How can you go wrong with that?

So, so good. I just had to geek out about it for a second.

I thought it would be great too, but the constant emo whining ruined it for me. Having emotional breakdowns while being surrounded by flesh eating giants is understandable, but I got tired of listening to it.

Yeah, there is a ton of inner-monologuing going on, to the point where time stops so they can get extra dramatic, squeeze out tears, and even throw in huge flashbacks pretty often. I generally don't have patience for that sort of thing, and I don't know why it worked for me this time. It pushed all the right buttons for me, though. I guess my brain just allowed it because watching people being swallowed whole by four-story versions of the Ally McBeal's dancing baby seemed like a fair reason to have an existential crisis.

I'm laid up at the moment, so I'm going through stuff pretty quick (when I can concentrate on it.) Just gave my day to Deadman Wonderland. What a waste of a day. Not a single likeable character, and a story that's convoluted and tedious at the best of times. I just kept powering through episodes, watching people smack each other around with their blood (don't ask) hoping that things would eventually click into place and make sense. That never happened. By the last episode, I was just angry.

Avoid it if you can, folks. You've been warned.

Lately I've been all nostalgic and binge watching my first anime loves Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! (it even rekindled my love so much the hubs and I bought a bunch of cards and now have 2 functional decks) but here is a list of the ones I've seen that I can remember the titles for

InuYasha
Vampire Knight
Blood+
Naruto ( I know, I don't make good choices lol)
Sword Art Online
Dragon Ball Z

Basically a lot of the late night TV or the ones on kid TV lol I'm slowly starting to branch out, but first, there are 800+ Pokemon episodes that need watching and 3 more seasons of Yu-Gi-Oh!

I've chosen Death Note in an attempt to cleanse my palate from the bad taste left in my mouth from Deadman Wonderland.

Death Note is on my list of things to try, let us know how you feel about it :)

The deducing abilities of the main characters in Death Note make Sherlock Holmes look like a reject from the Police Academy movies, and their plans make Professor Moriarty look spontaneous. Still I enjoyed reading it.

Some of my favorite anime:

Hyouka - which can't be seen via strictly legal means in the US. It's somewhat meta. Some see it as a slice of life anime, others as a mystery, and others still view it as an analysis of the mystery novel genre with the four main characters all being representative of character archetypes in detective novels. (Only subbed, and fan subbed at that.)

Haibane Renmei - You can catch this on Hulu (if you're in the US) for free. If you can get beyond the somewhat dated animation and slow pace, the story is pretty intense. The major themes are sin, redemption, and forgiveness. Pretty sure this is only available subbed, though I know for sure it was dubbed. Maybe the dub is available on funimation.com

Nagi no Asukara - Slice of Life/Romance. The themes are immigration, racism, and fear of the loss of national/ehtnic identity -- all topics extremely relevant in modern day japan given what's going on with their birth rate. Some romance/love triangles. This is available for free (with commercials) on crunchyroll.com

Durarara is also solid and can be seen on Hulu and Crunchyroll (again, in US) for free. The series follows the lives of a variety of different people in 'color gangs' a modern day Tokyo. It's a cross between an action/slice of life/paranormal anime. It's pretty light and not as heavy as the previous stuff.

My favorite anime this season is probably Kekkai Sensen (Blood Blockade Battlefront). This is more in the mold of Durarara in terms of being light and fun, though it does touch on the immigration/racism theme as well.

I liked a lot of the series you folks have already mentioned, but I thought I'd toss some of these that haven't been mentioned out there. If anyone wants some other recs, hit me up.

I'm definitely forgetting a lot here, but some of my favorites are: Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Gurren Lagann, Baccano!, Madoka Magica, Attack on Titan, Vampire Hunter D, Darker than Black, all of the Studio Ghibli movies... and I'm a HUGE Black Butler fan, but mostly in terms of the manga! ;) The series, OVAs and musicals are worth a watch, but my heart is definitely in the manga storyline.

I've been meaning to watch Last Exile and Kill la Kill for a while. Other than that, I'm kinda out of the anime loop lately, so the recs in this thread are pretty great.

I love anime way too much and have a ton of favorites, but my top 10 (in no particular order):
YuruYuri
Mirai Nikki
Girl's Bravo
Heaven's Lost Property
My Little Monster
Sailor Moon
Mew Mew Power
He is My Master!?!
InuYasha
Ouran High School Host Club
Digimon (the original, but I also really liked the other versions)

I have so many more that are on my list to watch but ugghhh it's so hard to keep up with them all T^T

When it comes to watching Anime I feel as though there is only so much that interests me.
But then again I have watched a few that I thought I would never watch and liked them So I guess
Having the time and being about to discover new anime would cause me to watch it more. But I have to say when I do watch it and it ends Im like "What now is there more", but there never is. :-(

Here's a few that I have watched:
Initial D (My Favorite)
Bleach
Trigun
Death Note
Shin Chan (dont know if its anime but it was funny)
DragonBall Z (bits and parts -would like to watch it all at some point)
Full Metal Panic

I believe that's it, Always looking for more though.

