What do you tell your parents you do?

On my first show, my mum called me twice. I need something I can tell her I'm doing with my day so she knows not to call (unemployed and just graduated so I can't even use work/studying as an excuse). Also, if I start to make enough money, I need a job that's parent friendly to say I'm doing.

And I was wondering what kinds of things you all say to your families?

I've thought of saying it's an online tutoring thing.

Some girls tell their parents they're driving for taxi service so their parents can't try to pop in on them, but they can explain their flexible work schedules and influx of cash. But I know some people are too geographically close to their parents or don't drive or have a new enough car to drive for uber or lyft and that traditional taxis are kinda outdated in the usa. Multiple people have told me they use this one.

Photo/video editing, website design, transcribing, customer service rep, or even a personal assistant are all logical jobs that don't have set hours and you can do them from home.

My sister told my parents I play video games for a living. Then my dad asked if his girlfriend, who doesn't even play them, could do it. If I could teach her. I told her you have to be funny and interesting. .-.

I wouldn't suggest that though, because then people want deets.

I'd be careful with things like photo/video editing, web design, or anything where you might be asked to show examples if you're not actually doing those things outside of camming though

Sorry, Id love to show you but I signed a non disclosure.

I told my mom I'm doing social media marketing and video editing. It's not 100% a lie, because I do both of those things for myself.

just be ready if they find out what you really do.

If I could go back in time, I would have said to my Dad - “I have a job from my home, alone, that is kind of weird and I have a feeling you would prefer not to know exactly what it is. But FYI, I have a job.”

For two years I gave him vague obvious lies and answers about what I do and it made our relationship strained and strange. Once I told him what I did, he was ok with it, and our relationship actually became less awkward now that I’m not acting sketchy when questions arise about my life. I know now, in my case, it’s better to be honest - you don’t have to actually tell them, you just don’t have to lie.

Anyways - this isn’t what you asked so examples ... I’ve said ; I write articles. I do internet marketing. I’m starting a business.

I told my family. I would rather it come from me then them finding me and or having someone say "hey look what I found"...I honestly knew they would find out and most everyone's will so just be prepared for that. I am a lifer and do not care what people think or say about my job. I obviously am successful I have been doing it full time 6 years now so unless someone can pay me what I make I take 0 opinions.

As of right now I tell them I do website review/video editing type stuff, which isn’t a lie because I do it on the side, but it doesn’t bring in much money at all. This is only so they know not to bother me at certain times. If the situation ever arises where I need to tell them or they find out, I’ll be honest. I’m an adult and love on my own and pay my own bills, so regardless of how they feel about it they really have no say.
I just feel like to come out and be open would be unnecessary drama in the beginning.

Love this thread, love the replies. You people are awesome. I used to hide it from everyone and felt awkward, spooked, and reeallly ashamed. Now all my friends know (and help me), my mom, her fiance, my sister, my sister's partner.. etc. My dad and his side of the family don't know atm that I'm aware of but I am going to a family reunion this month where I'm sure it will come up. I tell acquaintances if I feel comfortable with them, but anyone could know. I have no state/city blocked or anything. Going for the top. Fueling my dreams. No shame.

Im a little different, and im going to overshare here... Im on disability for mental health issues, so my family doesnt inquire but im incredibly happy to find something that can help my family get off disability... i worry my teenage brothers will stumble across me or a friend and then im going to say "I love camming, it makes me feel good, and it helps me actually support my family...if you dont like it, suck some balls...make sure to record it"

I wish I could tell my dad "hey look at me im working"...I know he was very disappointed in me when I made the choice to ask for financial assistance.

I just just JUST told the government I no longer need their disability benefits help anymore since jumping back into camming a couple months ago. Right on. But we pay into social security, we deserve it when we need it. No shame on that either. Anything anyone has to say other than "good for you for doing what you need to do to take care of you and yours", matters.

