PMs + DMs are being merged in Messages

Messages.png

We want to let you know that a new unified Messages inbox is here. Your PMs and DMs are now in one place, so you don’t have to remember where a conversation started to find it again.

Here’s what’s new:
  • One inbox for PMs and DMs. Open your inbox from the Messages tab or the floating icon in the lower right corner.
  • In Session tab. When you’re live, Messages opens to In Session, which works like the old PM tab. It shows everyone who’s messaged you from your room during your stream. When your stream ends, In Session clears and the next one starts fresh.
  • Fewer interruptions during streams. Messages from people outside your room go to All and won’t pop up during your show.
  • Filters. You’ll be able to sort your messages by In Session, All, Unread, Tipped, Following, or Followers.
  • Built-in ChaturSafe. Spam and poaching attempts will be automatically filtered out of your inbox.
A few things to keep in mind:
  • Your DM history carries over into your new inbox, but your PM history will start fresh on the day of the rollout.
  • Your unread count might look a little different. PM and DM unreads now share one number. If you have more than 99 unread DMs, we’ll mark them as read so you don’t start with a wall of old notifications. Anything you’ve marked unread yourself is still marked unread.
  • Your messaging settings will not change. Anyone who can message you now will still be able to message you after the update.
This update lays the foundation for exciting new ways to earn, coming soon. We’re working on adding a paid messaging feature, giving you built-in options to charge per message or offer messaging access for a set period of time. You’ll also be able to sell content directly in your messages! Stay tuned for more information.

If you have any questions about this update, you can learn more on the Creator Portal or reach out to our support team. Let us know what you think!

I wish that we had the option to reset who is allowed to private message us.

During my first year camming, I sent way too many PMs to people who never ended up tipping me. They can still PM me to this day. Hundreds of them. 😩

As discussed in the 'Updates' thread here, I really don't like the merged messaging processes, and wish that it was possible to opt out of the changes, to give users the ability to retain use of PMs where that is their preference.

I personally like the way it looks and all, the operation of it feels clunky though. Like it's a different flow of clicks. lol I have no idea how to describe that. It would be nice for the users that have gotten used of this (or just me haha) to be able to go back to the messages list by clicking the message tab as well. Then you can't right click on users for a menu in it. You have to go to the main chat or the users tab. This stuff I kind of feel will just get ironed out over time anyways.

Feedback so far: besides the absolute hassle and horror of having to juggle between messages (let's be honest, the previous interface was more UI friendly).
Several users couldn't send pics because of this error: "You must be a supporter, fan club member, or moderator to send this message". The people in question tipped beforehand, so we're not talking free pics.

Few refreshes later, pics could be sent BUT on my end, it doesn't let me click on them on the first try to see what I'm...supposed to look at. Couple refreshes later, I can finally click on said pic and see it full sized.

Would be nice to go to the back interface while keeping the same rule, aka "Spam and poaching attempts will be automatically filtered out of your inbox."

It was initially unclear to me why the assumption was made that keeping the full history of all conversations is better than having some conversations that are permanent (DMs) and some that are transient (PMs). But I'm seeing glimpses where it does seem like a good thing to keep everything since sometimes seemingly innocuous things might end up being important later or circumstances might change where it's important to be able to pull from the history. So I'll get used to that.

A question: Why are the room chat tabs labelled CHAT (noun), MESSAGE (verb), and USERS (noun) instead of CHAT, MESSAGES (plural), and USERS (all nouns)? Is CHAT meant to be a verb as well, in which case why use "message" as the verb within that tab?

Actual critiques and suggestions:

1. I don't mind the "message app" style of showing the conversations, but it would be nice to have a compact version as well so that more of a conversation is visible at one time.

2. Restricting who can send images doesn't solve problems and actually takes options and tokens away from broadcasters. Many broadcasters will have the option for viewers to tip to rate a photo in PM which is not possible now. Instead of role-based restrictions, a consent-based system should be used, i.e., X can only send photos to Y if X asks Y for consent to do so and Y provides that consent, with the option for Y to revoke that consent at any time. This would solve the spam issues and reduce PM begging while still allowing for transactional photo exchanges and exchanges between people who know each other and want to exchange photos.

