Ok, I want to try approaching this another way. Not so much why do members not talk, but what would get them to talk more? I figure most would jump in if the model or another member said something that the shyer member felt safe commenting to.

Since it's the members who are the quiet ones for this topic, I say let's concentrate on what the modal needs to do. I would say she should fill out her profile with her interests, but let's face it many don't read profiles. I still think it's an excellent thing to do though. Maybe there's a favorite movie/book you can gab about.

I know a lot of models tag ACF to find one another...maybe people can talk about threads they found interesting here.

I think the hardest part for me is beginning conversation. I'm great at commenting to things after it's started, and can keep it going, but that initial bit is so hard.

Bribes

No I don't think most would jump, not every person who's been a basic or guest for years does so because they are cheap bastard, but rather the incentive of being able to "chat with beautiful woman live" isn't something that appeals to them. Even guys that do tip, aren't necessarily interested in conversation. You can't change that.

I'm a big believer in behavioral economics people respond to incentives, you can't get them to do what they don't want to do but you can coax them into making moderate changes.. You've seen a whole thread worth of disincentives to talking. How about provide some incentives for those who do talk?
"Often I just want guys to talk more than tip"
Actions >>> Words.

So when was the last time you gave somebody, content, a raffle ticket, a fan sign, or even just a MFC mail saying "thanks for coming and hanging out in my room and contributing" just for talking? Tweets thanking folks for hanging out don't count. If the answer is never, or its been a while, then your words and your actions aren't aligned.

Lack of feedback works both ways. I have no idea if when I am the only talker or more commonly one of three, if the models would rather I STFU and just tip or keep asking questions and commenting. I've actually had more members thank me for talking than models.

There clearly is no silver bullet topic for getting guys to talk, the collective intelligence of models would have figured it out, and it would be a sticky thread in the model section.

I think the first step is to figure out what you want quality or quantity. Do you want 20 guys telling you how hot you are and asking you to marry/fuck them. Or do you want 10 guys discussing movies, music, videos games and pop culture. Or do you want 5 guys engaged in meaty discussion like at a college dorm. (I know, 20 wtf I just want two guys to say hi..)
Then provide incentives to reward behavior that you want.

If anybody cares I do have some specific suggestion on how to structure this.

I see your point, and know that not everyone is interested in conversation. To those who enjoy learning about the woman they're tipping, or the models who want to get to know members better/make their shows more enjoyable to their members...conversation is a great thing. When I suggested the stumbleupon site, that was my "incentive" generally people wish to comment on things I show.

I agree about the lack of feedback thing. Ever since I admitted that I often claimed camscore was the reason I logged off when I was really just tired of being stared at with no interaction, people helped by stepping in.

For over 2 and a half years once a month (when I was on MFC) I've sent MFC mail featuring pics, and often videos to members who've been there for me. It isn't a club merely a thank you for being there. I do thank everyone for chatting on twitter, but generally do a private dm so it's not like a spotlight on them. I normally don't do anything public like fansigns. I did when I started, but too many didn't like the idea of it since fansigns, clubs, and other things where names of members are shown.

The reason being was because many would get harassed by beggy people after seeing their names not realizing they may have not tipped a huge amount. I thought it was silly since it was only a thank you sign, but after this happened more than 10 times through different member friends I decided it wasn't worth it.

I also know a lot of other camgirls who have done exactly these things. I see comments of stuff they send out. They will have 100 or more people in their rooms and nothing.

I've honestly never had much of a problem with quality of the conversation, as much as the quantity especially in the first two hours on cam. Two hours seems always like the magic amount of awkward time it takes before people start responding, unless by miracle a chatty person appears. I mean I get tipped enough to stay during them, but not chatted to for those two hours. This has gotten better, but it took me admitting that I logged off early from awkwardness to get it better.

It doesn't matter the hours I cam during. I've cammed morning shifts day, evening, nights you name it. People will log into my room and be there for about two hours then chat starts when I'd become mentally drained from trying so long. Usually every once in a while there might be one or two that chat during this time, but since they feel under the spotlight too, I think they feel uncomfortable being the only 1 out of 100 chatting. I've noticed it usually takes two or three chatting before the rest feel comfortable to say something. When conversations get started in my chat it often bounces from one topic to another, being either about something sexy, history tech, food, hobbies, music etc. Everyone enjoys themselves and want to come back after having a time hanging out with people chatting about stuff they're interested in, while getting to watch the sexy chick on screen.

