Hi Everyone. I am not a cam model but i earn my living as an affiliate by sending visitors over to chaturbate via all the adult websites i own and run. This is a full time 7 days a week job for me and thousands of other people. If i have sent someone over to chaturbate and he created an account then i get 20% of the tokens he buys. If webcam girls are then getting that user to basically delete the account and create a new account for them then that girl has just stole my 20% imo. I totally understand new girls or even established girls might not know about this as the information is not readily available so please dont think im having a go at anyone. Basically all the users on chaturbate have not just came from Google. Thousands of websites with chaturbate banners are sending over people that hopefully become spenders and make both us and you money. We get 20% for sending you that person and you get your 70% or whatever the rate you girls all get whenever the person spends tokens on you. For the model to then get that person to sign up under their account so they get the 20% on top of the 70% they already get, whilst we get a big fat $0 is soul destroying for us and there is a lot of anger on the affiliate side of things. We are all reporting girls we see doing it all the time. I dont know if Chaturbate tell the girl why they have been banned but it is not allowed on Chaturbate and could be a reason there are so many "why have Chaturbate banned me" posts that are all over this forum. You are breaking their terms of service doing it. I just wish there was far more awareness of this problem as cam girls and affiliates should be working together

sure yes, but if they first came to the site with another affiliate link, they should sign up with the link they used. your affiliates link posted on your profile will cancel that out. i can see how it can be a slippery slope. i always thought it was strange how cb allowed their models to have their affiliate links on their profile because that would conflict with their affiliates getting properly paid for their advertising efforts.
Correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure that the affiliate link that was first clicked on gets the sign- up? Something to do with cookies.

i don't do cb affilates, so im going by the knowledge i do have from working with others. some affiliate links allow browsing before you sign up. your link redirects them to a whole different link with a different affiliate referral code. sure it's the same site, but a different code.

I was under the understanding that it was the link that takes the user over to chaturbate that gets it, even if they clicked on someone elses affiliate link when they were then browsing the site, would still go to us. Chaturbate couldnt allow that as the big adult companies that spend a lot of money sending visitors over would see it and cancel the deal.

affiliate cookies dont get over written for CB, so whoevers cookie is already in place gets the credit regardless of what future affiliate links they click on.
ahh i see why cb allows model affiliate links on their profiles since they made sure there isn't any conflict. wish other sites would follow suit because i'd switch my hustle to attract anonymous viewers if there was more incentive then base pay.

That's the way it was supposed to work but there are two known easy workarounds to that., so if the model instructs the members to use one (or has someone else do it for her) she will get the 20%.

yes, this works. She can ask viewers to use her own affiliate link to create a new account. This account will be linked to her. No old cookie seems to remain stuck then.

As Punker also said in this thread, its against the site rules. Crazy that girls are risking being banned to do it. Its just not being highlighted how badly this damages the Chaturbate site and how its affiliate fraud in my opinion ( and a lot of other webmasters ).

Obviously a new name is needed but is not enough, as @mira_leo said the affiliate link that was first clicked on gets the sign- up"(the old cookie DOES her job). The workarounds I was talking about are clearing the cookies first or opening the affiliate link in a private browser window, there is also a third method but I never tested it. I've seen all three at a lot of models, but lately, some "cleaning" took place, maybe they received warnings. But they(or someone else for them) still can instruct members how to do it outside of CB (e.g. DMs on twitter)

A lot of models convert anonymous viewers into members so I think it makes a lot of sense.

Exactly. It takes time and patience to convince anons to make an account and buy tokens, the models that do it fully deserve respect for their work. CB is wise to let them use affiliate links, it should leave them something when a member converted by them moves to another girl, and it makes despicable the new girl when she is greedy and makes the member drop the old name and create another with her link. About 2 years ago when I found CB the model that converted me took a lot of time during all of her streams to explain the way the site works to newbies, the methods of payment and had her sneaky and fun way to make anons create an account, even wrote guides about how to choose a good name, how to be a cool member, one for those thinking they are in love with a camgirl and many others. Needless to say, her members were poached by other girls and instead of being grateful for getting already "educated" members they convinced them to make new names in order to steal the 20%, too.

