My Christmas sucked. My Aunt is sick ( as always) and was unable to be with me or get me any presents.
This is the second time in a row where i have been all alone on Christmas with zero presents.
This also happend to me with my birthday this year. No party, no cake, no presents. Has this ever happend to you?

I was alone today too. No one in my family was doing anything, so I didn't travel. Went to Burger King early this morning for breakfast. Slept most of the day away. Then nuked a dollar burrito for supper. No presents, no decorations, no holiday markings of any kind whatsoever.

Yep, once. I was working retail in a different city and didn't want to spend the time/money to come home. Rejected a couple of dinner offers and planned to stay home alone. Got myself Bagel Bites and champagne for breakfast, and Chinese food for dinner. Basically I got drunk and hung out watching movies with my dog. Honestly it was one of the best Christmases ever, especially after a busy retail season.

Yes Guy. Been that way for years, and to tell you the truth, I prefer to be alone on Christmas.

I don't feel left out, or hurt and lonely, none of that. What I do feel is highly annoyed by the whole affair, everyone running around for over a month with their "Happy Holidays!".

I wanted some Waffle House today. 3 within a few miles of me, and there was no hope; all 3 packed with people waiting.

Yeah, my roommate and I exchanged presents that morning, and my family/friends gave me presents either before or after. But the day itself was spent alone, and very happy!

Most of my birthdays and Christmases have been spent alone. It's no big deal, after a while you start learning that you have to make your own celebrations or find company elsewhere. I spent this Christmas morning online with my awesome MFC friends and it was the best Christmas I've ever had, even if I was technically alone.

I've been working the past three years on Christmas, so I wasn't technically alone. But today was my first time ALONE alone. It's ok. I gave my kitties their presents and gave them a yummy dinner and that made me happy.

I did enjoy watching a few present unwrapping shows on MFC. That part wasn't bad.

Working retail for five years ended up making me very "bah humbug" about any holiday of any sort. Christmas? Meh. New Year's? Blah. My birthday? Who cares!

I spent today beautifully: Went to sleep at 8am, got up at 2pm, like the vampire that I am. Puttered around not doing much of anything (I say as I list out all the things I did, I still feel like I got nothing done this weekend for some reason), washed two loads of laundry, vacuumed the part of my room that I didn't get to yesterday, edited the porn I filmed yesterday, did back-end stuff on one of my clip stores, and got a bit of knitting and some crocheting done. So, it was a normal Sunday for me.

And, no, I didn't get any presents, but..... I don't care enough about Christmas to care about whether I got anything or not.

Guy, you seem kind of hung up on getting presents. Is there something you aren't saying or talking about? As an adult I have been alone, idk, half dozen times in my life over the holidays. Instead of feeling sorry for myself, or sad, I look inward and see just how lucky I really am. I'm not homeless, I have killer internet and have never had to go hungry, I am blessed. Instead of sitting home, I went to a shelter and spent half the day. Mostly helped in the kitchen which suits the chef in me just fine and handed out clothing & jackets when it was cold enough. You get to hear some of the stories and even make a new acquaintance or 2. Again, it makes me realize how blessed I have been despite being alone on a holiday. Also some of us [loners] really like the alone factor at times. Its a nice break from the constant hubbub daily life brings. Recently I have appreciated the reliable constant love of my dogs more than some people. [Dogs dont argue nor lie to you.] Cheer up young buck, the happiness we have in life is what we make it.
Have a happy new year !

Holy shit Guy, you're way beyond the age of complaining about birthday and Christmas presents. Hell yes, they are nice to get, but if you don't get any, it's not a reason to pout and cry. Like Tesla said, Christmas is about giving. If you focused on giving, you might even find you get more out of the holiday. You might even find some reciprocity ;)

And like Bob said, you can find some kind of positive in your life. If you have a roof over your head and enough to eat, you're better off than probably 90% of the world, maybe more. Everybody has had tough times, try to focus on what you have, rather than what you don't. Just imagine those poor folks in Aleppo. Are they crying because their Aunt didn't get them gifts? Hell man, they're probably grateful to be alive.

