This is my first topic, so apologies if this has been asked beforehand, I couldn't find anything on it!

If you had been recorded during a show and the video had been posted to a tube site, would you care, or would you want to know at all?

I'm asking because, during my own research, I decided to hunt down any recorded videos that had made their way onto tube sites (I predominantly used TubeStack). I searched some popular names from MFC, just to see the extent to which their shows had been pirated. Every popular member I searched came back with several videos - for some, there were quite a few.

So I looked through the reporting procedure to see what you would have to do to get these videos taken down. It turns out you need to provide identification in order to do so (to prove you are the model in question), which is some seriously risky business, because I certainly wouldn't want to hand over my details to the webmaster of a porn tube site.

So, if you were unaware that videos of your shows were being posted up on website you may never even come across, would you want to be told about it so you could try to take action in having them taken down? Or would you rather not know, because it may prove difficult to even have your material removed?

I would want to know, for a couple of reasons.

First, if the video is any good, I'm going to download that sucker and put it up on my profile for sale.

Second, I would contact MFC and they will help you get a video taken down from a website.

I think it is wise for models to pay attention to illegally recorded content and have it taken down. It would be nice to say 'out of sight, out of mind' but it's more than that. If it was common knowledge that anyone could just google my name and find hours of recorded content on demand, there would be far less incentive for anyone to buy my videos, contribute to countdowns, or really participate in any way with me.

On the other hand, a lot of those sites have a comments section for videos. That's free advertising. Spam that fucker with your name and how to get to your MFC (or whichever site) profile. And encourage some of your regulars to do the same, I'm pretty sure quite a few of us do that; I know I have on occasion. The only drawback to that is sometimes you have to sign up for the site in order to comment, but it's free porn, so really it's just a matter of whether or not you want to take that risk.

Yes.

YES YES and YES! I have had this happen to me before, and as a bigger girl, I never thought it would. I had to threaten the guy who uploaded it with legal hum drum. He took it down and it was posted on at least 3 sites. I can't for the life of me figure out why someone would want a stolen vid of me. I am just an average girl, nothing to get over excited about.

This has indeed been brought up many times here. While I used to do this on a regualr basis for my friends [search and notify them, NOT post] the vast majority have decided its a never ending battle and have said to just post their mfc nic with it so they can maybe get some traffic generated from it. As for getting the content removed, MFC seems to be the one to notify to get it done. Technically, they hold the copyright and have the weight behind them to make it happen pretty quick.... or at least thats how it was last year.
All in all, being on a sex site like MFC or the throngs of others, you will be recorded by some no matter how wrong it is of them to do so. If you don't want to have your giblets posted for the world to see, then you chose the wrong line of work. Sadly some of the more naive girls don't seem to think this part through before they bare it all.

PS- Its also good to know who is actually concerned and would like to be notified. I stopped simply BC no one seemed to care any more.

I've only ever come across videos of cam girls I'm familiar with twice. The first time I sent the girl the link and a few tokens seeing as I'd watched and um... enjoyed the video, and she was appreciative and asked that I send her a link to any more videos I see of her.
The second time, it was a model who I'd never actually spoke to but I knew of her so told her about her videos being online and her attitude was one of "I don't give a fuck, now go away". So I did.

The one thing I don't like about being recorded is that I'm not getting paid for that content, and under some circumstances no publicity for me is involved.

If I had a problem with people looking at my giblets, I wouldn't be a sex worker that makes money showing my giblets online to sometimes hundreds of people at a time.

Giblets.

If a video of me were posted to another site I would want to know.
Most people who know me personally have seen me in a bikini/mostly naked or completely naked, so I'm not really concerned about them findig me. After all, if they are on a porn site and click the video thinking that it might be me then they are getting exactly what they asked for.

Since I'm not all that popular on any of the sites I do work on, I don't want free content getting out so I would want to know in order to turn it into revenue.

Here's a tip I learned recently, it may be mentioned in another thread. If you have a gmail/google account you can go to your "Google Dashboard", theres a section called "me on the web". With this feature you can monitor anytime your name, email address, etc is mentioned online and set up email alerts. This might help some of you stay on top of pirated info.

Even if it is to be expected in this line of work, if a model wants to attempt to get her videos taken down, she has every right to. I sure would. And plenty of models are successful in getting some of their vids taken down.

You don't HAVE to just sit back and say "Oh well...nothing I can do about it." You can at least ATTEMPT to get them taken down, if you wish.

The argument that "it's free advertising" is a weak one, IMHO. Mostly because anyone, not just cam models would want to maintain control over their own images. You never see companies tell people, "hey, create your own jingles and video ads that promote our product! It's fun and helps us!" This is simply for the reason that advertising is a science and allowing or even promoting third parties to do it can be more harmful than helpful. What if the pirated video showed the model off in a bad light? And you can be sure that if it was a video that made one look ridiculous, it would go "viral" and could end up being a psychological negative.

Advertising by word of mouth is the oldest form organic growth. And actually many companies offer challenges to consumers so that they can be part of their new advertising campaigns. Why do you think promoters are so fond of facebook and twitter for advertising?
I think a good cam model who is able to improve her shows and learn from her mistakes (whatever reasons caused the video to be poor quality/go viral) could probably develop a decent set of fans from the viral video. I've seen a lot of videos of people making an ass of themselves (not cam models) and have looked into who they are because I was entertained by them. IF there is a link to the good stuff then what would keep an intrigued viewer from possibly checking it out?

As it's been discussed here and in other threads, having the videos taken down is often more trouble than it's worth if not impossible. Even if it's poor advertising it's still better than just letting it go or getting stressed over a never ending battle.

Cool, thanks for the great feedback!

I guess it is publicity when you get down to it, but there's some good points either way. Obviously the main concern is the fact that it's free material which would otherwise cost the viewer and fund the camgirl.

I would personally want to know, even if I had no intention of getting it taken down, so that I could use it to advertise myself (should the watermark have been cropped out or it was renamed).
