I have a pimple on my gums, next to a tooth that has an infected nerve (abscessed). The nerve has drained and chosen the path of least resistance, hence the pimple. I have a dental appt tomorrow morning and I feel dumb but not surprised because I haven't been to the dentist in 6 years so if all I have is an abscessed tooth, I should consider myself lucky. It's still uncomfortable and painful when I stick my tongue out, yawn or press on it.

Well it won't be 'all' that's wrong because there'll be other teeth on the way to going bad that need work...but a tooth abscess is not a small thing, you'll possibly lose the tooth, and if untreated tooth abscesses can be fatal! If the pus from an abscess finds its way into your bloodstream you can be dead in under 24 hours.

Actually, I've gone exactly one day without having my nails painted since I was ten years old. That's eleven and a half years. It probably is a problem, but I don't see how it's hurting anyone and it doesn't affect my health so idgaf. :lol:

Well it won't be 'all' that's wrong because there'll be other teeth on the way to going bad that need work...but a tooth abscess is not a small thing, you'll possibly lose the tooth, and if untreated tooth abscesses can be fatal! The dental assistants I spoke to on the phone said (from 2 separate offices) I'll likely need an antibiotic. The pimple popped up 3 days ago and based on other people who've had these, they had excruciating pain and were unable to eat but I think they allowed it to get really bad before actually seeing a dentist (like face swelling, etc). I only have some discomfort but in less than 24 hours, I'll be in a dentist's chair with some piece of mind and a more definite diagnosis.

After checking 7 electronic stores, I have given in and bought Resident Evil Revelations on amazon. I should really get my data transfered on to a bigger SD card to while I am at it. The relay system for Nintendo Zone locations is fantastic. Getting a person's street pass stuff while they don't have to be there.

Probably going to have to get a root canal, filled cavity and crown. Oh well. Not a horrific diagnosis for someone who hasn't been to the dentist in 6.5 years, it was sort of expected. I know my [newly-acquired] insurance won't cover everything but it'll be OK I guess.

My friend's husband had the same 3 issues I did and actually went to Mexico to get the cavity filled and crown, because all 3 procedures would have been too expensive in the States, and that was with insurance

I've had a 'few' let's just say. Last time I think it was $700 for the root canal and another $700 for the crown.

It was an emergency root canal so the dentist worked me in Monday morning after I had worked a 12 hour shift. I fell asleep during the whole thing. The dentist kept on waking me up asking me if I was okay. I finally had to tell him to leave me alone, I was trying to sleep. I don't think he's ever had someone go to sleep during one of his root canal procedures. :lol:

I'm so out of touch with anything dental-related. Haha. There's some very very slight discomfort/pain on the gum tissue of the nerve-damaged tooth but I don't want to wait until it's unbearable to get the root canal.

I understand going under would be more, but I didn't want that so I don't know what that ran. I also don't like the gas. Makes me sick just smelling that stuff.

The sucky part is my insurance only covered 40% of it. And there was a yearly max payout of $1000 of what they would cover. Everything else was my pocket. Use to max them out every year when I had insurance.

I've had shots only and a combination of shots and gas. As J-Bo points out, everybody is different, but for me the combination was very good. Another thing that I liked, was the dentist office offered me a music player and headphones to wear during the procedure. That made a big difference. You may want to try that My advice is to get it done as soon as the antibiotics clear up the infection. When the infection is gone, most (if not all) of the pain will be gone, and you may risk further damage (the weakened tooth may crack, etc.).

Also, a lot of dentists have payment plans available

As far as dental procedure pain, my friend tells the dentist "crank up the gas to 'death', then back it off half a notch" :lol:

Music player is an excellent idea. Love when my dentists have that. Every time the drill starts I crank the volume.

On the payment plan though. Also keep in mind some dentists will give a 'same day cash' discount. So if you can afford it up front be sure to ask about that before you go in and have cash with you. Might save you a bit of money.

Looks like I went in at the latent stages of tooth abscess so it was pretty hard for the dentist to give me a definite diagnosis, but that didn't stop him from quoting me prices and mentioning root canals and such :shock: I'm going to my family dentist next, the one I've been with since I was 13, for a second opinion.

Yeah unfortunately once there's an abscess a root canal is the only option (if you don't remove all the dead tissue and seal it all up you won't get rid of the infection). Abscesses can be painful in varying amounts depending where it is located on the tooth - the one I had was right on the END of the root so they had to remove the whole thing, and I could see it sitting on the end of the tooth o.o.

But yeah it hurt like fuck anytime anything even touched the tooth cos there was like direct pressure on the infection.

I think, without realizing it, I bought one of those $15 (or whatever the price is) Six Flags cups and ended up throwing it away. I didn't even want that cup, but since I asked for a cherry slurpee, I guess that's the cup they have to use for it? Ok, I worked out a deal with one of my guys for motivation. He's a writer who also needs inspiration to work. The deal is however many hours I work, he writes that many pages. This way I'm forced to work or I feel guilty that he hasn't worked. Trust me feeling guilty in this case is a good thing. My mom and i use to play scrabble together a lot. I would always think of the biggest words I could. Plan out where I could get those double and triple word scores. Take my time and try for that 50 point bonus for using all 7 letters. Cheat and look up dubious words in the dictionary.

Meanwhile she'd just immediately plunk down 2 or 3 letter words when it came to her turn. See an 'I' free she'd plop down an H and take the 5 points just smiling while she did it.

I never won against her. I hate scrabble.
