How long do you try before deciding a site isn't working for you?

I searched the forums and found similar questions but not this exact one. It seems like it's probably a common noob question though, so if it's there and I missed it, I apologize.

How long would you work a site before deciding that you're not successful there and trying a new one? I know I've only been doing this a few weeks and I'm not trying to jump the gun or anything, I'm just wondering how long I should keep trying Chaturbate before trying to split my time between it and another site. So far my most successful shift was my first where I made $58 and since then I don't think I've made more than a few bucks per shift. Someone bought me some things off my wishlist the other day, but that's the most lucrative thing that's happened since my first day. I cammed during my first week, starting the day after I was verified, but I never saw the kind of numbers other people talk about having with the new model tag. The people who do come in tell me I'm pretty and personable, but I know it's a saturated market and you have to offer something unique. I'm definitely still finding my groove. I'm not worried yet; I know there's a new model slow period followed by more occasional slow periods just because. I don't expect to get instantly rich or anything, but I would like to get to the point where I can subsidize my student loans to pay my rent and such. The equivalent of $12-15 an hour would be good. I'm just wondering at what point I should no longer chalk it up to being unestablished and try some other sites? Right now I have a set schedule for Monday-Wednesday and a variable weekend schedule that I update on Twitter. Once I'm not in school I intend to add more time. When I cam I'm on for at least four hours. I have a good webcam, a decent mic, high-speed internet (not the fastest money can buy, but the glitching is minimal), and decent lighting (no professional lighting, but I cam mostly during the day, and have some bright lamps for when I can't).

Yes to all of the above. I guess I'm less looking for feedback on how I'm doing and more asking at what point other models would consider a site to be unsuccessful and move on to a new one. Okay, that explains it, then. If you are putting in the time and the effort and you aren't seeing the results you want, then I would try a different site. If you find entertaining difficult or challenging give a private based site a try. You definitely have the right physique for it as being busty draws a lot of attention and they will want to take you private so see you naked.

So looking through your twitter/CB/did a google search of your camname and there are a couple things which I think may be hurting your viewer count. First, I don't see where you're posting links to your stream on twitter when you are online. Even if you have the link in your bio, having it there in the post makes it easier for people to find. I typically make a post a bit before I'm online ("I'll be online around 6PM, guys. See you there!" that kinda thing) and then once I'm online, tip menu/goals all up and running I'll post with the link and throw on some hashtags just in case. At least a few times a week I try to post a quick cam-selfie just from using the windows snipping tool with the post. At the end of every show I always make sure to tell people to follow my twitter if they want real-time updates as to when I'll be online. I don't have a huge follower count but I'm able to get my room count up fast enough to move through the pages and not get stuck on page 7 or something.

Then once I'm on cam the first hour typically sets the tone for the rest of the show. So I try to put as much energy into that as possible. For me, this means, making sure that I am being *very* deliberate with 1. posing to make sure my thumbnails are turning out well. standing thumbnails typically draw in more viewers for me. 2. lots of eye contact with the cam, the last thing I want to look right now is distant. 3. lots of babbling to myself. talking like I'm having a conversation with someone. this is easier now that I have regs who I really do talk to, but even if they weren't there, I'd still talk about the things I'd done that day. there's some videos on youtube about how to do this, mainly aimed towards twitch streamers but it still applies to camming in certain ways. basically, dead air is bad. it's kinda like radio.

I've done a lot of normal book reading myself, and something I do is I'll pull up the "keep it going" app for a tip jar. Keep tipping, and I'll try to read with a hitachi running. Stop, and we'll just keep reading without it. With the right group book nights can be *loads* of fun. But keeping people's interest is hard because you've got two camps of people: those who get what's going on, and enjoy being read to, and the people who are just like, "wtf this is a porn site." so the vibe keeps it "porny" enough to increase the viewer count at the very least.

I noticed your post in another thread talking about doing free teases and stuff, and how one would advertise for that and it got me thinking of another thing that might be hanging you up...you explain a lot to your audience, which can be good as it helps keep them from being confused by what you're doing. But not everything needs to be explained. If you want to practice strip teases, practice strip teases. Your thumbnail will advertise it enough for you. Not everything needs a structured kind of marketing approach. Typically I reserve hard marketing pushes like that for my holiday themed events/cammiversary type things/competitions/raffles. But other than that, what you actually do on cam can usually be explained well enough through...well...doing.

I'd try these things before moving on from CB. I think it's hard to find a flow as a camgirl, and there are times when things just dry up (november was a bad month for me). But while there is no such thing as guaranteed money on CB, and you can't assume because one thing worked for one girl that it will work for you, I do strongly believe there are things you can do which increase the likelihood of gaining viewers and earning tips. If there weren't things that made it more likely then the front page wouldn't be filled with such similar cams (couples having sex, a solo girl having a cumshow, lovense, lovense, lovense, couples having sex, etc.).

