My head bangin' used to be pretty solid back in the day.

But I just could't loosen up enough to get my ear pipes right for this one.

I failed to catch the lyrics, and it felt more like...

Never fear Google's here. It goes like this and works pretty well, 2/3 of the way through.
Why do you have to force yourself with power and control
Why do you have to live your life playing up a role
Intimidating people with your wall of sight and sound
You and your kind destroy our underground

All the happiness you have to destroy
All the brutal tactics that you always employ
All the fucking bullshit when will it ever stop
The comparison is obvious: You're just a fucking cop

Officer - you act like an animal you're out of control
Officer - what the hell is wrong with you?

Wear a tie if you want to wear a uniform
Join the army if you want to conform
Tough guy, big man, do what you can
Whatever you destroy will create it again

Yes, I did add the underscore. I will likely post again when I have read through the rest of the thread. This is one of the things that tends to matter to me, as it has to do with how ppl treat each other, and how power often makes that treatment abusive and vile.

FIFY :p

I was on my way home from my fast food job, so... Covered in grease and baggy clothes.

That does not matter to most men.

First thought- "so, oil show?"

Just recently my friend was driving home late at night where he got cut off by a drunk driver causing my friend to hit the median destroying the rim and his tire. The drunk driver never stopped and kept going, so along with calling the tow truck he called the police in hopes they could use the street cameras to find out who the other car was and go after that person some how. Instead they mailed two tickets to my friend for improper lane change (which happened when he failed to avoid the drunk driver) and destruction of public property (when the drunk driver forced him into the median). So uhhh yeah, fuck the police.

How did your friend know the other driver was drunk?

People lie about avoiding mythical "drunk drivers" ALL THE TIME. It's a convenient excuse when people fall asleep at the wheel and drive over a curb, and other similar situations. "Officer! Thank God you pulled me over! I was speeding to keep up with the drunk driver in front of me! You better run ahead and catch him!"

If your friend is telling the truth, tell him to challenge the tickets in court. Then request the street camera recordings as part of the discovery process.

The lesson learned here is that sometime's it's better to NOT swerve to avoid a collision. And not just in situations where someone else on the road does something stupid. There are countless stories of people who, in order to avoid hitting a 90 pound deer, swerve into a tree and die. If your friend had hit the other car, even if the other car drive away, there would still be immediate evidence of it.

I like hating on cops, but let's make sure we hate on them for things they actually deserve.

I did tell him to challenge it, and he was going to before I even told him. I've unfortunately driven behind drunk drivers before when driving through town, it's quite scary and obvious to spot. Let's say this person was not drunk because I wasn't there and i'm going by what my friend said, then that person is a reckless driver and shouldn't be on the road at all and wouldn't it still be a hit n run causing the wreck and driving away. Either way my friend got fined for being the victim and it'd have been cheaper for him not to get the cops involved- Why would he call the cops if he knew he was at fault?

KNOW YOUR ENEMY Only pick the FIGHT you can win or deal with.
DHS and the BORDER PATROL will treat you (a citizen) as a criminal while assaulting and violating your RIGHT's.
Being an activist or exercising your right's are no guarantee of being FREE from TYRANNY (envisioned or actual) confiscation of your property or destruction of private property.
Hoping for further updates on the outcome from this incident.

handcuffed and 8 hrs in detention and no vehicle upon release, had to call a friend for a ride.
he was able to retrieve his property 21 days later and has consulted with the ACLU on future actions concerning this incident.

DID NOT occur at any US Border, this was an inland (approx 80-100 miles) border control checkpoint.

Amazed how the scare stories of a few coppers can lead many to be "NO NEVER TALKIN TO NO COP NO NEVER!" :P Or you think all Police are bad people and out to get you? It sounds like many view and treat their police with contempt?

If you were treated by others as you treat the police, you'd find those people incredibly rude.

Manners cost nothing and whilst I understand there are bad police, the stereotyping you appear to apply to your Police Force (all power hungry maniacs who abuse positions of authority) is neither nice, nor helpful.

They do a difficult job, and have people trying to make it more difficult by exercising rights simply to be... difficult :D

Thankfully the vast vast majority of Police will rise above all this pettiness in the event you need them. They'll still come, they'll still save your life, endanger theirs, protect you. Worse still... you expect them to whilst still treating them as you do the rest of the time.

