I'm wanting to dip my toes into the world of camming, however, I wanted to do some digging before I just go for it! Below I will post a few main questions I have regarding cam modeling.

1. How do I conceal my identity? I've thought of wigs, heavier makeup, and covering some of my recognizable tattoos. Any other suggestions?

2. What are the best sites to get started with?

3. I was looking into having my partner join me, any pointers for getting into couples cam?

4. I want to keep things interesting, what are the boundaries in cam? We enjoy BDSM but I don't want to be kicked off a site for violating policies.

5. What are some good ways to stand out?

Any and all other suggestions and tips are welcome and appreciated, Thanks!

Welcome! It’s an exciting industry to be jumping into isn’t it? I highly suggest you do a lot more research in the forums. There is a plethora of information just by typing in terms in the search section or even starting at the top of this forum with the “beginners start here” thread. Also camgirlwiki.
To start you off I’ll give you very basic answers to your basic questions
1. What you said is about it unless you want to try a mask as well, but be careful because most sites require you to show your full face live before being masked. This is because they need to know it’s you,the person who applied to the site, and that you’re not legal
2. It depends on your camming style and your desires. I believe the most popular public site to start on is Chaturbate and the most popular to start on privately is Streamate and if you’re doing indie shows I think the cam model directory is the place to go.
3. Some sites require a separate profile for couples, not all accept couples either. Research.
4. Every cam site has their own rules and some are more strict than others. Some things are obvious like no minors and some things are less obvious like not using the word “daddy” there are hundreds of things that can go here. Please read TOS for each site and research.
5. It’s all about personality. If you think you’re doing something new you’re dead wrong. It’s been done before but do it again with your personality and have fun.

I spent months researching before I ever signed up anywhere. I took notes a lot and now have over 400 pages typed of notes. Everything from TOS for sites to show ideas. I know I went overboard with research but it helps. These forums have so much info in public and when your are registered for a site you can verify yourself as a model here and get even more information.

If hiding your identity is a major concern to you, have you thought of maybe starting with videos?
Just because you could potentially have thousands of viewers watching you, recording your shows and putting them on mainstream porn sites. They're incredibly hard to have taken down after the fact.
Some sites will allow only partial masks, some don't allow them at all.
But with videos, you control the editing and shots, which could make keeping your face & tattoos hidden much easier.
There's lots of clip and video sites out there that will allow couples, some (like manyvids) allow you the option to sell skype shows. This could be a great introduction to the industry without leaving a heavy permanent imprint of your identity on the internet.

Even through that, you can be recognized. Hell, people can recognize you from your body only. You can try and block areas that contain a lot of people that know you, but geoblocking can severely limit your audience and earnings. You are most likely going to be found out doing this job. Hopefully when it happens, the person isn't an asshole.

2. What are the best sites to get started with?
To start on, probably Chaturbate or Streamate. MFC is quite daunting for newcomers with the model score and such.

3. I was looking into having my partner join me, any pointers for getting into couples cam?
I haven't done any couple camming but I imagine he'd need to be able to uh, keep it up, and have some stamina to make shows last. I think couples cams make a LOT of money. Make sure he's also ID verified and that you're on a couples account. I think CB and Streamate allow second accounts for couples.

4. I want to keep things interesting, what are the boundaries in cam? We enjoy BDSM but I don't want to be kicked off a site for violating policies.
Every single site has different rules. The usuals are no piss, no fisting, no blood, I know on Chaturbate you're not allowed to be fully bound up, you have to have at least one hand or leg free. Make sure you read the rules & terms of service THOROUGHLY before even pressing broadcast because none of them warn before they ban.
5. What are some good ways to stand out?
Personality. Be yourself.

Otherwise, invest in a decent webcam (the Logitech C920 is most popular), make sure you have good lighting, and a decent internet connection.
The stickied threads and such here are super helpful, especially with specifics about sites. You can also use the search function too for specific things, I love it.

I think couples cams make a LOT of money.

I've actually heard the opposite. Every model who's tried couple camming makes more solo.

Yeah when you factor in that you're paying out 50% of the earnings to your partner, you can make waaaay more solo camming.
Unless you're doing insanely high goals that double or triple your regular income.

I used to couple cam and my pay cheques were about the same, maybe 20% more than solo camming.
But after the payout, I make way more solo.

100% agree. I have tried having my boyfriend join in, and the room number grows, but the tips...not so much. Though we haven't tried doing ticket shows, so maybe there's something there.

I suggest doing your research, BUT don't let it overwhelm you. I am glad I didn't obsessively research, or it would have overwhelmed me and I don't know that I would have ever pulled the trigger on that Broadcast button. Can't over think it. I started out on Chaturbate, which is where I still am. For now.

