I'm not too fond of things that intentionally hurt people. But unintentional, that can be funny.
Something that everyone knows is stupid, but someone goes and does it anyway. (not something that's been overdone, but something unexpected)
Things that poke fun at stereotypes are a favorite of mine. Especially things that poke fun at political correctness. (ie when the politically correct wave first became apparent to me, I love reading "politically correct fairy tales." And in the early 2000's, my church changed the note on the door from "alter boys" to "alter persons". It was generally understood to be a joke.)
Mistakes are generally funny, as long as the person who makes it is willing to laugh with me. (This includes my own mistakes.)
If you get the chance, go to youtube and search "stand-up comedy". That will give you a wide range of comedians.

Eddie Murphy Bill Cosby Chris Rock Louie Anderson just to get started.
A couple of others That aren't around anymore are George Burns Bob
Hope & Redd Foxx.

I find bad horror movies quite humorous. My over all sense of humor is dark and at times completely inappropriate. It is people's udder disgust and reaction that I am looking for when I tell these jokes. Example, I would go to one of those Super Duper WalMarts and buy 2 Badminton raquets and a couple real parakeets just to see how the cashier would respond. Drowning babies, putting them in microwaves, and eating girl scouts are all in my joke bank. Also South Park's OFFEND EVERYONE style is funny to me, but I think it is wrong to use those jokes in person.
A rational examination of what is funny is not at all funny and therefore pointless. So to illustrate what i find funny some examples.

I find it humorous when chicks try to think up something supposedly hurtful and have it win a "battle" they invented.
Granted it's also funny when it works.
But it's more funny when they try so hard and it doesn't.