Yeah its a massive problem and loads of us are constantly reporting girls. The funniest thing is girls doing this are also stealing from other cam girls who use the affiliate program. Say you as a cam girl get an anons surfer to sign up to the site and get the 20% every time that user buys tokens. The user then becomes a big spender and another cam girl then gets them to clear cookies and create a new account. That cam girl has literally just stole that 20% from YOU. The thing with the camgirls doing this, they couldnt care less if they are stealing that 20% from advertisers like me or hard working cam girls who play by the rules like you. They will steal our/your money any honestly dont give a shit. You can report girls doing it anonymously so dont worry about repercussions. We are reporting girls all the time in the hope they get banned

I'm trying to understand how this "affiliate" thing works. As a member, I've been on CB for well over 5 years now. I first learned of CB after seeing the site mentioned in an MFC lounge. I typed in "Chaturbate" into Google, and the actual site link was at the top of the results list, which is what I clicked on. After arriving at the CB site I clicked on the "sign up" link and created my account. It was a week or so before I found a model with whom I decided to buy tokens to spend on.

Does the Google link I followed have some sort of "affiliate" cookie stored in my browser that would give someone other than Google the 20%? Also, I've spent thousands of dollars over the past 5 years supporting the models that I enjoy on CB, so does this affiliate cookie thing get reset each time I buy tokens, giving someone else(some unknown "affiliate"?) a portion of my spending each time I buy tokens? I would think that the very first model I decided to buy tokens for would be the benefactor of any initial sign-up, or spending I did while on the site, especially since I never visit other porn sites that would have sent me to CB with an affiliate link.

Edited to add: I also have my browser set to clear cookies after each browsing session. Does anyone get the 20% in this case?

No not google because thats just a search engine. Affiliate programs are something advertisers and website owners participate in but chances are high if you frequented pornhub without an adblocker than at some point some cb stream probably opened up and you had an affiliate cookie already in your browser.

I'm just wondering if anyone is getting the 20% somehow. I don't visit "pornhub" or other adult sites of the sort. I use an adblocker and as I stated above, I have my browser set to clear cookies after each browsing session. I also use a direct link to CB as stored in my bookmarks bar. Being this is the case, if the first model I bought tokens for, over 5 years ago now, didn't receive the 20% when I first bought tokens, then who, if anyone, would?

As already replied your 20% does not go to Goole. They go into CB's pockets. If you want 20% to be received by a specific model you need to create a new username by clicking on her link (check her page or ask her if it's not listed) and create that name, you must have on the address bar in the sign-up page something like "https://chaturbate.com/in/?track=default&tour=3Mc9&campaign=ABCDE&redirect_to_room=-welcomepage-" - where "ABCDE" is a string of characters (lower and uppercase) unique for each model. BTW it does not matter if your browser deletes cookies after you create that username(it's even better because you have no prior cookies at the moment you create the name), only the moment you create the name counts.

It's sad you ask this only after 5 years, personally, I wish to know where any part of my hard-earned money goes. It could be worse, my model had a 4years+ guy that spent thousands monthly and his account was also created without anyone's link, I always felt bad about those huge(at least by my POV) money wasted but they were his money and not my place to comment...He always claimed to "care about her" and it was just a lousy username, nothing stopped him to make a new one...

(my opinion) for the fact is chaturbate encourages it!

The money went to CB so they can keep the servers running, duh.
Already said a paragraph above "They go into CB's pockets. ". Cb already gets approx. 17% from all money spent by members so 20% from accounts created without links only adds up to this. And servers are just a part of the expenses, a good part goes to payment processors, high-speed internet, etc. Even so, CB employees get to have beside "competitive salary", "Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance", "Monthly Lunch Get-Together + Unlimited Snacks & Drinks ", "Vacation + Flexible Time Off Policy ", " relocation costs" covered (well, no idea about those that reply at Support, they might outsource those :) ).

I have to agree with this. Seeing as CB is a "freemium" site, the responsibility of converting free members into paying members falls squarely on the models shoulders. I could understand an affiliate getting a one-time referral fee for sending someone to CB and they create an account, but for them to sit back and get 20% of every token package that same person buys over time, simply by virtue of having a cookie stored on your computer, seems suspect to me. If a model can convert a Grey user to a paying member, regardless of where that member comes from, then the model who converted them should receive the compensation for his/her/other efforts.

CB's representative here already said, "In regards to punitive action taken, each situation is different and may or may not result in the ban of a broadcaster’s account."
As long as you genuinely only list your link on your page and encourage anons to use it without telling them to delete cookies or use private browser windows you (and any other model) have nothing to fear.

What @camsuk think it should be punished is models that "train"(in public or private) members that already signed through an affiliate site or through another model 's link to dump the original name and create a new one.
CB has the final call on how they deal in those cases and affiliates can always stop sending traffic to CB if they are unhappy with CB's actions(or lack of it).

What do you think made CB so popular? There are massive amounts of people participating in the affiliate program and advertising for CB. They can't convert a visitor if the visitor doesn't show up. It's not about converting a grey user, once the account is registered then thats it, its tied to the affiliate ID from the cookie permanently and in most cases the model doesn't put forth any special effort in getting anonymous to register. They usually try to chat and then it pops up asking them to register to do so.