What do you do? You seriously need to get out more. IRL more. Put the fucking phone down, turn off the fucking computer and go outside. Try to meet someone new once a day, once a week, once a month, whatever. That should be your 2017 resolution. You're tired of being alone? Your Christmas sucked? The power is in you to change this. Like Bob said (sorry Bob for tailgating), Put in a few hours at a shelter, help serve/cook/wash dishes, etc. and then sit down with those folks. I guarantee that hearing their gratefulness will cheer you. It did for me. Try going to a senior home, have a cup of punch and a cookie with some of the residents. Talk to them, or more importantly, LISTEN to them. Let them tell you their old stories. Look at the joy on their faces that they have, after having some companionship, if only for a few moments. You never know, you might even find a new friend.

I could go on, but you get the message. Parting shot: Live your life, man. Live your fucking life. Don't re-live your life.

Sincere wishes for a Happy 2017 for you.

Not sure where you are from Guy but around here birthdays are just another day for dudes. Parents buy you a car at 16 if you are lucky and that's when the presents stop.

I'm sorry that you had a lonely Christmas. There's a lot of pressure to give and receive I think. A great option if you're feeling alone is Christmas church services. Even if you're not into the religious side of things, the people, music, snacks and stuff can kind of satisfy that holiday need. I love that stale church coffee.

Yes Guy, I've been alone during those times and yeah, it sucks. But you've been given some great advice in this thread and you should seriously take it. Have you ever charitably served others? There's always someone who does have it worse than either you or I, and just like you a kind word or a warm smile does wonders for for all. Life isn't about what you gather or collect, it's what you leave behind.

I've spent Christmas alone on several occasions. The first few times I felt sorry for myself and got really depressed. That happened two years in a row. But then after that I decided that I wasn't going to do that anymore and did a self assessment. I asked myself a few questions like why did I spend the day alone? So the next year I volunteered on Thanks Giving and Christmas for an outreach program. Turned out to be the best holiday I'd ever had. Mostly because I wasn't sitting around waiting for someone to do something for me. It was very cleansing. It's been a few years since I did that but I have spent one other Christmas alone after that "awakening" and it was beautiful because again I didn't have any expectations and found contentment with Chinese food and Diehard movies. Let me ask you what did you do for your Aunt to alleviate her discomfort?

Yes I have been completely alone on Christmas.. and without presents a few times. Mostly in my previous Marriage. My parents told me Santa wasn't real because they couldn't afford to get me gifts and didn't want me to think I was a naughty child. But why do we expect gifts? I know it's traditional but the pressure is immense. My family started drawing names so we wouldn't have to buy gifts for everyone. I also have worked every Christmas for the last 6 years. The problem with holidays and birthdays is it's overrated, materialistic, and we all become a little too absorbed in consumerism. Focusing way too much on gifts instead of family. Sure it's fun.. but unfortunately for those of us under the poverty level It's stressful and damn. I'm glad it's over.. until next year.

Huge part of the reason I don't like it right there.

Yea I get pretty annoyed with the whole concept. I don't even celebrate my birthday. Today I just hung out with my sister and my boyfriend and went to work tonight. No cake or gifts. But it was a really good day. I made it to 27! I'm not hooked on drugs, in jail or dead. I have 2 jobs a apartment and a car. I have a ton of ppl that care about me so I'm doing pretty good! I'm glad I won't have to hear Merry Christmas and Happy holidays again for the 1000th time! I actually like new year's the best. No obligations except the feeling of a fresh start and new goals!

I am glad I wasn't alone on XMAS. I never expect presents so its nice when I do get them. I am a giver though so I get that satisfaction when I see my daughters get their presents. Kisses to anyone who was alone though! Here's to 2017! I can't wait!
