I've gone down a wormhole. At times it was a challenging wank but I got there in the end.

Recently I made this post in another thread:- https://www.ambercutie.com/forums/threads/things-members-say-that-make-you-go-wtf.1605/post-1304833

I've seen this guy multiple times in a room I moderate in, and he's easily dealt with because I'm there with an experienced model and I also have mod privileges if she misses it. However, I keep tabs on what he's saying elsewhere, from a train wreck porn perspective, and he's not just a nuisance but a real danger to new and inexperienced models. He literally spends hours each day with his "I used to be a top ten model I can help you" schtick and models fall for it. He's there in their public chat telling them to change their prices, publicly telling the entire room what their income is and just generally being an ass. And he gets a fair bit of pushback from other users who recognise him from other usernames he's used in the past.

Which brings me to my point. I see so many posts from models (and some users here) who get banned for life from CB. Many of the bans are justified, but I also see members and models get banned and suspended for misunderstandings, inaccurate AI checks, sometimes for weeks at a time. Meanwhile, guys like this can continue their harassment without any consequences because they can just spin up a new grey account. Paying members and models however can't return to their paying/earning status because more stringent checks are in place.

It's a system that seems loaded in favour of those who annoy, harass and abuse.

Surely the sole purpose of allowing grey tier users is to quickly transition them into paying customers. Otherwise they contribute nothing but noise. There has to be some way of identifying and halting these repeat offenders without putting the onus on script developers and plugins, which the model may not be at liberty to use or may find too complex to configure.

Surely the level of interaction for grey users should match the features available to anonymous users, with chat only available for users who have bought tokens.

From the models' viewpoint, not from CB's.

You may not be seeing ads because you are a Supporter or are running an ad-blocker of some kind, but like every other site CB gets paid for showing ads even to grays and anons. (I'm thinking this is an area where CB could/should do some revenue sharing)

People watching CB are not (probably) watching some other site, especially on mobile. CB quickly becomes the norm for them, and in the long run some grays buy tokens when their circumstances change.

If it wasn't for grays and anons most rooms would have zero viewers and some models will start chat with grays just to pass the time.

And don't forget the "Free Chat With Girls" pitch that CB uses to market the site, which is someday going to be recognized as one of the most successful marketing phrases ever, right up there with "Diamonds are Forever".

This right here! When your a new model, it might be challenging to think of how your going to pass time or stay entertaining when no one is tipping, but trust me on this... its not. You'll be surprised by how many token holders don't chat or tip specifically because your busy interacting with a Grey user. I have had nothing but good things happen since using this setting. Moderation is easier too as most token holders are better behaved. (Most, being the key word)

Wanna convert greys...don't let them chat. Ever. The moderation work is too much effort and the risk now is too great. If they want your attention they will buy the tokens to do it. Also keeps half hearted stalkers at bay. No one wants to pay to harass someone.

I agree that preventing greys from chatting is the obvious, preventative answer, but not everyone is able to do that I guess based on what I can see. My concern is still that these idiots can just do whatever they want without any comeback, which seems wrong in my book. I'm not sure I know the solution either but surely there has to be one.

Everyone can do that. They choose not to do that.

At any rate, the best thing to do is repeatedly hit the report user in the drop down on their user name. Every time. If you choose not to use the available features, that is.

No paying viewer wants to see greys pushing their chat off screen. Hell, we're not even allowed to sass at them without them reporting us. Screw them all.

THIS! IMO they're already spoiled enough by the fact that they're even able to sit in models' free chats for unlimited amounts of time. Back in the day on ImLive if you did free chat, guests only had X minutes to watch you before the site automatically kicked them from the chat. I thought that was awesome.

A few years ago when I wanted to try Stripchat, I figured I'd "be nice" and allow the greys to talk only during my first two weeks, just to help with the awkward silences and to give guys without tokens the chance to get to know me and become "hooked." I thought maybe...just maybe...when the two-week period is up and I've cut off greys from being able to chat, they'll miss the privilege enough to actually upgrade and tip me since they like me so much. :giggle: NOPE! And that "nice" guy ( a grey user) who'd been in my free chat every day chatting with me did return to my chat as a newly upgraded member with tokens. But did he spend any of those tokens on me? NOPE, he sure the fuck did not! I hovered his screen name and saw that he had tokens, but he just sat there lurking...never said a word to me. Now I'm not saying I'm entitled to anybody's tokens, but damn, that shit pissed me off because I should've been one of the first models he'd want to spend his newly purchased tokens on, considering how often he'd been in my free chat.

I've seen greys become paying members but it's rare. Maybe 2 in 4 years.

but the real question is, did they buy tokens for the model that lets them chat or for a model where they couldnt chat at all till they bought tokens ;) I mean even if they spent the tokens on the model that lets them talk it may have been a room that required them to have purchased tokens before chatting that actually motivated the purchase.

Bingo!

And on super bad nights where everyone with a supporter account is trying to PM I change it to users who have tipped me today.

Too many pms going will keep spenders away too, so yes this is the way to do it.

Basically if your not available, your not available to receive tokens. If greys are allowed to chat, you don't look as available and a lot of spenders move on. This is something that you can't realize on your own until you block the greys for a while. Everyone can do this, and trust me, you'll adapt to a new way to pass time or entertain if you even have to as like I said, more token holders will start to chat more often.

edit: my room doesn't even have less people in it as a result, you still get plenty of greys in your room to help with rank or just total viewers in the room.

A long time ago when I used to let basic members talk on MyFreeCams (only because there were like two basic members I actually liked), one of those guys had changed his name to 'rockchasefox' (or 'rockchasesfox'?).

I can't remember if he'd upgraded to a premium member or not (and if he ever tipped me or not), because it was such a long time ago. "The good 'ole days" of cam. I remember him saying he wants to have fruit sent to my house. 😂

Creeeeepy! Ain't nobody giving you their address. Gtfoh. If you truly wanted to be generous, you would buy tokens and TIP, TIP, TIP!

Never seen a person in my life with a "Will work for fruit" sign. Or a "Got fruit?" sign. Never.
Don't get me wrong, I love fruit, but it's not that highly desirable in the grand scheme of things.
No one wants fruit from a stranger.
Even fruit lovers.

A model cannot live by fruit alone.
Exactly, the landlord doesn't take 2 bananas, a papaya, and a bunch of grapes instead of cash.

Honestly I wouldn't even take gold as in literal gold, in lieu of cash. And you best believe I've actually been offered a chunk of gold instead of cash before (on a porn site  ). Be it a very, very small chunk lol

Speaking of pms Bongacams pm's popped up all over the screen. It was so annoying and we missed a private show last night because a grey user was sending pm's.
The Bongacams PM noise is the most irritating sound in the Cam world. Made even more annoying by the fact that the guys who use it seem to send their messages one word at a time. And also their tipping rate never seems to match their yapping rate.

In fairness to the two I've seen, they tip for the model they used to chat to. Not a lot, and not exclusively, but they do it. Although your example is by far the most common scenario.
