The SA may have their own theological positions, but I wouldn't consider them bigots.
I find this amusing because SA is commonly the abbreviation for the Sturmabteilung, paramilitary wing of the nazi party and forerunners to the SS, and they were most certainly bigots

Is the Salvation Army funded by the Catholic Church? If so, you'd expect the to have Catholic ideals.

Now, Catholic Ideals are: xyz are sins, but don't hate the sinner

Catholicism states that intercourse between two members of the same sex is a sin. It also states that intercourse outside of marriage is a sin. I think the latter has more to do with making sure that inhertiances go to the right person. Back when it was passed from father to son, the only to make sure his son was really his son was to be certain that the wife wasn't sleeping around. And since it was firstborn, she'd better not have been sleeping around before they got married either.

Nah they're not Catholic, they're funded by donations - and they're protestant or something. Basically they are church, so no other church funds them.

I'm not a religious person, but their mission statement sums up what they do. http://www.salvationarmy.org
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God.

Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in his name without discrimination.

That's rich considering
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Salvation_Army#Homosexuality_2
The Salvation Army in the U.S. has been the topic of some controversy about alleged discrimination against homosexuals in their hiring practices.[35][36] The New York Times reported that the Salvation Army believed it had a firm commitment from the White House to issue a regulation that would override local antidiscrimination laws. A disclosure of The Salvation Army's request "outraged some civil rights groups and lawmakers," and resulted in an immediate reversal of a previous promise to honor the request.
The Salvation Army maintains that they were "not trying to get permission to discriminate against hiring gays and lesbians for the majority of its roughly 55,000 jobs and merely wanted a federal regulation that made clear that the charity did not have to ordain sexually active gay ministers and did not have to provide medical benefits to the same-sex partners of employees."[37]
The Salvation Army's position is that because it is a church, Section VII of the U.S. Civil Rights Act of 1964 explicitly guarantees its right to discriminate on the basis of its religious beliefs in its hiring. To reinforce its position, it threatened to close all soup kitchens in New York City when the city government proposed legislation that would require all organizations doing business with it to provide equal benefits to unmarried domestic partners.[38]
In 2001 the Salvation Army sought a change in distribution regulations for the $24 billion in new federal grants and tax deductions for charitable institutions requested by President George W. Bush.[39] The alteration would have denied funds to state and municipal governments if they imposed restrictions on anti-gay hiring practices such as are practiced within the Salvation Army. Controversy arose after the publication of an internal Salvation Army memorandum suggesting that the discrimination provision would be allowed in exchange for the organization's support of the Bush faith-based public works program.[39] Matt Coles, director of the American Civil Liberties Union's Lesbian and Gay Rights Task Force, said the implied deal was "really about... the Salvation Army trying to get a license to discriminate using public money."[39] Ultimately, Ari Fleischer, White House press secretary, who denied the existence of a back-room deal, released a statement saying the administration would not, in the words of ABC News, issue the "regulation sought by the church to protect the right of taxpayer-funded religious organizations to discriminate against homosexuals."

Their hiring practices may be discriminatory, but they are a bible based church and it would be somewhat hypocritical if they promoted hiring homosexuals. Not that the church has never been hypocritical before or anything, lol. Anyhoo, their hiring practices in no way influence who they help with their donations.

The Salvation Army is more than 4 million strong -- including some 3.4 million registered volunteers. Its Christian faith-based programs assist alcoholics, drug addicts, the homeless, the elderly, prison inmates, people in crisis, and the unemployed through offerings such as community centers, housing facilities, and rehabilitation centers. The organization also provides disaster-relief services and operates some 1,400 thrift stores. Overall, it serves about 30 million people a year and provides in excess of 64 million meals. The US organization is a unit of the London-based Salvation Army, which oversees activities in more than 100 countries. US operations began in 1880.

I didn't know they originated in London until now.

Not at all, following laws has absolutely NOTHING to do with beliefs. It's not that they were neglecting to 'promote homosexuals', it was that they sought legislative protection to continue discrimination against already-employed same-sex couples by denying them any kind of benefits - in contravention of laws.

They can believe what they want, when those beliefs turn into defiance of secular law they're crossing the line.

Yep, they have to follow the letter of the law if they are tax payer funded.

Found this on my Facebook. Thought it was interesting.

I saw that a while back and I thought it was absolutely amazing.

I don't know if I remember correctly but I remember watching it with my girlfriend and her best friend and I think he actually made her start crying it meant so much to her.

I can't even begin to imagine how proud his mother's are of him.
