So, I'm curious. Any models or industry folks been around long enough to give some perspective on how stock market activity affects online sex work? I know we're looking at a unique situation right now in which COVID-19 may keep people at home craving a sense of human companionship while finding it necessary to avoid... actual human contact.

Things are a bit scary out there for everyone at the moment, and I'm sensitive to that. I'm curious what the outlook might be for us cam models specifically. Are we well positioned to ride this out, or are we also going to feel the pinch?

this is a subject for my husband. with his background in economics/healthcare/and tech he has been taking advantage of the stock market. from what i know he's made several thousand the past two weeks. i know dow is dropping, but if you play your cards right, you can make some great money.

he thinks us in the cam industry will be fine. with a lot more people looking to be quarantined in the world and desk jobs might migrate to at home to compensate which will lead to bored, alone, horny, and online at some point. i have a friend who is on day 15 of self-quarantine and she told me she visited a camsite for the first time just to talk to another person. lol

People are at home more, spending less, more opportunity to watch cams, more money to spend on cams.
But some people might end up at home without pay.
Sick people may not want to fap as much.
Maybe the loss of some older clients.

IMOP, The stock market is basically betting. People betting on corona have already placed their bets. Probable as conservatively possible. At this point, people are most likely watching. The market will probable go up, if it's not as bad as expected. And it will go down, if it's worse then expected.

We've already made money in the stock market right now. You just have to have some balls and make good predictions. The sex work industry will never die. If you're a stripper, this would suck. I think we might actually see a boost from this since so many people might work from home while quarantined. It won't last long. Summer is coming and viruses tend to die out when more people aren't as cooped up in office buildings or the home all day. I have my house airing out now since my son had the flu last week.

I trade a lot and I don't keep a lot of money uninvested and next month I have to pay owed taxes plus estimated taxes so the cash that I do have can't be spent on tipping right now I will use it for taxes and to try to take advantage when the market recovers. I'm sure some are shorting the market and still making money but I assume the majority are buying or waiting to buy for when the market recovers.

I don't think a lot of the big tippers are investors but i'm sure a decent portion of them have a tax bill due next month :giggle:

members who are on regularly aren't generally pulling their money out of their saving/investment/retirement plans to pay for that service. I already see an INCREASE in members because the virus scare is keeping people bored at home or telecommuting so they can take a break and do privates. Add that the price of gas will probably drop in two weeks there will be MORE income for members to spend.

With oil prices plummeting and some nations economies relying on the energy sector, you can see a decrease of the amounts of tips from some members from several nations as their currency plummets as compared to the USD.

Short term. It costs more now for them to buy the same amount of tokens as it did 1-3-6 months ago.

Well, all of Italy is quarantined and the CDC is now warning seniors and others with health problems from traveling in tight quarters and to avoid crowds. Shit soooo glad I don't live in a town that is a cruise destination anymore. Their local economy is going to tank not getting those thousands of tourists.

Anywho...
A friendly reminder to constantly wash yer hands folks and stay away from crowds. 😘

SAME. If I was still there I'd be having a hypochondria-meltdown

indeed people tend to stay home much but spending priorities changed as well, of course porn comes "second" on the list primary being rations like drugs (medication purpose not entertainment ones), food, water and stuff like that.

I ask myself some questions as a conspiracy theorist, what if this is just a preview of what is going to come, what if there are "entities" who simply lurk in the dark and take notes, learn, analyze to see countries response, course of action, society's behavior, individual behavior... learn from data and next time when they strike, the damage will be 50x more effective with real tragic consequences.
There's a plan in motion and it seams it is working
1720 - Great Plague of Marseille
1820 - First Cholera Pandemic
1920 - Bubonic plaque, Spanish flue , Galvestone plaque
2020 - Coronavirus.....
2220 - ....
Jumping from 200 to 200 years... there's an obvious pattern which makes a little bit of sense for those who are into "conspiracies" :)
Deviated from main topic but its in range of "speculation" even if in this moments I don't think "how can I make more money out of this unpleasant situation" :)

I keep seeing the idea that this will improve once spring/summer approach, but I'm not sure. With the unusually warm winter we've had, at least in the Midwest, people haven't been as cooped up as we normally are during the winter. In Iowa, it barely snowed or dipped below freezing this year, which is bizarre. The big snowpiles in store parking lots are already completely melted, which is unusual this early - they typically last till May at least. So, I don't know about this improving with the end of winter, at least not in my area.

