"Hello (xyzusername), would you like me to call you (name), or is there something else you prefer?" Surely you can come up with your own variation of it. This social interaction doesn't have to be navigated like a maze, feel free to ask if their name isn't made obvious from the beginning, but don't make it intrusive. There is a difference between being straightforward (good!) and excessively detail-oriented (overbearing!).

I told a guy a fake name in a private once when he pushed for my "real name".

So the next time he comes in he calls me that in free chat. *Blinks* k, thanks dude. This is exactly why you got a fake name.

Just have a fake "real name."

Sometimes I legit wish there was a “punch you” button on my computer for those asshats Apparently a lot of members have done this! Fake name is a great idea

I think I was the only one out of forty-something people who responded to the poll in Models Only asking if anyone used their real name on cam who answered yes. And although (one of my) real name(s) is something I use outright or will offer to people to call me if they find Lintilla too space-y, even I don't appreciate the question "what's your [real] name?"

At best, they're just going to get "isn't it there on your screen?" or a discussion on the definition of the word "real" from me, until they either get the point or gtfo. Anyone who won't take no for an answer has no place in my room, so pushing gets a quick block. I'll volunteer any personal info I'm comfortable sharing on my own.

For any members looking for something better to call a model than HottestAss4U, try "what should I call you?" instead of "whats' your [real] name?" It'll help distinguish you from the idiots and ignorant.

Yessss, this!!!

As a long time member, I don't really care what your real name is. I really don't even need to know your stage name in order to engage. I've found that if you are engaged in public chat and pay attention, you will soon find out how a model prefers to be addressed.

Not sure if any of that was helpful to the OP, but I will say, you don't need the guys that pressure you into doing something you're uncomfortable with. It's a power play, and then they'll be gone.

You’re correct, it’s TOTALLY a power play! That didn’t occur to me in full until you said it!

What do you say to members who are overly insistent or interested in finding out your real name?
I know I don’t “Have” to say anything, but I’m just curious how other models respond to this, because some of them introduce themselves and then get almost offended when I give them my same cam name, particularly in pvts or on a google voice text line. I’m loathe to be “rude” because I feel like it will set a bad standard for my room dynamic, but then again it’s in private, so should I care?? (Clearly I’m a big noob )
Flip side I hate as a member when I tell my name and model uses it in general chat

The way I see it, a member's screen name is what he wants to be called. I'll probably forget any alternate names he gives me, tbh, I'm shit at remembering names.

Lol me too -

Its funny I am thinking when they ask name are we sharing names? More a live Jasmine comment and in private comment.

As a member with a real name as (part) of my screen name, I do find it comical how often I get asked what my name is. I think its just one of questions that studio models have on the list of things to ask. But on the plus side, all those questions have let me know that my name, age, and country are quote "nice" on multiple occasions

Ahh when this question inevitably gets asked when I start doing shows I will probably just be silly (sarcastic) and pretend like when they say “whats your name?” what they actually mean is “i can’t read how do you pronounce that” and just be like “oh! it’s pronounced like Layla haha!!1!1!1!1!1!1!”

OOOHHHH SHIIIIT- I SAY “Oh, nice!” AAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!! I’m now going to stumble over how to respond to that!! Thanks a LOT, Johnnnn

I don't mind too much. It's a common enough first name, and one of my accounts is a variation of it.

I don't think we'll ever get away from the Age/Sex/Location questions. :p

It's so strange to me when the first thing a guy in my chat says is "call me Mike." Why not just make your screen name Mike then? Sure, I'll remember for five minutes and put it in your notes, but there's no way my brain is retaining this information. If you leave and come back in even as little as ten minutes, I'll be back to calling you ThickDick537.