3a. As a viewer I don't like the experience of having to move outside the room I'm in to have just chat with people in that same room, i.e., moderators and fanclub members I know, if we initiate the conversation within the room.

3b. Maybe as a broadcaster it's ok to have the full list of people I've messaged be in the chat room tab, though I'll let actual broadcasters comment on this. But as a moderator, it's too much information to have the full list of people I've ever messaged with be in the chat room tab, but I do want to see all the people I have ongoing conversations with in that room in that stream there. And, when I'm moderating, I don't want to see messages from people outside the room in the room's chat tab when I'm just trying to focus on the room I'm in.

I think the previous PM/DM system had it right because it respected that WHERE you have a conversation matters and it respected and promoted the boundaries of individual streams.

I had (open conversation) appear in chat last night so I clicked it and all it did was show me a 25 token tip? So he tipped me through DM? Like what the heck is the point of that? Isn't that one of the perks of Supporter accunts (NOT changing that typo) -- to be able to tip anon? IDK this seems like too many cooks in the kitchen and a diminished product for it.

found a bug...
In the message tab next to the models name are 3 dots
if you click it a detail window pops up
that pop up closes again if a message comes in in normal chat.

if the chat is busy that can be very fast , so pop up open and almost immediately it closes again

I've done some testing of the new Messages features and today is the first time the "In Session" filter is appearing. This could make a very big difference.

Can all users -- especially moderators since the full list of DM recipients appears in the in-room tab for moderators -- also have this filter, please?

A session seems to be defined by when you start broadcasting and when you stop broadcasting, yet often there is the need to stop broadcasting temporarily -- e.g., to fix a technical issue -- but it's still part of the same livestream. I would recommend having a grace period after broadcasting ends and before the "In Session" filter is reset so that if broadcasting resumed quickly then nothing is lost.

It would also be really nice if the keyboard can be used to navigate the message list instead of just the mouse.

mm , one very irritating thing with the new system

sometimes you end up in the wrong room (can happen) and if you leave fast enough they could not send you a PM with " hi BB"
and even if they did it would be gone if if you leave

now i'm getting DM's sometimes even 5 minutes after i have been there.

Hi BB
why did you leave BB
hello darling
hello love

I feared this would happen. So that in effect completely wiped out the option to only see messages from people you follow?

Do you recall if that user was in your room when they tipped through DM?
I tried sending a tip that way while I was in a room, and the tip appeared in both the DM tab and in the public chat.
But sounds like there is no public notification if the user isn't in the room when they tip? and no tip noise either?

I don't remember seeing their name in the user list or an entry notification.

a funny side effect
if you're a moderator and you answer a message from an other model in the room where your are a moderator the model will see you in red
so she knows you're mod somewhere else

Yup, confirmed. That's a major privacy issue. It uses your implied colour for the context you're messaging from instead of the implied colour of your relationship to the person you're messaging.

Feedback from users in a room I know that has an excellent community: Previously there was a lot of behind-the-scenes chat going on in PMs, but now, because Messages are still controlled by the "Show My Cam to These Users" setting, many of the guys there can't message each other.

It would be really good to add a separate setting about who can message you, or remove the filter from Messages altogether.

As a model, I would greatly appreciate this. We should be able to filter who is allowed to message us. Like if they had an option where only users who tipped can pm, that would be excellent,

I doubt they will ever do this. I think one of their money makers is people buying the Support membership to get access to PM any model they want, I am sure if they changed this they would lose revenue from that, I doubt anyone would buy it then.

As for the new merged PM/Dm, I honestly don't mind it as a user, but i have only spoken with 1 model since it has happened and she really hates it, finds it confusing and more difficult to talk to people, you can see the confusion and awkward looks on her face too.

The whole intention of this is great and I get i.

The only thing that annoys me about it (at least for now anyway) is sending GIFs in the PM, on my blue side, they can look bad and have a white background . many gifs were designed to show on a white BG.

It'd be great if the PMs had a read receipt to them, that's always very useful - although some members may cry about it if a model reads and doesn't reply instantly, but it works fine on other places.
