i was doing a show and in the chat log, in smallish unhighlighted black font, a message popped up saying i'd been tipped 100 tokens by someone. i did a little dancing and flashing and another message popped up the same way saying i'd been tipped 100 tokens by the same member. these tokens aren't showing up in my earnings. the message didn't look like it was from the member, i'm pretty sure it said something like "you've been tipped 100 tokens by _____." anybody know what's up?

Sounds like he used the {*emote*} function. You got faked. Sorry. :(

well shit. thanks amber, sorry for posting about this in 2 spots... damn. i feel really dumb now. so tips always show up in yellow?

There's an emote floating around that looks like the yellow box that comes up when you're tipped. But it's not accompanied by the "dannngggg" that real tips are and obviously doesn't show up in your tip total thingamajigger.
It sounds like that was what it was. I don't really know what your model page looks like when you're broadcasting but I'm guessing that if your token total isn't updated along with the image or if there's no "dannng", its' probably just that emote.

If anyone tips you a ton of bacon however, dances are compulsory

Can't believe theres an emote for actual tips that could be misinterpreted/abused like that though, you'd have thought MFC would have blocked those custom emotes!

bob, it is just KatieBoots. see, i thought it might have been one of the tips that only i (and the tipper) could see because i remembered somewhere when i signed up for my account that it could be done that way... i thought about emailing MFC to tell them people are fake tipping, but i assume it would do no good. live and learn.

bob! i just thought you should know, every time i see your avatar, i think it's a pic of this guy i know who looked just like the Dude (until he cut his hair off). and i freak out a little. then i realize it's just the Dude.

MFC already knows about the fake tips. They had to approve the emote before the guys could use it!

However, they have provided those safeguards to make it easy for models to tell the fake tips from the non. Since tips are supposed to be gifts and not currency (we still get the tokens, but they are supposed to be a sign of appreciation and not a payment), they don't have a problem with the fake tips (think of them as "gag gifts")

Make sure your speakers are always on and loud enough to hear the tip ding. If you don't hear the ding, it's not a real tip! If it doesn't have a yellow or gray background, it's not a real tip! If it's not worded properly, it's not a real tip!

I can't remember which site it was on, but a while back some fool came into my free chat and posted something along the lines of "This is the site admin. Get naked in free chat. You MUST do what admin says!" LOL.

My first night on I had a guy that did this to me twice in a row. Thankfully I realized enough that I could see when I got tips and was able to see that they were not real. I am really surprised that I was not duped by this. I also had a couple helpful guys that night who was telling me it wasn't real, although I was able to tell that myself.

Brown_Fox I had a guy come in my room and pm me telling me he was from Admin and that he was reviewing me since I was new and I had to do what all of the guys requested for the next 20 minutes I think. Yeah no go, I blocked his ass quickly....

I wish I could be surprised by this behavior. I was *luckily* never duped, but I can see how it could happen. I attached a few pictures as I'm sure that this happens more often than it ever should to new models on MFC. Hopefully this helps a bit. :)

Some people are so immature. I probably would've taken a screenshot to e-mail to Model Support. Their usual response is "We've warned the member. Please let us know if it does not sink in." But I think that if enough models complain about a member, MFC will ban them. I had a racist troll in my room once, and after I (and a few of my chatters) reported him, MFC told me that the member had been banned.

Hmm I have the conversation because it was a private chat not public, I wonder if I should pull it up and send them then.

http://www.myfreecams.com/mfc2/php/chat_logs.php will take you to all your chats, both private and public.

Ladies, a pretty easy way to tell if a tip is real is by looking at the "Token Earnings" box on the software or browser. It keeps an automatic, instant, and live record of all the tips you earned that session (if you close the window and open it again, the token count will reset.)

If you don't know if a guy has really tipped you or not, look at that box... it doesn't take a few minutes to refresh. It is immediate.

Another way to tell, and this I use pretty often, is to go to the user lookup page and type in their full name. It will give you a record of their most recent tips to you.

But in a live session I usually just keep an eye on the token earnings box. It never lies!
