When you realise a great track from 1988 sounds like it was written yesterday...

Mighty guitar work from these guys and the lyrics are so relevant to these troubled times.

It makes a gloomy Monday come ALIVE!!!

Love Icehouse (nothing to do with drug dens, but a very cold apartment the singer lived in :)).
Many non-Aussies still recognise their better-known songs, including Great Southern Land, but this is one of my faves from the 80's:
(Edit to add: so many things from the 80's that I remember with nostalgia seem a bit, er, questionable now)

Kendrick's "Luther" has been on repeat for weeks. The production on GNX is just different from what I expected — way more low-key and I love it.

"Sultans Of Swing"

You get a shiver in the dark
It's raining in the park, but meantime
South of the river, you stop, and you hold everything
A band is blowing Dixie, double-four time
You feel alright when you hear the music ring

Well, now you step inside
But you don't see too many faces
Coming in out of the rain to hear the jazz go down
Competition in other places
Ah, but the horns, they're blowing that sound
Way on down south
Way on down south, London town

Check out guitar George
He knows all the chords
Mind, it's strictly rhythm
He doesn't wanna make it cry or sing
Yes and an old guitar is all he can afford
When he gets up under the lights to play his thing

And Harry doesn't mind if he doesn't make the scene
He's got a daytime job, he's doing alright
He can play the honky tonk like anything
Saving it up for Friday night
With the Sultans
With the Sultans of Swing
Yeah

And a crowd of young boys
They're fooling around in the corner
Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies
And their platform soles
They don't give a damn
About any trumpet-playing band
It ain't what they call "Rock and Roll"
And the Sultans
Yeah, the Sultans, they play Creole
Creole

And then the man, he steps right up to the microphone
And says at last, just as the time bell rings
"Goodnight, now it's time to go home"
Then he makes it fast with one more thing
"We are the Sultans—
We are the Sultans of Swing"

I listen to a lot of rock, metal, industrial.

But a pop song gets through every now and then.

I gotta say "Unholy" by Sam Smith is just a sexy ass song!

It makes me think about my naughty life as a straight male cammer!

Happy 420 yall!!!!! I'm finally logged out and about to partake yay! It was Shpongle playing for most of my stream, but the last hour I pulled out the doom! Smoke on to the way of the weed fellow hasheeshians.

So if you listen to the lyrics of this song closely, they are kind of sad. However, listening to it always has a paradoxical effect on me, and lifts my spirits SO much.

Ottis Redding - sitting on the dock of the bay

[Verse 1]
It's cold outside
And the paint's peeling off of my walls
There's a man outside
In a long coat, grey hat, smoking a cigarette
[Verse 2]
Now the light fades out
And I wonder what I'm doing in a room like this
There's a knock on the door
And just for a second, I thought I remembered you
[Interlude]
So now I'm alone
Now I can think for myself
About little deals and S.U's
And things that I just don't understand
Like a white lie that night
Or a sly touch at times
I don't think it meant anything to you
[Verse 3]
So I open the door
It's the 'friend' that I'd left in the hallway
"Please sit down"
A candlelit shadow on a wall near the bed
[Verse 4]
You know I hate to ask
But are 'friends' electric?
Only mine's broke down
And now I've no one to love
[Interlude]
So I find out your reason for the phone calls and smiles
And it hurts and I'm lonely
And I should never have tried
And I missed you tonight
So it's time to leave
You see, it meant everything to me
[Instrumental Outro]

[Intro]
To your soul
To your soul
Cry
Cry
Cry
[Verse 1]
You leave in the morning with everything you own in a little black case
Alone on a platform, the wind and the rain on a sad and lonely face
[Verse 2]
Mother will never understand why you had to leave
But the answers you seek will never be found at home
The love that you need will never be found at home
[Chorus]
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away (Oooh)
[Verse 3]
Pushed around and kicked around, always a lonely boy
You were the one that they'd talk about around town as they put you down
And as hard as they would try they'd hurt to make you cry
But you never cried to them, just to your soul
No, you never cried to them, just to your soul
[Chorus]
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
(Crying to your soul, crying to your soul)
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
(Crying to your soul, crying to your soul)
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away (Cry)
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
[Bridge]
Cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry
Cry, boy, cry, boy, cry
(Cry)
[Verse 4]
You leave in the morning with everything you own in a little black case
Alone on a platform, the wind and the rain on a sad and lonely face
[Chorus]
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away (Cry)
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away (Cry)
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
(To your soul, to your soul)
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away (Cry)
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away (Cry)
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away (To your soul)
Run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away
(To your soul)