*edit sorry that was way lengthier of a post than I meant it to be

I listen more than I watch on MFC. When not actively chatting, I'm usually multitasking. Doing my own work online, playing video games, or eating frequently. I take naps sometimes too without closing out whatever I had up on my PC, so I can come right back to it afterwards. :shifty:
I suspect this is pretty common. I usually try not to sleep while logged on though, having said that it happens on occassion.

Remember, the members on this forum are probably not representative of the general MFC population. I would guess that most MFC members are introverted guys who think "bewbs bb" is a witty pick up line. Plus, there are 1000+ models online. The member wants to find a model he feels most comfortable with. If a model demands he talks (or acts in a certain way) he's likely to just move on. It's too easy to click Next Model.

When I'm in a quiet room and I know the model wants people to talk, I feel anxious about being the first one. The thoughts in my head are like "I should say something. What if it's stupid? What if no one else reponds? What if she starts giving me the hard sell? etc."

So in the case of no premiums responding to you, open up the chat to basics/guests and pick and choose things to expand on from what they are saying. If that isn't working, maybe open up a new browser, go into your room, and pretend to be a member and start chatting. Anything to get the ball rolling. But don't have an attitude of forcing people to talk (Y'all are a bunch of boring morons). Rather, talk about interesting things that make people want to contribute.

Another idea... Look at the profiles of the members in your room and see what they are interested in. Guys list their hobbies, have pics of their rides/pets/etc, list which music they like, etc. Don't reference that info directly (e.g. JoeMember, I see you like motorcycles). Rather, start discussions which are about those things (e.g. I saw this awesome motorocycle today and now I want to get one). This way you are creating topics which you know at least one member will be interested in.

I've never been a big fan of public chat. If a model interests me, I'll tip to get on her friends list and talk to her in pm. If it goes well I'll take her private, and sometimes just chat some more. I've been known to tip big in the right circumstances, but I'm very selective about which models I'll spend time/money on. Bottom line, I'm not on MFC to chat with other guys. I will talk in public, but I prefer one-on-one conversation with the model.

I don't usually sit in a model's room for a long time without chatting or tipping. If I was going to do that, I wouldn't do it logged in to my premium account. I'd just be there as a guest.

There have only ever been a few models on at a time who I want to talk to, but I've been on the site long enough and done enough lurking to have noticed trends. Things used to feel more relaxed. To be blunt, there seem to be a lot more models now whose attitude is "shut up and give me your money". They're very in your face about demanding tips, and they have no interest in talking to anybody who isn't tipping. If you're not one of those models, it could be those models are poisoning the well for you.

I do tip, but if I notice that a model only talks to me when I tip, I'm gone. Sometimes I'll test this by not tipping for a while, and seeing if she still talks to me the way she did before when I gave her a few nice tips.

The other big change that's happened since I was first on MFC is the trend of models who do nothing but public countdowns. Group, Private and PMs barely exist to these models. I'm not talking about the top ones who have a lot of games, are very entertaining and stay in public. They seem to also do a lot of pm'ing with their regulars. I'm talking about countdowns to bra off -> panties off -> etc. Log on, start your countdown, mess with your phone until somebody tips, if nobody tips start ranting about it and "threatening" to log off, then log off in tears. Those models are doing it wrong. There are a few very attractive models with shitty personalities, and they often struggle on MFC. So one possibility is that your personality sucks. :hello2:

The ones who do it best just seem to log on and hang out, and let the tips happen or not happen. They treat regulars as actual friends, not just token machines. They're not afraid to develop real relationships. Usually they get the tips. The really successful ones obviously put a lot of time and effort into planning games and activities, but I can see where not every model is cut out for that. Hang out and be chill, and look good. Talk back to the people who talk to you. That's the right recipe from what I've seen.

