I have been noticing that some , but not all, models based in Japan are now censoring their feeds (i.e. no genitalia display) is this legal and who does the checking since i would think law enforcement would need a warrant.

Solution
Thanks for everyone’s responses. After noting the increased availability of uncensored content I asked some IT friends living in Japan about it. They said that, with the explosion of porn sites over the last decade content is now being hosted and produced overseas that are not subject to the ban.
independent verification from some official sources that could coberate this would be next steps. I am far from an expert in any of this so please keep this in mind

I’m not sure what you mean by “is this legal.” If the censoring is being done by the model (or, I guess, by CB), that’s well within their rights and certainly not a law violation.

If you’re assuming some other entity is censoring it without permission, I’d argue that in order to even be in the position to censor the feed, they’re probably someone associated with the model or the site. And therefore, probably doing it with permission.

The censoring is done by the models themselves. It's a crime in Japan to show public nudity. The ones who are blurring genitalia are protecting themselves. They often wear masks or use heavy filters to protect themselves too.

The ones who do not censor their feeds are risking imprisonment. The taboo of the illegality is why they typically make so much money.

I was going to add, if an outside entity (ISP, third party administrator, etc) objected to the content, they’d be much more likely to just block the page entirely, rather than censor parts of the video stream itself. Same with CB. If they don’t like something on a stream, they’re probably going to shut it down entirely rather than try to censor a live broadcast while it’s happening.

So to OP’s question, any censoring being done on the model’s side is not only legal, but probably also a good idea, given their local laws.
