What Subscriptions Do You Buy?

I know everyone knows this already but just had a win on the ‘threatening to cancel’ trick for my UK Virgin TV and broadband package subscription…

They wanted to increase the monthly cost to £170 but after a chat online and threat of cancel they reduced it to £95, threw in Netflix for free and the price is capped for 2 years it pays to ‘quit’.

These days, everything is subscription-based, and I really mean everything seems to be.
So I am curious, what are some that you ALWAYS like to pay for, without a doubt?
Which ones do you WANT to buy but never (or rarely) do because you don't end up using them as much, or it doesn't have much good content (games, apps, tv shows, movies, etc) on.
And which ones do you REFUSE to buy - for whatever reason?


Netflix I get free with my phone contract (standard, no way am i upgrading to remove ads).
I had a 3-month trial for YouTube Premium and man, i really did love that, but it's something I won't pay for.
Spotify, I always pay for, that is ALWAYS a yes from me, unless it gets TOO high in price.

I had free Disney multiple times with my phone contracts (12 months each time) and they are not something I ever end up watching, so definitely no for me.
Amazon Prime is always fantastic, but again, I don't order enough stuff or watch enough things on there to feel the want or need to pay for premium. And I prefer Spotify to their music, so not worth it.

I do have a subscription for a clothes website, it's £10 for unlimited free next-day delivery, which lasts for 12 months, so it's a no-brainer - absolute bargain, and I do use that a lot.

I don't think there are any others I want, especially streaming services.
Oh, I did recently get Telegram premium but that was to stop scammers constantly harassing me - otherwise i never would have.

McDonald’s monopoly just won a month of Peacock 8 times haha I don’t know if it’s ad free. I use to pay for Hulu Netflix YouTube Spotify Apple Music and decided never again. I can watch reels and clips on X and TikTok and Don’t Miss any of them.

Almost all of my subscriptions are work related: hosting, adobe, VPN, anti-virus, etc.

I'm kind of old school when it comes to my personal life. All of my music is on CDs and movies on DVDs. I backup my CDs and DVDs and setup my own personal streaming service from home. I can't use it away from home, but that's okay. From time-to-time I'll renew a Hulu/Disney subscription for a show if I really want to see it. I have a few Patreon subscriptions though. Internet access of course. How boring!

Mostly dev tools and AI APIs honestly — occupational hazard. For entertainment I'm a YouTube Premium + Spotify person and somehow still end up watching most things on free ad-supported channels anyway. The subscription creep is real.

If your an HTPC kind of person.... you should setup your home library on a plex server. Then you can stream everywhere and share with friends.

Currently I’m paying for:
Spotify Premium (can’t live without music and podcasts without ads)
Amazon Prime (mostly for the fast shipping, but I do watch some stuff on Prime Video occasionally)
YouTube Premium (I caved in because I watch way too much YouTube and hate ads)
NordVPN (for privacy and accessing content from other countries)
A couple of Patreon creators (small ones, just to support their work)
I used to have Netflix and Disney+, but I realised I barely watched them, so I cancelled. Now I just borrow a friend’s login once in a while

Spotify is an absolute must-have for me as well—life without ad-free music is just impossible at this point! My 'ALWAYS pay' list is pretty practical: Spotify, extra cloud storage (Google One/iCloud) because losing data is my worst nightmare, and a reliable VPN for privacy. The ones I REFUSE to pay for are usually TV streaming services that split content across 10 different platforms—I'm not paying $15/month for just one show anymore. And any app that tries to charge a weekly sub for basic photo/video editing! Totally get you on Telegram Premium though, dealing with spam is exhausting

I just looked at my watch stats on Youtube, and I've racked up 12,300 hours of watch time in almost six years subscribed to Youtube Premium. That's 512.5 DAYS of watching Youtube. Literally nearly a quarter of the time I've been subscribed to Youtube Premium, I have been watching it. That is orders of magnitude more than the time I I've spent streaming on any other service. Actually, I suspect it's at least an order of magnitude more than I've spent streaming on all other services, combined. I honestly don't know why I subscribe to anything else.

I get fomo, but tbh I rarely spend more than 45 mins a week watching TV, so they are for everyone else in the house.
I'm paying for the delusion of really having my finger on the pulse of what's up in the world haha.

I did Pandora (music) for years, but then they changed their algorithm and UI, and I hated it. So dropped them.

Oh yeah and Wall Street Journal, so I can feel all fancy and businessy.
I would guess I have somewhere between 20 and 30 monthly subs. I mean I'm helping world economies here, right