Best ongoing stuff, IMO:

Shokugeki no Souma - Like that Stephen Chow movie God of Cookery but with even less clothing.
Gachaman Crowds - Really interesting ideas about smart tech, social media and crowdsourcing. Very few Gatchaman.
Assassination Classroom - Story centers around the best joke in the series, which is that the godlike worldkilling Cthulhu-creature is actually a very effective educator. Also worth watching for the other jokes.

If you're into sexy nonsense, these are great...because what anime fan isn't into that? :p Seriously the first one I watched, just because of the panties on her head. Was not disappointed. It is hilarious, and she's awesome if not slightly psychotic in the best sort of way.

LISTEN TO THE WOMAN. EVERYONE NEEDS TO WATCH SHIMONETA, STAT.

@myrrha Yeah after getting caught up on it...I posted it on my twitter too. I think that might be the first anime I'd make anyone watch if they were going to watch anime. Great way they go through the concept, and it pretty effectively displays all normal anime qualities XD

Here's the link to it if you wanna check it out ^.^

I've watched no where near as much anime as I feel I should have lol maybe this will change once I get a laptop so I can watch some more with my computerless friend who enjoys anime when I go over to his place. Anyways here are some of my favorites and stuff that I want to watch.

Favorites:
- Sailor Moon
- Card Captors
- Death Note
- Cowboy Bebop (series)
- Spirited Away... actually pretty much all of Hayao Miyazaki's films
- Perfect Blue
- The Girl who Leapt Through Time
- Paprika
- Attack on Titan
- Akira

Want to Watch:
- Neon Genesis Evangelion --> someone help me out here would it be alright for me to watch the movie first then the series if I like it?
- Princess Jellyfish (series and movie... apparently a movie for this came out recently)
- Paradise Kiss
- Millennium Actress --> because I really liked Perfect Blue
- Steins;Gate
- Cowbow Bebop: The Movie
- Dragon Ball Z movies... probably the only anime I can get my boyfriend to watch with me lol
- I've also heard that Berserk is pretty good, I'm sure I'm missing a bunch here.

I'm mostly into older anime and movies over series, any of you guys have any recommendations for me? :3

I don't know if it is Anime because it is sooo old, but I was/am a fan of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (in the US it was Battle of the Planets). I do have the dvds of Gatchaman but grew up watching Battle of the Planets on Saturday mornings. The US version (Battle of the Planets), in my opinion has better voices for the characters but the Japanese version (Gatchaman) has a better, less censored, story.

I'm glad Fruits Basket is on a couple people's lists! It is probably my most favorite anime of all time and I'm really into action orientated shows and movies. It's just a great feel good show and it always picks me up when I'm feeling down. The english dub is amazing and funny as hell! I've been trying to get my sister to watch it but she has a stigma towards anime thinking that they're all about tentacle porn :grr: If I can get her to watch the first few episodes I know she'll fall in love with it and probably be more open to watch other anime as well.

I also like:
Monster: Great horror and psychological thriller about a "brilliant neurosurgeon living in Germany finds his life in utter turmoil after getting involved with a psychopath that was once a former patient". It's 74 episodes long but it's very engrossing and the english dub is good too.

Planetes: Sci-Fi drama about a team of space debris collectors and their adventures in space. The show is much deeper than the tag line I described haha it explores the social underpinnings and consequences of human ambition and technological advancement.

Ranma 1/2: I only recommend watching the 1st season (english dub)! It is HILARIOUS! Trust me!

Zipang: A modern day Japanese destroyer mysteriously goes back in time to 1942 and tries not to interfere with history. It's very simple but it was very fascinating to watch.

Grave of the Fireflies: This is another anime I'm trying to get my sister to watch I just know she'll be very impressed and cry her eyes out after watching it. I certainly cry every time. I can only watch this movie like once every 2/3 years though.

Well it looks like I'm more into dramas than I originally thought :p I really do prefer action orientated shows like Naruto & Naruto Shippuden, Blue Gender, FMA, Attack on Titan, etc. Other than Naruto I'm not currently watching any anime. I want to though, maybe more so movies than shows at the moment.

Rosario Vampire was the first anime I fell in love with. Cheesy, funny, perverted :shame:....it's easy to watch (the story line is pretty simple).

Steins;gate is my 2nd favorite. It has a GREAT story line, mystery, comedy, and the ending is solid. You've gotta pay attention though...it's a great one to watch again!

I've not watched a lot but the standouts so far are:

Attack on Titan - awesome. Hear new series next year? If true, then great!
Full Metal Alchemist - my first, and probably still the favourite. Not watched Brotherhood yet - intentionally watched the original as apparently doing it this way around you enjoy both. If you watch brotherhood first then it spoils watching FMA.
Death Note
Silver Spoon - liked this a heck of a lot despite being completely different in type to any of the before mentioned.