To put it in a more specific point: no matter how frustrated you get over not being tipped, do not ever say it on cam. If you tweet that you're going to be on cam and you have regulars who show up to see you, do not log off after a short period of time because you're not getting tipped enough. You will lose those regulars. Don't jerk people around. Don't rip people off. Don't be too stuck on yourself. Be real, unless being real for you means being a shitty human being, in which case you should stick to sites where the only thing that matters is your looks. :hello2:

I should make it clear that I wasn't specifically referring to Loona or any other model in this thread. "If the shoe fits..."

I enjoyed reading the MFC member comments on this thread. Made a lot of sense. As for the model comments, I get it. Both parties make good points. I try to do my best to have fun and chat to every single person who speaks to me in my room. Tipper or not. As a camgirl I try to see things from a members point of view as I feel members should do for us. However not everyone is going to have that mentality, unfortunately.

The awkward silence for us is real. We fear you feel it too, but most likely you are feeling your boner and we are just thinking too much into it. Although I hear comments made from MFC members sometimes about girls being boring etc. and that is all can think about sometimes in those moments. OMG I AM BORING!!!! Hahaa! When no one is talking and your a lower camscore model and you don't have 100 people or more in your room we see you come in sit for a second or a few minutes and then leave. All I can think sometimes is they didn't even really get a chance to actually see who I am and they hit next because my room was boring and no one was in it or no one was talking.

It is frustrating.

I have my wonderful nights though so all in all I cant complain. I went though a phase where I did and since I have been back part time on MFC my whole attitude on letting it get to me on bad nights has vanished. I just want to have fun make friends enjoy my time on MFC and allow my genuine want to interact shine through.

Am I hear to help make my ends meet of course, but do I consider MFC and the people I meet a real part of my life? ABSOLUTELY! So I brush off the silence smile and push on.

Trust me girls a good attitude goes a long way not just in your cam room, but for your own mental state.

a big part of my "show" on cam is my energy i am constantly moving or talking, i am loud and i have a filthy mouth ...... i curse a whole fucking lot. but it is very very hard almost impossible for me to be that energetic if NO ONE WILL TALK TO ME! i mute the guests cause they are mostly trolls. i keep the basics un muted they keep the conversation going that is how they help me. if one wants to give me shit i will ban that fucker into a 6 hour time out. and if they come back just to do it again i will ignore them.i will say how ever that my main guys the ones that come in and come in often they do TIP. and they do TALK!! also when they don't talk to me i can not get a read on them. there have been times that i directly asked them "what do you want to see? if i were to make a new vid what would you want it to be about?" hell even my basics have given me ideas. i love it!!! that is the most frustrating about of the NON TALKERS. if you don't tell me what you want i can not fucking give it to you. as much as i pretend to read minds i cant.

I'm a shy, fairly socially anxious guy. I'm not likely to be the one to start a conversation at parties, and will rarely jump into an active conversation for fear of drawing unwanted attention and feeling trapped or pressured to perform. Public chat is pretty much the same for me. In an active room I'll usually come out of my shell eventually if the topic's interesting, but in a quiet room I'll often move on if I feel too much (real or imagined) pressure to converse.

The biggest thing that helps me get talking to a new model is if she's physically doing something unusual and non-sexual that piques my interest. Art, music, hula hooping, gymnastics, cooking, wearing a strange costume, etc. In quieter rooms I've seen models tell long stories or jokes or even read books out loud to the members, which is a great ice-breaker. Direct questions to the members are always good. If the model's doing something unusual and sexual it will often attract my tips but not my voice.

If the model has already caught my interest, I'm likely to read her profile and take a peek at her twitter. If she expresses some non-cam interests there, that makes conversation a lot easier.

As a return visitor in a quiet room, I've had models call me out with a direct "Hi, Ramblin!", which will at least get me to say hi, provided I've got sound on and adjusted. (MFC so needs good audio normalization)

...and of course there are times when I'm just not there to socialize, but rather to tip for and enjoy live streaming porn, in which case the hands are probably otherwise occupied.

I cannot speak on this topic for members alone, but I can speak as a model/member.

When I enter a girl's room, if she is not: 1. Doing something that turns me on. 2. Talking about something that interests me. 3. Blasting good music with decent sound quality. 4. Camming from a crazy environment (Library, Park, ect.), then I will not want to hang in the room.

