It may not be sexy but I love this CPR instructional ad that aired in the UK a little while ago...
I remember seeing that quite frequently when they brought it out, it is quite funny.

Honestly, us Americans are DUMB. In an emergency, we have to go to the bottom right for 9, then the top left for the 11. Right, cause that's real easy to do when your hands are shaking from shock.

999 is so much easier!

 To be fair, when the number was introduced it was designed for the phones that were in use at the time and worked well as it also helped reduce accidental failure to call and accidental dialing of the number.
Of course with the phones with have now, and especially mobile/cell phones, 999 is easier to dial but is also eaiser to accidentally dial.

Ah, you mean on a rotary phone. Yeah, cause you won't hit nine unless you mean it, and 1 is easy to get to.

Exactly, you have to mean to press 9 and then 1. Also because it was easier to find 9 in the dark (one of the reasons the UK chose 999 to begin with).
It's not exactly known as to why 911 was chosen but AT&T came up with it and they already had the numbers 211, 411 and 611 in use for long distance, information and repair services so it seems likely that's why.

The real WTF is the fact they used a rotary phone in the video to begin with. Won't be long before that's even recognizable as a phone.
 That's a good point.
