice I have a random large wave all at once I’ll just turn on a gold show, I usually do $5 buy ins, my private rate is $15 for 1 minute so you get a 7 minute show for roughly the price of 20 seconds. In that case, if you’re in my room for more than 5 minutes and aren’t interested there are TONS of beautiful girls on the site, and I feel they should move on to someone who is their cup of tea as I’m clearly not.

Gees I didn’t realize how much I typed oops lol! 😅 all in all, I say hi to everyone, it makes a big difference in my earnings when I don’t and at the end of the day not to offend anyone and I do genuinely enjoy most of my guys (and girls!) it’s our job, to be engaging and we’re obviously online to earn a paycheck and guys are there to have friendly, fun and sexual experiences with one of us so whatever works best for each model I think they should go with that and if you would prefer to not be engaged with I would question why you’ve come to a cam site rather than a regular old porn site, or view the room logged out of any account. I would totally understand if I was loudly stating your real first and last name but “Hey DaddyBigCock778” doesn’t really give you away to anyone 😂 🤷🏼‍♀️

My thoughts EXACTLY. I've expressed this so many times. You can watch me while logged out, if you're that dead set against interacting with me (in a CHAT ROOM) in any way. And I'm not buying it for a second that guys with names like PussyKiller69 are leaving the room because they're shy. :giggle:

I always try to greet everyone entering my room on SM. I do see that some will immediately leave after I greet them and have read before that some members don’t like being greeted.

This is where I am torn.

If I say hi to memberxxx becuase he is a repeat customer and I didn’t greet memberyyy when he entered becuase he is new, wouldn’t memberyyy feel neglected and leave?

I like to be greeted. In fact, if I enter a room with less than 20 users and am ignored, I will often leave after a few minutes. It is boring and there are plenty of other rooms.

I use SC so maybe the vibe is different, but as new visitor to a room, if the model greets someone who is obviously a regular, than I assume she is friendly thoughtful person. And maybe she's someone I want to spend time interacting with.

The only time I would be "upset/miffed" is if I greeted her and she ignored my greeting (providing she was not busy of course! Busy I understand)

Theoretically, how would y'all feel if a model farted when you entered the room? Then just said "Hi" (without naming you individually)?

Well, it would be unique (in my experience anyway)

But in case you were being serious 😉 , it would not appeal to me at all. But then, even as a child, I have NEVER found farting amusing or entertaining 🤷‍♂️

But what if it wasn't a real fart. What if the fart sound came from another place, like a hidden fart box or something? And I just tried to pass it off as a real one?

ETA; And then later you figured that out. Would you come back/ reconsider? ( 😆 )

I know Chaturbate encourages you to greet all users that come to your room, especially coloured names, and this is literally as soon as they enter the room.
Now personally, I don't always like being greeted and it can be for different reasons.

So, I am curious for members: do you prefer when a model says "hello [name]" to you specifically, whether it's them typing it or speaking it?
Do you prefer only specific models doing It (ones you are a big regular for, for example)?

Models, what is your take on this? What do you find overall? What do you prefer as a model to do with guys? Do you always try to say welcome to them and mention names, or is it only regulars/tippers you do it to, or how is it from your point of view?
I assume it would vary as well based on the platform? Do other platforms say "user has entered the room" and "user has left the room" on other platforms? It does for CB, and it even shows it for moderators (why? I have no idea).
Noooo, do not greet me unless i greet you. If i want to stay i'll say hi
