She has great eyebrows.

EDIT: Oh my god, skipping through and stopped at 4:19, creepy. Put it back! Alright I'm done.

I'm astounded by the progress, and the fact that they're already marketing them and taking orders. And that price point is surprising, given that non-robotic silicone dolls can cost that much. The Uncanny Valley is going to be a hard obstacle to cross. I'm into this stuff, and even I don't know if I'd want an animatronic head with loud servos motion tracking me and calling me "My sweet Zippy" in a synth voice, when I know that their intent is to make this as organic-seeming as possible. I always end up wondering whether it would be better if the robot-ness of this sort of thing was actually played up, like if she looked like a sexy Sorayama robot or something.

I do like strong eyebrows. Cold war thinking? No overplucked Soviet will invade my homeland!

Wouldn't it be unexpected if the uncanny valley was solved in meatspace before video? Anyone done that book? (Michael Crichton doesn't count, he was writing about animatronics) If not - well shoot, there I go giving away ideas.

Though maybe Michael's living with Elvis and Romanians are prototypes.

I love how far sex robots have come! It's so interesting.

I do not love that huge vocal "women are going to be replaced har har har" crowd that follows them around the internet.

I would never get a sex robot. I like my simple magic wand. I don't even think that VR porn will catch on for me. I still read porn. I don't think my SO would get one either. He's really into impregnation and lovey dovey shit. He also doesn't care about the latest and greatest tech. I think this will be a great toy for some and a great companion to others, but I can't even have dolls on display in my house without getting creeped the fuck out.

This sounds like a plot for DR who. Men buy robot women to replace women. Women buy robot men to replace men. Only the DR can save them from them selves.

The whole "androids so lifelike they're indistinguishable from humans" trope is pretty common. Hell, it's the premise for tons of cyberpunk, like Blade Runner, for example.

I'll be honest, the thought that bots are among us has crossed my mind a lot, and more and more lately. The Uncanny Valley sensation hits me often, especially when I see pictures of models. Even with video, digital media blurs the lines of reality with such ease these days, it's hard to tell what's artifice and what's genuine. I saw a few photos just yesterday, where I had to actively convince myself they featured flesh and blood people, and not dolls. There's just so much hyperreality mixed into our media experience these days.

As I type this out, I realize I might be losing my mind. At any rate...

I, for one, welcome our new sexy robot overlords.