As far as hiding your identity, I just don't think this is the job for someone who is overly concerned with people finding out. I had originally bought a wig, but the stupid thing was so heavy and hot and I was afraid it would fall off if I moved the wrong way! I blocked my state because there is one person in this world I don't want finding out- my daughter. I live in a small state, so I know I'm not missing out on buckets of $$, or that's what I tell myself! But I'd rather not go to a school function and have her math teacher or another parent look at me sideways haha! (Sidenote: people in my state can still see me if they are on their phone and have the wifi off!)

Please take this out of kindness, I am simply giving my advice!

I am always excited for people interested in camming because I love what I do and I really think the adult industry needs to grow out of the awful stereotype it has. It is not bad work and no one should be treated differently for it.

With that said, I understand when you first start out being its only natural to be worried about people recognizing you; but the big thing I worry about here is that you are feeling so conservative and wanting to hide it so harshly.
To me, people like this shouldn't get into the industry. Simply put, it's not for you.

When you get into camming or any form of adult entertainment work, but especially things that revolve around being online: it is inevitable that you will be found out eventually. You can take all the precautions, be extra careful and watch your steps meticulously, but in the end nothing can stop things from getting out there online. People will record your shows, screenshot certain parts of your streams and post things about you which is fine for publicity in the beginning. Your image will get leaked constantly by fans and its just something that has to be accepted as there is no way to keep it from happening. These people are not in your control and half the time you won't even know they are doing it until its most likely too late. I cannot tell you how many times I have found recordings of my shows, leaked photos, and the sort. Its a big annoyance for a cam girl but its also a big part of the cons.

Camming is all about self-promotion and if your too cautious and don't put yourself out there then you won't make it. You can't worry about who finds out about it and being this way can also be somewhat dangerous. Remember, this work can bring out the worst in people and with that sometimes fans can get weird or even become an internet stalker. I won't go too far into that side of it though. Just please put together the pros and cons for yourself and really be sure you are okay with the work even if one day people may figure out who you are.

TL;DR - My overall advice:

1. How do I conceal my identity?

In simplistic terms, you become a new person. Choose an alias and stick to it, use a fake name, age and birthdate. Obviously never give out your address or number. Blocking certain states can help some but not 100%. Covering tattoos seems to be going a bit far in my opinion only because that can easily wear off when you stream due to sweating, rubbing, and especially bath shows or shower shows. Its a bit impractical. Just rock them! Wigs can work but are easy to tangle and be ready for comments about them - I get them all the time from guys who are unaware of cosplay. At the end of the day though all you really can do is just stick to your character.
2. What are the best sites to get started with?
I started four years ago on MFC, its a good site but the CamScore is a hinderance. It makes the work very competitive, so if you choose to start with them make sure to work you cute booty off as much as possible to get as many regulars and tips as possible so that your CamScore is as high as possible because once that "New Model" tag wears off, most of your attention will split with it and your activity within your room will see a significant drop due to the CS. Honestly I am hearing a lot of good words coming from PornHub and I think I might go give that a go next.
3. I was looking into having my partner join me, any pointers for getting into couples cam?
The only site that couples ever seem to make a profit on is Chaturbate and even then I personally think solo cams get better attention and views. I don't know why but unless its girl on girl cameo type of streams then the partner aspect looses the interest of a good chunk of viewers.
4. What are the boundaries in cam?
Boundaries can vary site to site but you can always read up on their policies and list of taboo's on their sites, its easy to access information. The main restrictions I see on all sites however are things like bodily fluids (blood, urine, vomit, etc), DDLG or anything that involves age play (Even wearing pigtails believe it or not), and obvious things like having people or "models" in your room that are not registered.
5. What are some good ways to stand out?
Make your room a comfortable place to be and don't always focus on the masturbating/sex aspect. Be yourself or stick to the character you have made and get involved in your room conversation. Regulars will bring in most of your funds so treat them like gold. Come up with fun games like drawing things you could do out of a hat, invest in a spin board, do raffles, and most importantly have fun. Your engagement and energy is influential, so if you want an active hyped room then be so yourself. A good background set up and overall aesthetic are also great ways to get people drawn in!

Hope this helps, and again I am not trying to steer you away what so ever! I simply see all too often models that join then drop it all after a year or even less because it turns out to be too much work or just not something they enjoy. This work and what you do, what goes out there isn't something to do just for a short spontaneous moment in your life. If you're going to do it be sure and have fun with it. :h:

Best of luck and lots of love!
