hello everyone! I'm so so sorry if I'm repeating any questions that have been answered elsewhere, I tried looking but couldn't find an exact answer. If that's the case then just delete this thread, its ok!

I'm super excited about becoming a cam model, and have my heart set on SM. I'm waiting a bit before I register, though -- trying to lose a few pounds first, haha. But in the meantime I'm learning as much as I can about the biz.

I've read most of the basic beginner guides and how-tos but I have a pretty specific question. How does Roleplay work, exactly, in the camming industry? It sounds like something I'd be into, and I understand how it works in a normal setting (with two people actually in bed together) but I'm not sure how it works over webcam? I'd really like some specific examples to help me understand, like a story or two about how roleplay sessions usually play out..that sort of thing. That way I can be prepared for when I do get asked for that sort of thing and don't look like a massive amateur, haha.

I'd also like to know what users usually expect when they take a girl private or exclusive, specifically for Streammate. Do you usually just ask what they want to begin with? wow that sounds like it has such an obvious answer but I'd like to know if dudes just sort of expect me 'to know what to do' or something. What do you, ladies, usually offer for privates and/or exclusive chats?

I would recommend checking out the profiles on SM to get an idea of how things are generally formatted. What has worked for some girls may not work for you. I'd advise going for model status here, to get to browse all the awesome info-packed threads we have!
What I did as far as figuring out what to offer on SM was fairly simple - I started with what I liked and what I wanted to try. From there I read a bunch on the SM thread we have here to gain an understanding of how the site works from the broadcaster's end, as well as from the members' end.

As far as roleplay goes, I personally found it helpful to seek out some roleplay videos online, watch them, and get a feel for what it's like. It's fairly similar to in-person roleplays, just without any physical contact.

Most of your questions will be answered once you achieve model status here, and can begin viewing the awesome threads filled with answers to these and other questions you may have.

Edited for spelling.

Hope this helps!

thank you, that does help a lot! I read about the Models-only forum, I sort of assumed I couldn't get into it because i wasn't a model yet? I don't think I'll be one for another month or two, either, but I just wanted to start learning as much as I can before I get too excited. If I'm wrong let me know~ in the meantime, I have two more questions if you don't mind?

One is a tax question. So, I know Streammate sends out 1099s. Im sorry if I sound really ignorant (I am! haha, I only JUSt graduated college and I've been listed as a dependent this whole time so I don't know much about taxes), but what does that mean, exactly? Is this a form that they mail to you? And if so, will the envelope have the Streammates logo imprinted on it? I ask because I am currently living with my parents as I work at my debt and..well.yeah, haha. Yes, I've done a lot of research over the risk involved, but I would still like to know.

Second, what is your personal experience with this sort of stuff appearing on background checks etc? I've done a lot of research but it all seems to be mixed saying it wont show up because its independent contractor work and others saying it will. thanks again for your time! For a bit of context, I am not *terribly* worried about this, as I am an artist currently doing freelance work and if I can, I'd like work freelance my entire career. The most 'corporate' job I ever really expect to be working (unless something goes horribly wrong, you never know eh) would be maybe to work at a studio as a graphic designer, but even that I'm not too keen on. but i'd still like to know for my own peace of mind.

You can sign up for SM, and not stream, and gain access to the models only section in the meantime.

The first 30seconfs of private on SM is not paid for by the member until over 30seconds has passed. So take your time. Ask them what they're looking for.

Role play is kind of like phone or cyber sex. It's mostly talking but sometimes involves props and costumes.

Ex:
You: hi there! Thanks for taking me private! What were you looking for today?
(I ask that question EVERY time, even if they get the same thing every time, just incase they want to switch it up that day)
Guy: Hi! Can you role play being a student and I'm the teacher?
You: sure can! Just to make you aware, I don't do age play, so this will be a college student.
Guy: cool
You: were you looking for an innocent student to corrupt? Or a sexual student to corrupt you? ;)
Guy: hmmm innocent
You: okay.
Teacher, I know I failed the last test and I really can't afford to fail this class!! My parents are going to be so mad at me! What can I do to make it up?!
Guy: well, see me after class and we'll talk.
You: okay! Well, I'm here and everyone's gone. Do you have extra credit for me?
Guy: yes, I do. Get on your knees.
You: what??? I can't do THAT.
Guy: you can and you will if you want this good grade.
You: but...
Guy: do it and you'll get an A.
You: (get out dildo and start sucking)

Ect.

Just watch a bunch of role play porn or maybe even take a camgirl private and get a show to practice. I'm sure if you asked some girls here and PAID for their time, they would help you out.

If the guy doesn't talk at all and won't answer, I just do a vanilla masturbation show with an orgasm. Usually with my hand or my hitachi.

Get a PO box, put that as your SM address so all mail goes there.
You will have to pay taxes if you make a certain amount of $.
I highly recommend getting a CPA that has experience in sex work.
(I have one in California if anyone wants the number.)
Save your receipts! Things like lingerie, dildos, lighting, webcams, trips to meet other camgirls, can all be write-offs and save you a bunch of money.
Get a large binder and organize your receipts, ALL correspondences with the IRS and your CPA.
I believe they can audit you up to 10 years after the tax year they're looking into, so save that binder for years to come.
If you see yourself working for the government or with children in the future, don't cam.
Most other jobs you should be fine with (though not guaranteed) if you have a stage name.

Whoa! I was way off!! Haha I do not know where my head got 10 years from!
Thanks for that
I've always gone with the theory that 10 years is a good idea just to be safe too. I almost think it use to be different years ago.

And realistically it's nothing to save them anymore. I personally scan in everything. Make pdf copies of all my W-2's, 1099's...every tax form. Keep the pdf copies of my returns. Put everything in my Taxes\[year] folder and either burn it to a DVD, back it up to a USB stick or encrypt it and upload it to a cloud service (or all 3 in reality). I have all my taxes that way since 1998 now in the same file. So I'd personally recommend just keeping them all that way, just in case.

Audit? Bring it on!
Disclaimer- The audit comment was a joke. We be good IRS, right? :mscared
