This total solar eclipse has a quite clear message for those interested in mythology and its link to astrology. The taking of Persephone by Hades fits perfectly with this eclipse.

In older world mythology an Egyptian may say that the tears of Isis are upon the western world; very much the same as saying with a sweep of the lions tail the daughter of abundance has been taken.

It should last for 7 years...7 years bad luck/ mourning: If you believe in such things. It comes as a sign to focus on family, to support women and children, failure to do so will result in a bitter and dry future.

That is my personal take on this upcoming astrological event, for those with a passion for astrology how do you read this coming solar eclipse?

Was just reading this about the taking of Persephone and her relationship with Hades.

Not very romantic, is it? But compared to some of the other women in mythology, Persephone got a fairly decent deal. Not only did she have to spend merely a portion of each year with her husband and was closer to his equal than Hera ever was to Zeus’, but Persephone also married one of the few gods who was faithful (save for a few unfortunate incidents with nymphs). Hades loved her, and according to some versions of the myth, she loved him back. In the end, with that sort of love so often taken for granted in Greek mythology, maybe Hades wasn’t such a villain after all. His methods were heinous, and no one would blame Persephone for hating her circumstances. But considering women were oftentimes considered to be nothing more than property, at least Hades loved her.

...btw in the myth as in the astrology of that region of the sky, there are strong elements of duty within it which may be a more philosophical way to express it.

For those of you that get to experience the total eclipse, it is quite an eerie and unique experience... make sure that you take advantage of it.

I personally don't put much faith/interest/hope/whatever into astrology, or the like. It is interesting to see some of the different perspectives of it, such as the number of times the Earth was supposed to end yet still lives on.

I actually have a strong scientific background, but really enjoy the stories and symbols used by past cultures.

Eclipses always bring out the end of the world tragics and historically are always a bad omen/ sign of severe change. I saw a total eclipse many years back, got the telescope out and looked at the Corona, didn't even think about what astrology may symbolize.
For those with a more scientific wonder, I think it is important that they actually feel the experience too.

Same here, of sorts with the background. However, i have studied many older civilizations and always find how they explain naturally occurrin events either supernaturally or divinely. Especially when many of them are very similar, ye they were thousands of miles apart.

What no photo has captured - I'm holding out hope old film camera guys might just come through - is the absolute clarity at totality. Black sphere with radiant corona fire around, in the form of an arrow in my viewing, on a silver, not black, sky in a smooth gradient fading darker. Everything NASA, JPL etc have shared is digital and banding as digital does. Like listening to Bach with a skip in the record.

No, not a holy experience. I can see how it would have been to ancient cultures. I would say I was awed in the moment.

It was pristinely gorgeous.