These are things that make me want to be in a room, and I bet they aren't too far off from other member's desires as well. HOWEVER, getting me to want to chat in her room is very different. I only want to talk in a room under one of these circumstances and that is if she, herself, is talking about something that interests me. I don't see the other situations as necessarily warranting conversation quite like the model herself talking does. I mostly just want to passively watch any 'show' that she is putting on.

And I never quite realized how amazing my regulars are for talking when they'd probably much rather just be sitting and watching. It really is amazing of them to do that for me, and any other model who has guys that never fail to talk to them when shit gets weird. I do think my copious amount of coffee before logging on has something to do with keeping the convo going, but otherwise, the guys in my room are really doing me a huge favor when they volunteer subjects and respond to my bullshit.

Anyway, from my time watching camgirls (And it's a LOT of time I've spent) I've learned to never stop talking. Those are the girls who hold my attention, the ones who rattle on with story after story. And everyone has different preferences. My suggestion is to talk as much as possible, and make them shut you up with their tips if they want silence.

i second this. that is how i figured out my "thing" one member kept giving me tokens to drink more coffee. mind you did not sleep that night but boy did i have a fuck ton of fun!!!

When I used to perv on the PlayboyLive site, one model always said, "Okay Guys have at least one hand on the keyboard." :) It was a good icebreaker which I sometimes use on MFC when I see the room is quiet.

It's not easy for me to see a model struggle because only a few guys says a word.

I am one of the models that have a hangout vibe, I enjoy conversations and feel really awkward when it's quiet. I found just singing to myself or even talking to myself about really random things helps and there is always someone who takes pity on me and starts talking and then the ball starts rolling and more people join it. But I do have awesome regs who even when they can't tip come in and keep me company with their randomness! Having a good bunch of regulars is what makes the difference I think, I seem to get less of the whole 'open bobs bb' and more of the actual conversation guys.

However when I perv on my member account I like to stay quiet unless the room is quiet. I always tip and let the model know who I am but I don't want to take attention away from their regulars or other people. Sometimes its easier to join into a conversation and other times I guess its just weird and makes me feel a bit awkward. I can't multitask tipping and perving and talking to save my life.

After reading all answers, may i, please, ask, you, guys talk a bit more in public chat?
If it is just simple "hello, how are you" models would appreciate it, it is much better than room full of silence.
I always at least say hello when I enter a room and hope the other quiet guys do the same but keep in mind that some guys don't really want to talk. Off topic but if a guy is tipping but not talking, don't try to force him to talk or bug him every time he tips. Some guys like to just chill and watch and would rather tip instead of adding to the conversation.

I'm a bit weird in that I scored 32/50 on the autism quotient test (33 needed to be autistic), so I don't like girl's that talk a lot in their rooms (as opposed to type chatting). Girls blabbing on and on into a microphone about themselves is very annoying to me. Needless to say, I hide cams from North America, UK, Australia, etc. and go mostly to East European girls' rooms.

When I want to chat, I'll pick a girl that doesn't have many members and few chatting. I feel much more comfortable with that. I also chat a lot more in PM than in the main room. It's the girls that open the PM, not me. That said, I truly enjoy chatting with my regular friends on MFC, and unlike what some have said here, I ask the questions they feel they can't: What's your name? Where do you live? Where do you study (and what)? Do you have a BF/husband? What's your day job (if any)? Did you get any this weekend? Etc. We talk about all kinds of personal things.

Of course, expectations and comforts differ drastically between extreme introverts and extroverts.

Do your friends want members who will chat or paying members that chat? I know that there are freeloaders that will just be a waste of time but if you or your friends insist on muting every basic or "freeloader" on a social chat site then exactly who is to blame when no one is talking to the model?

Models have other reasons for blocking either guests or basics. I used to keep everyone unblocked, but too many guests were dropping the n-bomb every single day. If someone calls me a bitch/whore/slut etc, I am just a few clicks away from not caring, but when someone starts using racial slurs that would be highly insulting to another member, that's when the behavior has gone too far.