I just need for guys to stop expecting models to remember their name (after telling her once) when they are back in her room a second time. Lol. If you want us to remember to call you Mike, then either put that in your screen name, remind us again that it's Mike, or do something to make yourself memorable enough for me to remember your damn name. Haha. We chat with several people a day. Now if I actually bothered to write myself a little note that you prefer to be called Mike, then I might remember. :p

Pfft... Some cam model you are. Can't remember a member's name when it's been six months between visits and he only tipped you a token.

:p :giggle::rofl:

Funny follow up on this one, when asked what my name is, I often say "guess :p" figuring they will go with John. I just did that and first the model said "nice" and from then on out called me Guess.

Maybe I need to stop being a smartass...

I'm just a troll to these people, they should know better but they ask anyway, so I don't give a straight answer. I tell anyone who asks/says anything about "real" me (what's my real name, what state do I live in, they really want to x my y) one of the following:

I live on (the Moon, Pluto, Risa) so it doesn't matter
I'm made of pixels and don't have a corporeal form, ergo it would be impossible for you to fuck my tits/why would a bunch of pixels have a name beyond the one I have when I'm operational

SaffronBurke you don't share you general metro location? Is that common for models not to share their general area? Is it not safe? I share that I am from Kansas City, MO but it's such a big city I don't specify what area in KCMO I'm from. Kind of wondering if I made a mistake...

Also on the name subject, I don't give up my real name what so ever. Ivy is my name. I'll even answer to Ivy in person at this point I'm so dedicated hahaha.

Not on cam, no. I'm pretty open about where I am on Twitter and here, but on cam, it doesn't matter because I'm not fucking you even if you're next door, random internet strange man. The people who want to know where I live never tip me or buy a show, so I don't care to entertain their nosiness.

Ahhh ok I see. Yeah, I get guys in my room all the time like "i live in KC!" "Come to my place!" "how many tokens for a meet up?" like no dude no.
I try to be a little nice about it and say stuff like "When I'm more established as a model I will do date raffles but for now we can hang out here!"

I recently blocked 2 regulars who had started harassing me for my real name, acting like they somehow deserved to know who I really am and treating Jane like she doesn't exist or isn't worthy.

Personally I find that offensive. Jane is me and I am Jane. She may be someone I cannot be in the outside world, but on cam, she comes to life.

Exactly. Ivy is a person! Jane is a person! They matter!

I'm so glad someone gets it! I almost feel like a crazy person with two personalities. Maybe I am? Maybe having Jane and Me keeps me from going crazy? Idk. But I'm not putting up with that real name BS anymore!

I tell them my state when they ask, and only my state. When they ask "What part?," I smile and tell them it doesn't matter...that's personal. When they claim that they live in the same state (or they just happen to have family out here that they'll be visiting in two weeks...cool story, bro...lol), I just smile and say "Oh, cool." Lol.

I like treating it as my other personality haha. That way I can keep my personal life and cam life separate.

I never had this problem, but that could be because I'm a guy. I recognize you ladies deal with an inordinate amount of bullshit, and some guy pestering you for personal information is just that.

I've always felt like there's this implicit social contract in camming/adult media: you don't ask personal info, you realize that there is reality and then there is fantasy, etc. We play characters - part of our job is to make viewers forget this, but not to dispose of the idea altogether. Unfortunately, a lot of men who watch cam-shows/porn don't observe these very basic norms. You don't owe anyone information that could potentially be used to dox you, blackmail you, sabotage your day job, relationships, and reputation. If a viewer cannot understand why that's sensitive information, they aren't ready to be surfing cam-sites. *Sigh* I wish there was a mandatory etiquette class upon sign-up for viewers/fans.

I get not wanting to disappoint fans, and I get lax attitudes about privacy (I mean, personally I wouldn't really care if people knew that I make adult content) BUT it's still important to protect your privacy: you never know how it can be leveraged against you, and really it's just principle: we, as models and producers, need to set a standard that says a violation of privacy is under no circumstances acceptable. We do this for all of us - the entire community.

As an aside, I'd be really concerned about a specific guy who really "needs" to know your real name. Like, why?

So , me Tarzan , you Jane