At first, I just told them I was a live streamer and didn't disclose what kind, I'd say I played games with people and just talked, which was technically true. But I think they got suspicious and my dad became convinced I was doing some kind of dangerous sex work, so I finally was just upfront with them. I didn't give them the dirty details but explained that I was safe. At first, they were a little taken aback, but after they saw my income they were proud of me :haha: They are interested in my work but they are kinda in a "but we don't want to hear about the dirty details" state, which is fine since I'd rather not share the weird things I do with my parents.

I figured they would eventually find out anyway, and I'd rather them hear it from me instead of getting the shock from someone else.

No shame girl, I was on SSDI for a long time due to extreme health issues :h: I'm so thankful for camming because it's put me in a much more comfortable place financially than when I was relying on SSDI and allows me to have a flexible schedule so I'm not forced to work on my bad days. My parents are so happy I found something that works for me. It also makes me feel better knowing I have more control over my life.

I didn't tell my parents for a week. Then my mom, (being a typical mom of course) was getting concerned with what I was doing with my time. So I finally told her and she really didn't care, "As long as you're happy" is what she told me. Of course she did wind up telling my dad (against my wishes) and he was (and still is thankfully) pretty confused as to what I do exactly. I used to model though so it's not that different I suppose. My partner's parents still don't know and I don't really ever plan on telling them (they are incredibly judgmental of adult industry workers).

Sorry, Id love to show you but I signed a non disclosure.

Just wanted to say this is EXACTLY what I say. I tell my roommates parents I do a bunch of different things (video game beta testing, product surveys, social media modeling, graphic design, and writing and drawing commissions. For most of these I say I have a non-disclosure, if they pry too far into the writing or drawing thing I plan to tell them it's "adult stuff" which is why I won't show them anything. The one that I'm leaning away from is social media modeling, which I'm changing to sort of stock photo modeling, where I sell the image directly to the clients, meaning they have copyright and I cannot show them the pictures. So far it's all worked out. This way it explains why I have long periods of time where I don't want to be bothered (writing/drawing/playing video games) and also the fluctuating income (because all of these are demand based payment systems). I find the more items I list the more realistic it seems (because I'm pretending to be desperate to earn money) and the less they question each individual one. When they questioned my checks I told them a lot of the writing and graphic designs and modeling are through an agency I work with that connects me to potential companies who need my work. So far nothing has come under scrutiny and I've been saying I'm doing this for two years now, with us having dinner probably once a week.

I do photography in addition to everything else, so I just say that lol
I have also had office jobs, or cashier jobs, all while camming. so i've always had "real" jobs (for lack of a better terminology) while doing this.
easy cover up lol.

but honestly, I don;t really hide it per say, I just don;t bring it up more then anything, if that makes sense? no one really asks, but that is because like I said, i've always had "normal/real" jobs while doing my camming or content creator stuff on Patreon.

I am also currently on disability for mental health reasons. However, I was able to work part time off and on until I started having major physical health issues which made me unable to work standing for long periods of time. I am also a SAHM with a spouse with a crazy work schedule and two young kids with different school schedules. With the cost of daycare, limited schedule, and constant health crisis I found that camming is one of the few jobs I can do that is lucrative for the time I spend on it.

Now on the the main topic..I haven't told my parents more than I work on some type of late night internet customers service for an overseas company. They are older folks and are very conservative so they don't really ask too much further into it. Both have just discovered the internet for the first time so I don't worry about them finding out. I prefer not to tell them because my father again is very conservative/religious and was very disappointed when I went on SSDI. (However, I dissappointed him for a multitude of reasons)..

I happen to tell some of my close friends who I think can maturely handle the information. I don't mention it to too many people. However, I have a few friends who support the adult industry in some way and I am ok with them knowing. For instance, I have a friend who works at porn store which I frequent who gives me a great discount because he knows how much I buy.

I try to keep it private for the most part. Nobody asks much about it or really mentions it otherwise. I am not too concerned about my estranged family finding me. I also lie about where I am from heavily and I look like Danny Devito in real life so there is that... lol

Sorry for the wall of text.