Also VeronicaChaos made a really good point, for safety purposes it's better to keep the free groups from talking. Doesn't matter how much you end up making from new regulars, it's probably not going to be worth the privacy risk of someone revealing a real identity.

I understand where members are coming from when they mention they're too shy just to jump into a conversation, or feel too much pressure to say the right thing and would rather watch quietly, or those who simply haven't thought of anything to say to contribute to the conversation the model is engaged in. I totally get it.

I think most models would agree that there's a balance we aim to achieve. We don't expect every person who chats to tip, and we don't expect every person who tips to chat. I have a handful of members who always try their best to be chatty and keep me talking, and even if they never tip, they add value to my room and make me feel fulfilled. So long as those who are sitting there completely silent every single day chip in a few tokens whenever they can afford it, balance can be achieved.

With less accountability comes more freedom and rudeness, in my experience. Guests and basics don't have the same accountability as a premium, because they haven't invested anything at all. They don't have a name that could get spread around the community as "being a jerk." At least premiums have their $20 that they lose out on if they join up specifically to troll a certain girl and get banned immediately. The phrase "nothing to lose" means a lot in this situation. The less they have to lose, the more of a dick they can be without consequences.

Thus, guests/basics are muted 100% of the time in my room. I also think it's more fair to the premium members to mute those that haven't spent a dime. Since guests and basics are able to sit there muted and watch full fledged cum shows on other members' dimes, at least they cannot speak. There has to be SOME differentiation between people who've paid their way in and those who have not.

I think the worst part is saying goodnight because no one is talking and suddenly out of the woodwork, everyone is there with idle chat to keep me there. Where were you when I was awkwardly floundering? Just waiting for me to explode?
Extremely awkward when this happens with tipping, too. Officially decide to call it a night and cancel a countdown, then a handful of people toss a tip. What to do then? Aside from panic because you still want to leave but feel bad about doing so, now.

In my personal opinion it depends who is tipping. Some may be saying good night, others may be using it to keep you longer... at which point surely consistency is key?

If you want to go, then go. Why? Because they'll learn to tip earlier. If you stay.... they'll learn they only need to chuck a couple of tokens when you're about to go and meanwhile hope others fulfil the topic (you can exploit that, kinda).

Whichever it is, as long as i know the outcome before hand... i couldn't get pissed/upset/annoyed about it :D

Ok I'm probably going to be dismissed or mocked or whatever, but I have been streaming on Twitch lately, mostly with no viewers, but occasionally I'll have 2 to 5 viewers and often they just sit quietly as well. The awkwardness of it can be frustrating for sure.

Something I started doing, even when I have no viewers, is talk to myself. Out loud. Like a full blown conversation like a crazy person. About anything. My day, the weather, what I'm doing in the game, the ripeness of a banana. Anything.

I tend to get two different results:
1. Viewers just join the conversation with their opinions, stories, etc.
or
2. They say "Are you having a conversation with yourself right now?"
And a new conversation has started.

If it feels like nobody is paying attention to you, pay attention to yourself and somebody will join.

Yes this! (and I'm very quick to mock when I perceive that mocking is due and I don't think this sentiment is "mock-able" in the least!) I too have felt the icky creepiness of a silent room and this is precisely the method I invoked: Fake It Till You Make It. Also, a model in a room that's benefiting from more than a half dozen premium viewers also has the very "easy out" of pretending to be responding out loud to private messages to spur conversation (obviously the same principals would apply to you on Twitch, you could always claim to be having a ball chatting randomly with someone in PM and others will be attracted to that energy)

This is a prime example of why it takes more than a pair of tits jiggling on cam to make it as a cam girl. You've gotta be able to get creative like this and have enough confidence to talk to a blank white screen in this scenario.

What I do instead of fake a conversation with an invisible chatter: I ask the room a question, then answer it myself immediately. And I'll try to continue to rattle on about details of it, or let myself go on a tangent from that until at least someone else jumps in with a comment.

I think I scare most people from talking haha. They come in and hear my heavy metal and they're like what the hell is this chick listening to? That, and the fact that I come off as a sarcastic jerk face sometimes.