Doing that is perfectly fine Moody and Chaturbate allows it and encourages it. You say you have several who buy tokens and you get there share. How would you feel it that user that is earning you a share was in another camgirls room. She asked that person to delete his account, clear cookies and create another account under her link. You no longer receive anything when he buys tokens, the cam girl that stole him now gets YOUR share every time he buys tokens.

No offence meant Lucid but wow this is so wrong. That grey user is only there because i have worked my ass off for years to build a website capable of sending them to Chaturbate in the first place. Without people like me, other website owners and big advertisers then a big chunk of the users over the past few years wouldnt be there. Yous already get what 60 or 70% of the tokens spent on you. We get 20% and now you want to take that off us so we get 0% ?. I wish someone from Chaturbate could tell us a rough figure of how much members sent over to chaturbate from affiliates and advertisers had spent on yous in the past year. Bet it would blow your mind.

I only found out about this "affiliate" program and how it works just today, from reading this thread, so I wonder how many users/members actually know about its existence and are informed about how it works? Why should a model be banned for educating a member about its existence and how it works? If a member, once educated about how this works, makes the decision to re-register so the model can benefit from their purchases, then that member is making a decision based on informed consent with information that wasn't made available to them previously. It's still a win/win for CB and the model. It seems as though CB themselves have created this problem and are playing both ends against the middle in an effort to keep both parties happy.

No offense taken. I understand the concept of driving traffic and revenue streams, but this whole system seems like it is rigged in favor of the affiliates. If the site sending the traffic received a one-time referral fee or something similar, then I'd be fine with that. But to be able to lock yourself into a permanent revenue of 20% of what a member spends -forever- seems excessive. Knowing what I know now about how this works, I'm very tempted now to create a new account so my favorite model can benefit from my spending instead of some possible unknown party that I may not have known about 5+ years ago. Just sayin, as a customer, I should have the informed consent about how this works, and make my own informed decision about where I want my money going.

I only learned about affiliate stuff after using the internet for many years too. The honest truth is it is a billion dollar industry and every major website has an affiliate program. Amazon, Ebay, every porn site , cam site, dating site etc. Nearly every site online is giving affiliates a % of a sale they generate. Its just the way it is.

Affiliate marketing made 15 billion last year

So here is my take as a very successful affiliate and model on Chaturbate... I will try to be succint so I will do a list.

1) Affiliates who drive traffic to the site deserve all their revenue. It is unfair when models poach the affiliate accounts. Since both models and affiliates are allowed to work with the affiliate program and models have a first hand interaction with the account holders we can definitely say there is a conflict of interest between affiliates and models that tends to resolve in the model's favor.

2) On the other hand many models drive more traffic to Chaturbate than the affiliates themselves. They hook members on social media and funnel the traffic to their Chaturbate room. Many models have MASSIVE online presence on Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, Youtube, and some (like me) have massive mailing lists. These models drive fresh traffic to Chaturbate and they too, should be compensated for it. You might think that the 50% they get from tokens spent on them should be enough, but what you aren't seeing is the model only gets 50% as long as she is online working live on cam. It is a very rare case when a model receives offline tips worth anything. While an affiliate wakes up in the morning to 100 USD revenue while he was sleeping, a model never sees this. While an affiliate can take a week off and still see revenue generated by the members he converted last year, last month, etc... a model relying on her tips will get 0 that week. So models do resort to the affiliate program as a safety net.

3) When a model pushes hard for conversions because she has some skin in the game she will convert users with other affiliate cookies too. She converts 300 anonymous to members? Maybe 100 had her cookie, 200 had someone else's. As long as she doesn't ask members to clear cookies and create new accounts, any conversions that she makes where someone else has the cookie in place will go to the original referrer. So, if a model pushes for conversions the affiliates win too.

4) The problem then is a matter of whether the model is POACHING existing members or CREATING brand new ones. I personally always considered it below the belt to act in the second way especially those models who added that to their bios. My wording was always "IF YOU HAVE AN ACCOUNT then please log-in to help me climb in the contest and IF YOU DON'T then create one using this link xxxxx". This should be fine. But many models do not word it like that.

