Sometimes I get a bee in my bonnet about certain things and today it's a formula I can't understand. I've read the Wiki page on Golden Ratio but shortly after the first paragraph I felt my IQ plummeting to somewhere around my breast size. Yes, sadly, in inches, lol.
So anyway here's what I want to but can't understand right now and I need it explained to me as if I am in kindergarten:
"Two quantities are in the golden ratio (φ) if the ratio of the sum of the quantities to the larger quantity is equal to the ratio of the larger quantity to the smaller one."
And the formula for that is simply a+b/a = a/b and i don't understand it. If someone could replace a and b with numbers.. that would help me. If a = 10 maybe b will something around 3 or 4.
I hate it that I can't figure this out.
Background... this all started when I stuck three flowers in a vase this morning and wondered why when my mother does it, it looks like a painting, and when I do it. it looks like 3 flowers in a vase. And I remembered reading somewhere that humans love certain configurations and if you have three of anything, they should be a certain distances in height, something like 5, 8 and 12 but I couldn't remember and I didn't think it was the Golden Ratio or the Fibonacci sequence, then when I looked it up on Wiki I got absorbed in that and now I need to understand it.