Yes, it is VERY frustrating sometimes when no one is talking. If I have been talking and trying to get conversation going and no one has anything to say I just tell them I'm going to start doing other things until someone wants to chat. I will literally whip out my textbooks and start doing homework on cam. I use to complain about the lack of chat a lot, but then I just got into the mindset of I'm not entitled to have people chatting in my room. I know this might come off as a little harsh, but just because I get on cam doesn't mean I deserve to have constant conversation and tips. Thinking like that has just made me appreciate even more when I do have great conversation. I don't know if I explained myself clearly. I'm really not great about organizing my thoughts into words.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, silence happens. I don't think there is a sure way to get around it. I'm going to stop now before I just completely don't make any sense

When I first started on MFC, I rarely talked and basically just hung out in models rooms for background entertainment. I would always be multitasking (reading, surfing the net, or playing a game), if a conversation sounded interesting I'd jump in and talk a bit then go back to using the chat as calming background noise. I suspect the two largest demographic of users would be this type and the type that is just trying to get off and not interested in talking (granted I would assume they would be the ones that jump into a room when a model is naked and playing with herself). These two demographics are going to be generally very silent.

After awhile the social aspect of MFC began growing on me and I found myself conversing more with the regulars in a models chat and the model herself. The model/room became the primary means to an end for entertainment", rather then a sideshow that improved the primary form of entertainment I was doing at the time.

At this point I think my main issue isn't "not talking enough", it is that I sometimes end up being the member many of you mention that drives the conversation to a halt, or drowns out other peoples conversations. This is where the social anxiety comes in. I will sometimes catch myself doing that and clam up for extended periods at a time, or the rest of the night. It would be one thing if MFC was strictly for hanging out and talking, rather then a site created that provides models a career. The last thing most members would ever want to do is drive other cool members away and impact a models finances. So if a member that is usually chatty is silent, that could be a reason.

As mentioned, it is a lot easier to talk then it is to not. Nothing can go wrong if you don't say a word, but the moment you do, you open yourself up for the ire of the model or other members in the room without even meaning too. Just reading these posts you can see how many pitfalls someone that dares open his mouth can fall into, even with the best intentions.

A final reason I sometimes do not talk is that I'm generally intoxicated when on MFC. Depending on my type/level of intoxication, I will often thankfully spare the rest of the people in the room from my textual presence. I'm sure there is a very small percent on MFC that are in the same boat at any one time.

As someone who is generally a talkative perv, I was thinking of various reasons why I choose NOT to talk in a model's room...

1) The model isn't paying any attention to the free chat
2) I don't have any tokens at the moment
3) There is already a steady conversation going on
4) Its my first time in the model's room and I am still trying to understand the room vibe
5) I can only stay a few minutes, so what's the point?
6) I just don't feel like being witty tonight

This may have been touched on earlier, but it's worth emphasizing that age differences are one simple, structural explanation for not talking. Most models are in their late teens and twenties. I'm....considerably older than that, and my impression is that a lot of members are in their thirties or older. There are so many barriers to communication when that level of age disparity exists. For example, I can't stand the music that most of the younger models have playing in the background (though a few play 60s and 70s rock, which is always nice). A lot of the chat (by models and members alike) consists of memes and pop cultural allusions that mean nothing to me and go right over my head. And of course, the barrier works the other way: my cultural history and knowledge are often unfamiliar to young people.

I don't really see this as a problem; generational barriers are just a fact of life. While IRL it's often necessary to try to overcome them, on MFC, it's feasible to just set all of that aside and enjoy it in whatever manner suits your interests. That might include keeping any conversation brief and perfunctory.

Most of the time I'm busy or distracted with something else. I'm guilty of shutting the video off and going into a Google or YouTube black hole if I really don't have anything to contribute to the conversation. I really just need to leave the room so it doesn't seem like I'm sitting there starting at the model.

some models expect you to tip to chat or at least come across that way.

some models are quite trigger happy with the ban too. if you dont chat you are less likely to get banned.

some models are just too busy with pms and i give up chatting with them.

some models even if you chat say hi etc etc they ignore you

some models just sit there

lots of reasons why members dont chat. each member is unqiue and there experience of mfc is going to be unique too. i think this is highlighted by previous posts.