Of course there are exceptions, but they are precisely that; exceptions. Here it appears they're viewed as the norm. All the US Police I have met (admittedly mainly at the borders) were very polite and helpful :P The way this thread reads, they'd be exceptions.

Thankfully I know the videos you see on Youtube are most likely the exceptions. Sure, a friend of a friend knows that every cop at the road stop is a psycho from hell. Still, in a large country, they'd still count as exceptions :P Seeing as its localised to an area where it appears the norm it probably reflects more upon the people/attitudes of the area that gets Police like that then otherwise. After all, they're also civilians who grew up in the area and people are shaped by their peers :P

I should add - to be fair it'd be more interesting if that guy who filmed his road stop did it again... but this time was polite and normal.

Compare the two videos. What happened in each, how long it took, how the individuals were treated, what the cops said.

We understand EVERY single cop is not bad, of course. But it doesn't matter to some people. There's a difference between cops and every other profession out there. If a Subway worker gets annoyed with me I will probably get a bad sandwich with not much toppings, but I won't end up in handcuffs in the back of a car while all my personal possessions are being ransacked illegally.

As for the 'make it more difficult by exercising rights simply to be...' statement. You just made me cringe and get depressed all at the same time. If we don't have the option of exercising our rights at any time, ESPECIALLY when dealing with police, then we may as well not have them at all. A right not used is just so much worthless piece of paper in some law book: I dare you to find cheaper toilet paper anywhere.

You have to fight for your rights at every opportunity or someone will take them away from you. Period. Worrying I might upset someone because I exercise my rights will never be a factor in anything I do. If their job gets in the way of my rights they, and their job, can go fuck themselves for all I care.

I didn't say there's anything wrong with exercising rights... I specifically said in order to be difficult. So I cringe at your misunderstanding :P

As for the hyperbole of fighting for rights whenever you can else they'll be removed? I just refer to the bold part ;)

Two ways to look at it :D

1) Cops being dicks.
2) Guy aggravates cops to make the cops be dicks.

Since he had a camera rolling, and concealed, pointing at the window - I'd venture a guess that the guy found out there was a check point, set the camera up, approached it and intentionally decided not to comply to get exactly what he recorded. Kind of set-up, he intended to get a reaction and got one.

The only bits i'd take umbridge with was the dog on the car and obviously the searching. The rest, he sought out a reaction and got one. Whatcha expect :D True, he should have said "no you're not being detained" if they weren't detaining him. But... who cares?

I disagree completely.

The kid was calm and polite, he just refused to knuckle under to an abuse of police power. He never raised his voice or said anything rude, insulting, or in any way out of line. He simply refused to be bullied.

The cop worked himself into a fit of anger ridiculously quickly simply because a citizen dared exercise his rights as a citizen. If nothing else, the cop is extremely unprofessional.

If the cop knew the law as well as that college kid did, and if he wasn't a bully on a power trip, he would have just let the kid go. He was clearly no "threat" to anyone.

I guess we should all thank the cop for at least not planting any "evidence" in that kid's car.

Just been reading all your posts this morning. Nice to see someone else on the forum with some good common sense in several areas.

(and to everyone else, yes. I know 'common sense' means 'agrees with me.')

I agree completely - which is one of those circumstances whereby I never disagreed with the cop being unprofessional or getting worked up. He did. It wasn't right and he should have said (as I've said before, several times) when questioned whether the guy had to comply with anything anyway.

However, the guy turns up to a roadblock with hidden camera pointed to his drivers window. Of course it is your right (if this is going to be what people justify it as) to do so I am sure. And of course having the camera there doesn't excuse the police's reaction... neither are things that I've questioned.

But I did question the guy himself and his motivations. It's called premeditation. Now as I said, this doesn't excuse the cops behaviour one bit. But I do think he went fishing for a response and got one. Should he have? No. But he did, big surprise :D

As questioned, how many times has this occurred and nothing happened, resulting in the video not being uploaded. Video uploaded, you'd think its the end of your civil rights in America with the reaction :P

Here's another one - a cop doing his "job", whilst guys are exercising their rights.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N30TagPCNE4

Is the cop a bad cop? Baring in mind that the guys loaded themselves up with cameras/audio recordings and then wandered around with an AR15 on his back in the open. To me the cop is very very patient and does his job very well... but undoubtedly others may think the guys are standing up for their rights and therefore fully okay :D I think they're a bunch of dicks doing it intentionally to get a response and trying to provoke the cop by questioning/refusing him. Either way, the cop - awesome. The guys? meh.