I know I tend to start out kind of slow and get more interesting as the show goes on and I find my groove, so I will put more effort into being on my game from the get-go. I would also recommend maybe cleaning up your bio a bit. It reads like an instruction manual. In general guys/girls don't want to Learn how to like you. Make your bio more playful (add graphics), be more to the point, don't explain stuff in such great lengths unless it NEEDs to be explained and be more fun in the bio instead of coming off controlling demanding.

I haven’t read all the replies, but I read one, and I would not at this point start wondering if camming is not for you.... if you’ve only tried one website so far. I personally know a model who made next to nothing on a tip-based site and now kills it on Streamate. She was struggling at the time and I suggested she switch. She did great. She also switched her model name and worked on some twitter branding.

My personality type... if it was me, after two weeks of under $50 earnings, I would definitely drop chaturbate and go try a different website. But some models may stick it out for a long time and see success ... there is a few “top model” success stories that begin with a very slow start but lots of perseverance to get where they are. I don’t think there is a wrong answer. Just go with your gut feeling. I make my best choices when I first open my eyes in the morning - before my brain starts going and the thoughts are all just gut-based.

It's pretty easy for token sites not to pay off especially when you're starting out. I'd try private based sites. See if that pays better or if you enjoy it. If you don't like private based (I've found that I don't save a few people who treat me well), pour your time into clips! Clips are a little more methodical in how to get them to pay off. I find it way simpler. If you like the token sites, give them a bit of your time and do enough clips to not feel stressed if the tips don't come.

I started brand spanking new on Streamate. And from day one made $$ and got regulars. I knew from customer service/stripping for 7 years and waiting tables, that getting regulars and being friendly works. Worked and still works for me. Shortly after the new year (I started on SM Dec 2014) I started reading the forums here and SW, started asking questions to my fav models on twitter and some were nice enough to answer. I perved other sites and decided to try CB and MFC in late summer 2015. Totally different from SM and honestly, I still have no idea how to run my rooms on a token site. I just go with how I feel.
CB is hit and miss, But very productive for the most part. I LOVE bongacams and have always done well on there.
MFC is my favorite site as a member. I LOVE some of the girls on there and wish so much it was more productive for me. But it never is. I keep trying though. I've come so close to closing my account on there so many times!!! But now they have mfc share and do really well selling content, so I'm gonna try mfc some more.
I know it's a site that you need to spend a lot of time on, so it's partly my fault. But it's the one site I don't do well on.
My mistake was doing public shows in the beginning (but back then I made my goal) and they were wild DP toy/anal cowgirl twerking shows. THOSE are the videos you find all over tube sites, so now I get a room full of broke ass guys waiting for the public show...that no longer happens.
I guess to answer your question, the one site I dumped right away after trying for a couple weeks (splitting it with BC) was camsoda. I never made a dime and never had more than 10 guys in my room.
MFC has potential and that's what keeps me from closing my account. It's also the ONLY site where I sometimes feel bad about myself when logging off...and have even cried after logging off. To have a TON of guys just sitting there and not even talking to me, or tipping me. Little do they know I'm a FREAK if they'd only take me private.

I don't think I'll drop CB yet, I did get through my goals last night, but they were set lower than what I would like and I had to work longer than I was intending for not a whole lot of tokens. I got more people in my room though and more followers, so hopefully I can grow it from there and slowly increase my tips. I'm hoping that clip making will pull some people in as well. I think I may do SM in addition and see how it goes and if it's consistently way more lucrative I may switch completely. I feel like I'm more naturally disposed to a public setting, but if SM happens to work better I'm certainly not going to fight it.

Methodical in what way?

Clips are easier to figure out. They're not a moving target changing day to day based on who shows up in your room that day. If you figure out what you have to offer in clips and what sells easily for you, you just keep doing it and the people who buy keep buying it.

Yep, a better bio is an upcoming attraction. I'm working my way through a bunch of coding tutorials so I can make it look how I want. Right now I don't have the skills to make it look nice.

Picsart is my go to app when creating profile graphics. Off topic, but it makes it fun during down/offline time to make shit for my page ^_^

Edit to add: I upload any profile creations to tinypic then use the most basic coding to create order. Center, border, and color are the most "coding" I'll use and it's a great place to start until I learn how to css/html my whole page.

After doing everything I should be doing almost to a T (which is essentially perfect stream, posting, advertising, getting everything settled) a month of consistently streaming 4 hours at least a day, unless it's a token site like CB or MFC then I'd give it about 3 months of consistently streaming 6+ hours a day.

This job requires a lot of effort, work, and mental energy. Don't get discouraged as anyone can be successful, it's just the ones who become successful are either massively lucky or put in A TON of work. Even some of the top models on sites who are cute, have great systems and original ideas had to take months or even years of double normal people shifts to get there. It can be done, but if you're discouraged over not receiving immediate feedback then any entrepreneurial job isn't for you.

What I like to do is start off with small goals. My goal is to make at least minimum wage money in 1/3rd the time and improve my stream. But I also have very low bills to pay, so for others, it could be "survive."

Strive to survive before you thrive.
