Would you recommend I go for it (trial)?

I can't believe this will be my first post in the Video Games section.

Anyway, I'm talking about the WoW 10-day trial. For someone who doesn't really play MMORPGs all that much (the last time I played one was about 5 or 6 years ago and even then I didn't get very far), should I at least check it out to see if it still be worth my time to try out some WoW?

I would say yes if you're into fantasy games. Yes it's an MMORPG, but there are tons of different MMO's out there. WoW as I'm sure you realize deals with a huge fantasy aspect that some people just hate. Trolls, magic, dragons, etc. I personally LOVED the first trial I did. That was like...4 or 5 years ago. Was hooked instantly. So yeah, go for it. What do you have to lose?

I've been going back and forth about giving WoW a try ever since we upgraded from dial-up, but I've never taken the plunge because I'm not that big a fan of multi-player gaming in general and I'm afraid that if I did get passed that hurdle that I'd get hooked and waste away or something

i thought about WOW and also considered neverwinter Nights 1.
WoW cost me say $10 a month. For about $15 (i bought it 2nd hand) i bought NWN1 and both expansions.

NWN has multiplayer. It has many more realms than WoW. It is more precise in combat. The people online are way more mystical and intelligent than WoW (and nicer) and journeying in nwn is a truly magical adventure passing thru many lands.

WoW to me is... somewhat generic. Also in WoW u need to level grind. In NWN u can go to max level instantly if u wish get ur own custom look and items and go out and adventure anywhere and still expecta huge challenege. Especially in team pvp.

WoW has nice gfx but for nice gfx i wud opt for SilkRoad Online - which is totally free and has the best gfx of any rpger game i know.

MMOs are just like cam sites. They're online communities. The other stuff is just detail. If you find a decent group of people who are fun to be around, it doesn't matter so much what game it is. It's all about the people you are with. I'd still be playing Aion if the folks in my guild were still around, or WoW if my guild hadn't gotten to be a place I didn't feel at home in anymore. By the same token, if it weren't for the models I've gotten to know being at MFC I wouldn't be hanging out there, either.

Anyway, WoW is a nice game, especially if you aren't a pro at MMOs. The early levels ease you into the game, and you level hella fast these days. Roll on a server with people you know. Even if you aren't the same level, you'll have someone to chat with at least some of the time. They'll also be able to give you good advice.

You also could probably use someones referral code to get them a free month and other benefits for them. Plus someone might help you level (which referrals give bonuses for leveling and such).

Speaking of which, hurry up and get back in the game! It's weird when new people join the Disciples and wonder why the tabard is blank, then I tell them I am not the GM of a guild named after me and don't have access to change anything. :D

Nice analogy! And yes, rolling on a server with friends is the way to go. You get help and company. Most times just having someone familiar to chat with will keep me playing/leveling/questing longer than if I was alone.

Well, it's good to know that that ease you into it. I played an MMO once and I was immediately asked by some people to defeat some boss, and we all lost horribly, because I couldn't click the correct buttons or move away in time. I was shunned by the people.
