The motivations and benefits of a unified messaging system still need to be articulated. The consensus in the chat I was in when they were rolling the changes out earlier today was:
- It seems to be trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist, and
- It takes away something that viewers find valuable, namely being able to have both permanent and transient chats. Coming to a new stream with a model we have a history with and being able start a new conversation is seen as a good thing.

Yep the system merge happened while I was online, and it was terrible.
I really prefer the simplicity of the old PMs, I wish CB had an option to opt out of this change.
And it seemed to result in a whole bunch more unsolicited messages, again from names that didn't appear in the room user list. Really hate that shit.

I was also online when the merge happened and had about 20 minutes of not being able to tip, being told I had no tokens and needed to buy more and getting the dreaded status page.

Yep I had all that trouble too. I noticed that when I refreshed the page and then tried to tip, the tip window left the tip amount blank, whereas it always used to default to 25 tokens on first entry, or refresh.

The new Messages feature yields a much poorer experience for moderators than before. I typically have several conversations going at any time with fanclub members and others looking for answers or direction. When those were taking place in the PM tab it made it feel like those conversations were part of the room. But now those conversations are taking place in the DM popup which is outside of the room and doesn't feel as connected any more.
While I understand CB's rationale for this change and other changes that support what seems to be a mobile first approach, I think they are alienating users by breaking these long-standing communication patterns.

I'll tell you what the new message system is. It's shite. That's what it is. Like you I'm a moderator and now the messages tab is full of every single conversation I had (mostly models DMing me on entry to a room when I'm browsing) and now I can no longer easily interact with the conversations in the room.

This should have been implemented with a consent strategy: Person A has to request to person B to send them photos via Messages and person B has to consent before person A can send any photos, and consent should be revokable at any time. This would solve the spam issue -- and probably reduce PM begging by a whole lot -- while still allowing for transactional exchanges and other sharing between people who know each other.
