Hello, I am new here (signed up about a week ago) and I am not a model but wanted to learn some more about the industry as a whole and how things work and came across this site. Initially I was going to try and promote another site but I have a question instead for any of the users who have the time to answer.

Video email is it something that webcam models would be interested in or is it something they currently use? I realize customers typically go to the webcam site to see and interact with models but do models ever follow up with customers using email or more specifically video email, seeing that video email can provide a lot more context than just words.

Also, the video email won’t be exclusive to any webcam site, it is simply a service that anyone from any industry can use of course but I am specifically inquiring about the webcam market and was wondering if I should pitch such a product to this market.

Thanks.

I have no real interest in it. I always just DM my friends on twitter if I need to ask or tell something. They all do the same as well. I like the DMs, because they are fast and efficient for both of us. Some other people will probably like video email because it is flashier though.

I'm assuming that video e-mail is sending an e-mail with a video attached?

I use e-mail to connect with some members, but more often I use twitter, skype, or the messaging system on MFC. The only reason I use e-mail is if a member needs to send me a large amount of text (a thousand or more words).

I feel that video e-mail would be a huge hassle in a lot of ways. For one thing, it takes time.

Right now I've typed just about a hundred or so words sitting in the dark in my pants. I've got no make-up on, and I've got Taco Bell wrappers sitting around me. If I wanted to make a video e-mail of this message, I would have to set up my webcam, my lights, put on an outfit, put on some make-up, put a stop to everything else going on the laptop (I can't record video while Netflix is running, for example), go to my camming area (Mr. Evvie is playing COD right next to me and that's not good background noise for a personal video) and film a couple of takes. If I'm lucky I'll like the first take... which is great, because I've just spent fifteen to twenty minutes making a video that would have taken two minutes to type out.

Now, if this was a service I was offering (tip me X amount to wake up to a personal video message every morning), that's a different deal. But as far as simple communication goes, it seems like a hell of a lot of work, and I feel it would definitely slow down communication in general. If someone e-mailed me a question and I had to get on video to reply, they could be waiting a few hours until I get around to it instead of having an answer immediately.

I definitely see the appeal, but you would probably have to pay models an additional amount to be willing to do this.

Thanks for the feedback so far Shaun__ and Evvie, yes and no video email is email with a video attached. The service I was looking to promote, you can record your video (so yes Evvie, there would be some hassle involved in making things look good) but when you upload it, you then send that link to your contacts and they click the link to view the video. So the video won’t be inside the email but instead the link would be.

Evvie, you were saying that you would have to prepare yourself and your surroundings for the video which makes sense but would you ever simply say create a video and keep it there and then just send it out to customers who might not have stopped by in a while or create a separate video for frequent customers and send it to them? Or if you were looking to schedule a show of some sort, would you more so just send an email to your members or would you prefer a video email with a preview of what is to come?

Evvie, your last part about paying models to do this. I wasn’t thinking along those lines because I am not looking to integrate the video email into any webcam site. The models themselves would be the ones signing up and using it. However since you brought it up, let’s say a customer was willing to pay you to get a video from you at a certain time, would that make any sense? So let’s say you recorded the video and scheduled it to be delivered at a specific time for one or 100 customers who wanted that, would that be more of an interest?

I am asking all of this because I realize the webcam world is different from a regular mom and pop business that would use such services. So if these are your concerns or ideas, I can have a page specifically focusing on web cam models and another page for everyone else providing the advantages or disadvantages of such a service.

I think that those ideas could have a lot of useful applications. For the most part what you're talking about is commonly done, just without video (I and other models regularly post photo previews of shows and videos) and I know that video previews are already done by some people as well.

I prefer to communicate with members in a more personal way. Even if I send every tipper that night the same photoset out of appreciation, I always include a personal greeting and thank you. Having a video message sent to a lot of people is a really nice idea, and I could even see myself doing it, but I think it lacks a lot of personality that members look for. However, if a model I respected and admired sent me a video link, I would probably be pretty excited - especially if it WASN'T sent by e-mail but by another messaging service. My reasoning for that is e-mails are widely known as a mass-messaging medium. I would be more inclined to believe fifty other members got the exact same video I just did if I received it by e-mail.

That does make a lot of sense. Models, myself included, often sell custom videos and having a non-sexual custom video seems very doable.

Again, however, the mass-marketing aspect is definitely for some models, but personally, not for me. I imagined if I was much more popular it would be of interest to me, so hopefully some very successful ladies will pop in and give their opinion on this.

Yes Evvie, the video email wouldn’t come from your own email but from the service provider’s address, if that was what you were getting at.

Thanks again for the feedback, it is just an idea rolling around inside my head and I would have to spend some time setting up the site, hence why I wanted to get some feedback first.

I will continue to follow up though and get started on the site anyway and then look into the best way to promote it, both the pluses and minuses and see where it goes.
