Ring Light VS LimoStudio Umbrella Lights?

I'm new here and have read a lot of the previous threads about the importance of lighting and how some models are even using white shade/paper lantern lamps for lighting etc.

How is something like the Neewer ringlight kit for camming instead of the LimoStudio lights which were also recommended here?

I have a neewer ringlight and I will probably never use it for camming. Filming yes but streaming I don't find it great for. It's big and bulky and if I get close to the cam you can see the reflection of the ring light in my eyes really bad.

I also don't find it works well at all for moving around. I would need to decide where I was going to stay and set the exposure and gain on my cam and stay in that place.

That being said I don't like my umbrella lights either and will probably buy softboxes soon to better diffuse my light.

The paper lanterns ladies here use are good because they get a nice even-ish light over a larger area than a light meant to specifically light just the subject gives. Giving more freedom to move around.

Thanks for the info. I decided to go with a softbox set up. After some research it turns out softbox are mainly used for filming and also more flattering whereas umbrellas are rarely used in video but mainly photography. Yea, i decided not to go for the ring light

Shoot through umbrellas are ok for film but "ok" is the key word here haha.
A ringlight is a great investment though. My photos look amazing with it and I'm going to use it to start filming clips as well. It just isn't ideal if you will be moving around a lot which on cam you likely will. I work on a private based site and even I move my camera 2-3 feet throughout my shift. If you plan to work on a social/tip based site you may end up moving way more.

Large ringlights are good if you wear glasses because the light won't reflect off them if you're looking into the camera.