It’s difficult to say how all this will impact the world. While there may temporarily be money to be made in porn, there may be a point where paid porn takes a big hit in the near future as people’s money dries up.

Small businesses are already being impacted. Downtown Seattle has had significantly less people since companies haveinstituted a WFH policy for those who can.
I’m not saying it’s end of the world, as there’s always fear/panic any time these things happen. But, this is the first time I recall there being talk of involuntary quarantine in the US and other countries have already instituted it.

other countries have already instituted it

Just my 2 cents here, Force, .. And this is totally the right thing to do. Everybody fully supports this. Now, we all know there are crazy heads all around the world who think they can fight the virus with essentials oils, magic gems and, who knows, possible vagina candles, but if docs and epidemiologists tell you have to stop/slow down at any cost the outbreak before it really gets out of hand, putting even further under more stress the already stressed hospitals, the only thing you can do to protect the health of the population is doing exactly what docs tell you to do.

Everybody is called to be responsible for themselves, for others, and even for other countries and the whole world. Rough times require leadership. Especially if you have the clear perception that most of the closest European countries are completely understimating the problem. Also, we have to consider the fact that most of the people are completely fuck*ing idiots so you have somehow to force them to be responsible.

I was commenting the news this very morning with a colleague/business parter of mine who live in Frankfurt, Germany, and we agreed that those 3500 people who gathered in France dressed as smurfs are completely insane and irresponsible. Few days ago in Italy people would still go skiing in the mountains for the week end or chilling at the beaches. Those thing you cannot do during a declared medical emergency. So, flashnews: everything is shut down, you fuckers, and you have to stay at home.

That said, he was all playing cool and telling me that everything is under control and there was no such a problem right now there. To which I replied him that I wish and hope really all the best but he can't really say that, because if you are testing jack shit everybody looks healty and you have low numbers. On top of that, if you sit in your kitchen, take a peace of paper, a pencil, and run your math - just like a finance guy in Germany did - you clearly see that you are only few days behind what is going on elsewhere. Really wish everybody the best and to be and stay safe.

It's stupid, people are still claiming it's being blown out of proportion and that government overreach is happening. I've got two friends who are whining about how they have to cancel their trips now not because they are afraid of getting sick. But, because they don't want to go into quarantine.

I've been self quarantining myself as much as possible, only going out for work and groceries when necessary. Now that they've mandated we WFH, my exposure risk is minimal. But, still concerned of catching it from all the stupid people going out of they're sick.

Won't even get into the mocking of this thing. I get wanting to keep things lighthearted so as to make it not so serious. But, some of it's blown out of proportion.

And WTF is up with people hoarding everything? FFS...

Here in the UK, we had a really big and popular horse racing event (Cheltenham Festival), where it had thousands of people all crammed together, over 4 or 5 days for the day and night.
It's stupid and funny, we all flock to buy all toilet roll and sanitizers, yet we continue to do stupid things like going to these huge events. And of course, people will be drunk, gambling etc so not the smartest or sensible of places.

Yeah, it's stupid. They've banned all events of 250 people or more here. but, people are still going to crowded bars, etc. I don't even like going to grocery stores because the lines are so damn long. I have enough food and such now to last about two weeks. I'm probably going to go insane as I don't plan to go anywhere during that time.

I think even though people are spending more time at home, there will be less time for some cams as many have families. Secondly, many aren't being paid, subsequently there will be less money about and more models online so more variety as well, meaning less people in your rooms as there are more rooms to spread about.

I think unless you are a top model, you will be earning less among this crisis.

The exchange rate from USD to my local currency (AUD) has 'tanked' as well, so I'm unsure if I can justify spending as much on tokens as I have in the past. I am actually considering taking a 'spending' break to see what happens. My gut feeling says its only going to get worse...

Same here. In 2013-2014 when the CAD was almost on par with USD it was great. My last token purchase cost me $1.42 per US dollar. Sadly I am no 'bigshot' spender like I once was, so I will have to modify my 'habits'
I think it is going to get worse as well. :(

But... For any non American broadcasters it is sorta beneficial with their currencies being less. Since payouts are based on USD, even though there may be a slight decrease in tips, the exchange rate will help offset it for them.