5) There IS a real problem of a conflict of interest however... the stink affiliates are making on GFY and other forums is a little off base because they are simply SPECULATING. Meaning: it is impossible for an affiliate to know when a big account drops why it happened. Some members simply run out of money and drop off the site out of the blue. Others get caught by their wives. Some members simply decided one day that they had a funnier username in mind and they create it from their office computer without your original cookie in it. It is simply a fact of life in affiliate marketing that you have to keep converting new accounts in order for your income to remain the same because users do tend to have a lifespan and that's simply the way it is. And what I see is many affiliates who aren't seeing a profit like they would like, instead of taking a hard look at their own hustle, start to make up a scenario in their minds in which models are stealing all their accounts. And while this does happen, it isn't as prevalent as you would think.

6) Another thing to consider from the models perspective is this... there are 100s of members who come and go and spend here and there and wouldn't ditch their account for any model. You get to keep the revenue of these users forever. However, these members who don't establish a connection tend to stop spending rather quickly Each model has a handful of members she really devotes herself to both in terms of emotional connection and special attention. If she didn't do this the members would never spend as much as they do or maybe even at all because the spending is connected to the relationship with the model. Many models consider this extra effort they put into the relationship and the loyalty these members have for her a reason to keep the revenue for themselves, because if it wasn't for them the member wouldn't even be there. If the model switches platforms, the members would go with her, etc.

7) In my humble opinion Chaturbate should be very strict with models about not using their affiliate link while they are broadcasting. Only to use it off-site, for instance, in their social media so they make sure that the accounts they are converting are fresh. However, I am sure that even if the site would set a rule like this in place, affiliates would say that models are sending all the traffic to their twitter so they can poach from there.

8) Even if Chaturbate wanted to forbid models from their affiliate program it is VERY HARD to police. As it is right now ANYONE can use the affiliate program, unlike CPA networks where you have to go through 15 hoops, send them a picture of your cat and swear over the bible your traffic is clean, Chaturbate lets anyone use an affiliate link. This is fantastic in terms of usability but it does make it harder to stop models from using the program as a model would simply have to create a new user accountt to get a referral link.

9) No matter what the actual scope of the problem is... or how Chaturbate handles it, the real problem is the opinion climate and right now Chaturbate's affiliate program is suffering a big hit. This drives affiliates away from Chaturbate and they start promoting other offers like Stripchat which is now ubiquitous and taking the spot of what used to be Chaturbate banners. This should be worrisome to Chaturbate AND to affilaites like yourself who promote the site because tippers follow herd mentality and they tip when they see others tipping. If the flow of new users slows down your own affiliate accounts will stop spending as much because they will not see the tips flowing across site. Someone interested in promoting this offer also should have an interest in others promoting the site too because the more fresh quality users are on CB the more tips will flow and that brings up the spending across the board.

10) As a model, all in all, I wish there was an easy solution. A camsite is nothing without traffic and traffic is owed to affiliates who send it our way. If push comes to shove I wouldn't be entirely opposed to CB banning models from the affiliate program, but I don't think it's on CBs best interest considering how much fresh traffic models bring from social media and how hard they try to convert it while on cam. Maybe they should keep strict rules as to the wording on the bios.

Sounds reasonable right? My advice is to try it out, sign up for the affiliate program for 20% rev share and advertise your link using some paid advertising. What you'll quickly find out is that the affiliate program is so popular that majority of the traffic you send already has a cookie in place and you won't make any money from it. You may get lucky and get a big spender or two and thats when you realize that you need them to keep spending money in order to recoup the money you've spent and if your lucky and you keep working hard at it you can generate decent profit.

I don't know the person that referred me, it was a popup a long time ago but i'm thankful for it and I don't know if the person is some rich advertising tycoon or if its some poor guy in some 3rd world country with only a few registrations and i'm his main source of income 🤷‍♂️

Amazon, Ebay, every porn site , cam site, dating site etc. Nearly every site online is giving affiliates a % of a sale they generate. Its just the way it is.

Affiliate marketing made 15 billion last year

I understand how affiliate marketing works in regards to Amazon, EBAY and other retail sites. If I see a link to a circular saw on someone's blog that I like and trust, I know(from their required disclosure) that the blog author will receive a commission for THAT sale, and that sale only. I do not expect that same blog author to receive a commission if I go back to Amazon and buy something else a year later because he has some hidden cookie on my computer. That blog author has already made me aware of Amazon and was rewarded for it via the commission. Like I said above, if this is an agreement that CB has entered into with its affiliates, to pay revenue in perpetuity for sending someone to their site "once", then so be it. But if this is a matter of models giving members information about how it works, which it seems to be, then I see no harm of foul if they tell anonymous, unregistered users to register using their links so they can benefit instead.

ETA: In regards to cookie clearing - there is no way of knowing if a user has their browsers set to clear cookies after each browsing session - so reporting a model for "educating" a member about how this works is a bit of a stretch.
