So I have my girls in Tae Kwon Do class, and it's beginning to become somewhat of a battle getting my girls to practice during the week, especially my youngest. Now I know that it is normal for parents to struggle to get their kids to practice no matter what the extra curricular activity might be. I took piano lessons for years when I was a kid, and it was like pulling teeth for my mom to get me to practice. I hated it. She really did have to force me to practice. Even though I begged to get piano lessons for the longest time, when I finally did, it wasn't long before I was begging to her to let me quit. She told me no, and that I would understand why and thank her when I was older. She was right. I do understand why she didn't let me quit now, and I am very thankful. It taught me not to just quit as soon as things got hard, and it taught me to follow through, even when something became a challenge.
But I do remember, that when I was a kid, every once in a while I'd see a movie that would inspire me, and give me motivation or a renewed interest in playing the piano (as well as other extra curriculars).
So I was hoping to find some movies that I could watch with my kids that might spark a renewed interest in their martial arts.
So does anyone have any recommendations for a martial arts movie that could be inspirational?
Thanks. :)

Enter the Dragon
Return of the Dragon
Fist of Fury
(of course bruce lee must be at the top of the list. It's the law)

Ip Man
Fearless
Kung Fu Hustle (great comedy)
Shaolin Soccer
The Raid (both 1 and 2)...If you don't mind EXTREME grit and hardcore fighting. Oh my god that dude could wipe us all out in a heartbeat.
Chocolate (not the romance crap, the Thai version) and oh my god that little girl could kick all our asses!

Ong-Bak
Hero (jet li version) Epic story here....EPIC
Once upon a time in China (another Jet li)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (this is more special effects and scenery, but still quite majestic)
Kill Bill 1 and 2 (blood bath galore here)

some of the classics....
Seven Samurai

Samurai Trilogy...
Samurai I Musashi Miyamoto
Samurai II: Duel at Ichijoji Temple
Samurai III: Duel at Ganryu Island
This trilogy may be a bit hard to find. But it is my favorite of all time. By far masterpieces of filming. One of the best movies ever [the trilogy taken as a whole]. If you watch them look for the broad comparisons to the later Star Wars trilogy. The major themes were all mirrored right from this trilogy. Lucas credits The Hidden Fortress, but it's here too in a big way if you look.)

The Hidden Fortress
Shogun Assassin (lone wolf and cub series right here)

Red Cliff (get the international version. NOT the U.S. version. They hacked it in half for U.S. release.) This is majestic story telling on a Gone With the Wind scale. Epic awesomeness!!! Seriously. This is worth the long movie time.

Azumi (warning. makes Kill Bill look like muppets compared to the sheer blood bath level.) Swords fly everywhere!
Samurai Fiction - quirky odd story telling style. But worth it.
The Twilight Samurai - good thoughtful movie.

As it turns out someone has the full length international version, both parts, posted on youtube.

Just watch the bird for two minutes from that point to get an idea of the scale of the movie.

Anyone remember The Last Dragon? Bruce Leroy and Sho'nuff...

"Who's the master?!"

I loved that ridiculous movie when I was a kid.

Lets go in the opposite direction..

Make them watch "I spit on your grave" OR "Last House on the Left".

"if they knew martial arts, those girls would have been able to protect themselves."

I've seen both the original and re-make versions of those two movies... yikes!

Although the girl from "I spit on your grave" was still pretty bad ass, even without knowing any martial arts.

Have you watched any of them yet? If so, which did you decide on?
We need book reports filed.