Current market panic feels overblown. This is a short-term shock.
This is an asystematic problem, i.e. has nothing to do with state of world's economy. Stock prices will surge quickly as soon as curves flatten as in China.
Asian countries show social distancing (assisted by seasonality in CVs) works. Headlines will worsen as mass testing begins. Before they surge.

Take it seriously. Even though you're low risk. Be an example to the rest. Social distancing is how the curve will flatten, and hospitals don't get overwhelmed.

Next 2-3 weeks should be good for the cam industry.

Keep safe.

The response in my city is hilariously inconsistent. Public schools are closed, but only in the main city, not the suburbs. The high school basketball tournament this weekend wasn't canceled, so we had an influx of people in town. People were hitting grocery stores and stockpiling toilet paper and canned goods, meanwhile malls and restaurants were still packed.

Are we worried or not? Pick one and stick to it! And leave some stuff at the grocery store for people who can only afford their normal grocery shopping and don't have the funds to stock up like you greedy greedy "fill the car with toilet paper" jerks. I didn't buy any because I still have 2 jumbo Charmin rolls and live alone, so that's a 2-4 week supply depending on my IBS, but if people are still stockpiling when I run out, I'm going to be pissed. I was able to get cat food last week, but I'm nervous about this week, because I got in before the "clear the shelves" types got in.

Yep, calmer heads need to prevail. I hit the grocery store over the past couple of days, and the lines are crazy. But, where I'm at, we're way ahead of the rest of the US in terms of what's going on. We've been out of TP here for almost two weeks now. I didn't stockpile. But, took into account that I'm stuck here for at least two weeks. Which requires more than usual due to other times I'd eat out on occasion and use the TP at work. So, it was a little more than usual.

This. My daughters school is now closed, until at least early April. I cammed when she was at school. I can't work now. **trying not to freak the f out**

Honestly, I've no idea. Can't relate because nobody has experienced that here. However, I've read it on the newspaper that toilet paper shortage has been happening/is happening in Us and, if i'm not mistaken, in Uk as well . Bootleneck in the supply chain maybe? Or people hoarding toilet papers? Have no idea. Shortages I can confirm we've been through are those of masks because, as it turned out, most of them are made in China. Not the brightest idea outsorcing masks production and other critical medical equipment in another country. My personal opinion of course.

Luckly, many national businesses in the textile industry, big and small, have stepped in, have been reconverting, and are now somewhere near at a full scale mask and medical clothing production so hopefully we don't need to import those products. The government have stepped in too, fixing a maximux price just yesterday for those maks, because the demand is high so there's business for everybody but it's not like you can sell those mask amid a fucking pandemic, say, at 10 euro each. Antibody tests and covid tests are already develope. I know for a fact that we are sending/selling some of them to US because it was in the news. A possible vaccine is already devoloped and we've sent one, if I'm not mistaken, to Oxford Univeristy, Uk, for human testing. Let's Hope for the best!

On another note the aformentioned german collegue of mine is not playing cool anymore. Also, Germany, in my opinion, has declared "victory" over the virus too soon but is not fooling anyone. I was just here rolling my eyes and shaking my head. Look what's happenig now, the've lifted/ereased a bit their lockdown measures and infections are surgening again. No shit Sherlock! I mean, do you even understand math and science? Coincidence that France is now rethinking thir phase 2 approach? I think not. Everybody's looking at other countries, their success and their mistakes. I'm glad that my country is keeping at least shools closed untill September. Stay safe everybody! DInt' mean to hijack the thread.

I'm seeing a lot of parallels in the news surrounding some not too distant historical occurrences.

If anyone remembers correctly, Russia was poked and made fun of by American media back when they faced their own toilet paper shortage in the 1980's. The running joke now is that you can tell when a Socialist country is about to fall when their toilet paper becomes scarce or virtually unobtainable. Venezuela recently experienced a toilet paper shortage, and look where they are now. The fact this is happening in America right now doesn't bode well for us when coupled with our near 30 trillion deficit/debt figure. Couple this with the fact that China holds several trillion of that debt in tow, along with the origins of Covid-19,....well....it might be high time to invest in having a bidet installed in the house. :nailbiting:
