Hello everyone, this is my first post on ACF. You all seem like a wonderful public, even if the gender ratio is a bit skewed towards the fair, strong sex. :thumbleft: But really, you've got quite the community here. Civilized discussions, helpful, experienced members. A rare thing on the internet.

I was hoping that you might, if you've got the time and are bored enough, reply to these worries of mine.

My name is Perkunas, :hello2: , I'm a 21-y/o, straight, non-ripped farm boy from Eastern Europe(but with excellent English, if I may be so bold). Not a great start for a cam career, is it? :-D

Currently, the only site that I've applied for and been accepted to is F4F - read on the Internets that it is a solid choice for male models. Of course, the whole goddamn internet seems to be full of contradictory accounts regarding cam-sites, and people trying to push their own agenda. So I don't know who to trust. (Your experiences with F4F would be greatly appreciated!).

I'm also not in America, so catching the peak times(I assume it would be late evening) will be... difficult. Getting up at 6 AM to start a show? Jeez... But! Duty calls. :handgestures-salute: The money is a big factor, but then again there is something that seems almost noble about camming. It's not manufacturing loads of crap that people will buy and throw away next season, so it's not environmentally damaging. And it is providing people with intimacy(or at least, the illusion of it) which I guess is all the we want, isn't it? To be understood, heard, thought of as attractive.

My question to y'all is - is it worth the slog? I'm not willing to stick vegetables up my butt, nosir. What else can I "do"? Have heard about marker shows, "food" shows(syrup and such). I'm sociable, and in the corner of the world that I'm in the only thing to do is read and work, so hopefully I could converse with the public on a wide range of topics.

Finally, any pitfalls to avoid, rookie mistakes, burnout risks, etc...?

Thank you again for taking the time to read this and reply. :)

Re: Cam-boy about to take the plunge (advice much appreciate

American time zones are not the only ones that are profitable. Many models find their schedules change quite a bit to hit their target timezones, but you do not need to wake up at 6am to do shows unless you really want to.

I have no experience with F4F.

I do not know what your sexual orientation is, but be aware that you will be catering to a gay audience. I'm also not familiar with male models to a great degree, but non-penetration models usually have a harder time making money than those who do. It is certainly possible to get by on what you want to do, but be aware that you are going to receive a fair level of abuse from members who are going to try and force you to complete sexual acts you are uncomfortable with.

♥ Read your contract
♥ Educate yourself about how F4F is going to use and share your recorded shows
♥ Understand that making the choice to cam may close a lot of doors for you (an American webcam model can pretty much forget about being a teacher, for example)
♥ Decide right now what you are going to be comfortable doing during your shows, so you aren't caught off-guard
♥ Traditionally speaking, male models make less than female models. I have estimated that the average female webcam model makes about $10 to $15 USD an hour, so that is probably a good goal to start out with.

If I were you, or any dude, I'd hook myself to Streamate. Can men get GOLD shows on Streamate? Since you don't want to do penetration, it would be easier to make money by coming up with creative shows. If men CAN get GOLD shows on Streamate, I'd sign up for daily pay in order to get them to get me said shows. I'm guessing men are at the bottom of the priority list over there.

Other than that, know that a majority of your money will come from men. Watch a bit of gay porn or a successful male cammer. I don't feel like being softcore will hurt you too much if you have something else to offer. You'll just have to have a plan that appeals to your target audience.

Re: Cam-boy about to take the plunge (advice much appreciate

I did F4F for one week before I moved to MFC. I haven't got much experience with other sites, but F4F pays about 20-25%ish of what you earn, if I remember correctly. They have fantastic support, a private model competition sort of thing, and internal forums, as well as site guides and tutorials for the newbies. I think you get automatically signed through a studio and have an assigned representative to help you with all your stuff.

But I think their privacy policy sucks, and absolutely anybody can buy the videos of the privates you do. My stuff is still on there and you can't get it off. I do not recommend it if you want to scourge yourself from the dark corners of the internet at any point in your life.

Or if you want higher percentages of what you earn. 20% suck balls man.

Re: Cam-boy about to take the plunge (advice much appreciate

I did VERy well on F4F. I was there full time for 6 weeks and made it to the top 2 spot on the site and made almost 11,000$ that month (June 2012). The men there do well, and Aella is close but it is 29% when you start and as a top model I went up to 36%. The top models on that site are vicious though and will get very jealous if you do well fast as they have had top spots there for years...they made up rumors about me and ultimately got me removed from the site.

I do not like how they treat their models. They had no proof of the claims they made against me and I was just so disposable. I do recommend SM.

Re: Cam-boy about to take the plunge (advice much appreciate

I am a guy and will be starting out this week too, doing my first session on cam4 tonight most likely, I have heard some guys say its great, other people say it sucks(mostly women I have noticed). I think gay guys go to different sites than heteros so maybe cam4 is better for males? I guess I'll find out. Kinda decided on starting there so I won't care so much about making newby mistake because people say it sucks anyways.

Re: Cam-boy about to take the plunge (advice much appreciate

I have to agree with Jicky all the way.

Try Streamate and get GOLD shows. You will be catering to a male audience, you have to definitely be comfortable with that. If you have a great personality you will do well for yourself. Make sure your cam is good (try at least a Logitech C910/C920 or better), your upload speeds are good (get the highest internet that you can where you are), make sure your lighting is good and you communicate with the room clearly with audio and you'll be ahead of 90% of men on Streamate.

It will definitely help if you are comfortable doing *some* anal, but it's definitely not a requirement if you aren't comfortable with it. Smaller toys or just fingers could help a lot if you do GOLD shows. Time zones mean nothing. I make most of my money between 12am - 5am where I live when you'd think most of America would be asleep. I get a lot of guys from other countries, too.

I just re-posted an article on my blog that I think would be an excellent read for you.
Here's the link:
Cam Modeling for the straight male.

The guy has what seems to me, to be some great advice. Check it out. :thumbleft:

It is good advice for most guys I think. I've never really had a problem with guys looking at me naked or being sexually attracted to me though and I don't have any illusions about who is going to be watching me or what I'm gonna have to do to get paid.

Here are some more articles for guys I have found on experience project, if you don't want to register just hit stop before the stupid iframe pops up:

Re: Cam-boy about to take the plunge (advice much appreciate

I finally got around to going online. 3-4 people came into my room, told me how cute I was etc. and left : /

It was on cam4 so I think they were just freeloaders who wanted a free show off someone else's tips, I guess they rank the cams by how many viewers you have so I just sat at the bottom of page 4341234123 for an hour...

I can't seem to get the scanners at my uni library to read my usb drive so I cant scan my docs for VS or streamate yet.

Even though they were guys and I'm straight I got pretty excited being watched and messing around for them though, I'm definitely gonna keep trying :) even if I only make $10-15 an hour when I get the hang of things, this is kinda fun.

I signed up for chaturbate and I think I'm gonna give them a try soon too when I get approved.

Re: Cam-boy about to take the plunge (advice much appreciate

If you're struggling to get viewers, I'd suggest setting up a Twitter or Tumblr account to promote yourself. Post your links with photos, find some promoters to post your pics and links (I know there's loads for women so there's surely some for men, too), gain followers and then tweet/post when you're going online. This helps me keep a busy room!

With Cam4 you have to build your followers then the pay off can be large cause there are a ton watching. also have to entice then to tip! can just give them all the goods ;)

Are you just posting in every thread that gives you the opportunity to promote cam4?

I find it funny that he claims to be a camboy/camgirl but his screen name is cam4_com. That doesn't sound like the screen name a model would choose.

Re: Cam-boy about to take the plunge (advice much appreciate

I also think you would have good luck on streamate.

I would add yourself as bisexual on there since you would be catering to males. You might not have much luck if you say that you're straight on your streamate profile.

And the name isn't appropriate, thus, I have PMd this person letting them know a name change is required, unless they can prove that they're an employee or official promoter of Cam 4.

The only people who should name themselves after a site are people who work for said site.

Re: Cam-boy about to take the plunge (advice much appreciate

I'm pretty sure he's on this forum but you should check out @ThorCB on twitter. He cams on Chaturbate and is strictly straight. I think a lot of gay guys like the fantasy of a straight man and it works for Thor. He also has other talents like music and a great personality that pulls people in. He might have some good advice for you.
