GI Joe, Transformers, Masters of the Universe, M.A.S.K, Gummy Bears, Dungeons and Dragons, Thundar the Barbarian. Were my people at?

Awesome thread! 8-)

Jem was, and will probably always be my favorite cartoon of all time. :thumbleft:

JEM theme song (extended version)

The fact that I'm a fanatic of the color pink and love to sing are just two reasons that this is the perfect cartoon for me...lol. Jem has a BEAUTIFUL singing voice, and her voice can go very high...I love that. This was a great show for young girls with positive messages in the episodes. Watching it now at age 29, some of the episodes even bring tears to my eyes (Fathers Day episode where Jerrica and Kimber Benton remember their deceased father, etc.).

Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles

I think you mean Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and yeah, that was my shit too! :thumbleft: I was one of the turtles for Halloween once, and I had a TMNT trash can.

Shredder's temper cracks me up. "WHAT THE DEVIL ARE YOU IDIOTS DOING?!"

Yes and no. It was the same show but in the UK it was called Hero Turtles instead of Ninja Turtles. Apparently they were worried about kids being "influenced" by the word "ninja" or some silly shit :)

I always watched the smurfs. I hated the stupid Ninja Turtles! GAAA! I didn't really like any of the 'new' cartoons of those days--thundercats, transformers, all that jazz just bored me. I did watch Jem, and the Flinstones! Oh and The Muppet Babies.

Mostly though I was into soap operas and threes company and horror movies when I was a child of the 80's...and the Brady Bunch!

one of my faves was when they turned G-Force, Gatchaman from the 70's into Battle of the Planets for the USA. first real wave of popular anime besides like Robotech. I met the girl that did the voice for Jem, she's pretty cute :) I hated that the evil band was called the Misfits but wasn't the Real Misfits. lol

:o :thumbleft:

Did you meet Samantha Newark (the speaking voice of Jem/Jerrica) or Britta Phillips (the singing voice of Jem)?

Either way, that is awesome!

Met the voice actor, he also did Optimus Prime, and a ton of other voices..he's RAD!

Geez! You met the voice of Jem AND the voice of Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen)? :thumbleft:

Some good old English classics:

Dangermouse!

Superted

Bananaman

Family Ness!

I met Samantha Newark, it was a few years back at a Comic Con. Peter Cullen does a TON of coventions. I always wanted to meet Christopher Latta who was the voice of Cobra Commander and Starscream. But he died in '94.

So I've often debated, is the Smurfs a cartoon for boys or for girls?

Unlike JEM (an awesomely "girly" cartoon), I consider The Smurfs to be gender neutral. 8-)

Yea, only some hardass bullies would get pissed if they found out you liked the Smurfs. She-Ra was another one that it was sort of borderline ok for boys to watch because of it's tie into Masters of the Universe. And the She-Ra villains, Hordak and the Horde, were actually pretty burly bad guys. Their action figures were always geared towards boys. I wish I knew where all my Modulok pieces were.

I've seen most of the one's mentioned, but I like to go back a little further.

Looney Toons, Scooby Doo, Hong Kong Phooey, the Flintstones, the Jetsons, Fat Albert, and we can't forget those little snippets between shows know as Schoolhouse Rock.

thunder. THUNDER. THUNDERCATS HOOOOOOOO

only reason I didn't go back further is because dude said 80's era. Looney Toons is what got me interested in classical music.

Four o'clock in the afternoon Masters of the Universe would come on, followed by Thundercats at 4:30. **That was my t.v. time.**
My mom had custody of me on the weekends and when she got satellite t.v. I spent hours in front of it. Transformers, Voltron, Silverhawks, G.I. Joe.
Saturday mornings were always great, when I hadn't stayed up too late watching whatever.
I remember in daycare, before grade school, we'd be allowed t.v. time for a couple of hours. Amazingly we were allowed to watch M.A.S.K. and The Flying House.
I remember The Littles and get the theme song stuck in my head whenever I hear the word (or type it, apparently).

My best friend and I camped one night and sung the themes to Gummy Bears and the Disney toons (Ducktales, Darkwing, etc) into the wee hours of the morning.

**This was so important to me that when I was much younger- and dumber- I accidentally set my bed on fire and left it to watch television, hoping it would just go away; a bit of "out of sight/ out of mind."
It doesn't work. If you set fire to something, I strongly urge you to put it out. Especially if it's in the house.

Edit to add- Twenty eight (or so) years later and I still haven't left that pretty glow alone.

Edited again to add--- THUNDARR! I almost forgot about the barbarian.

I had M.A.S.K. bedsheets. Oh and another one that I loved though it was short lived-

One of my favorite cartoon intros-

If it bored you you're just dumb if you think garbage of today like Spongebob or Pokemon are better.

Three's Company started airing in the 70s fyi.

Correcting you. He was ONE of the people who have done Cobra Commander's voice. There have been others during the GI Joe series. However he was the legend. ;)

The British really had some odd cartoons. I had almost forgotten about Bananaman.
Nothing odd about Dangermouse. That was in the states as well.

I can't stand SpongeBob, which I'm sure got their 'gross humor' ideas from Ren and Stimpy.

You're a brilliant and inspirational person, bloodytampon. Clearly any person bored by a kids TV show is dumb. And if they didn't like that one cartoon 20 years ago, then they OBVIOUSLY like these kids shows today :?

I LOVE SpongeBob! Ahahaha...

I love that show :D

Can someone explain to me spongebob. Not literally. I get it he's a square sponge that wears pants, but the appeal of the show. I can see they are influenced by ren & stimpy but i'd much rather watch ren & stimpy.

I love Spongebob but I really dislike Ren and Stimpy. The way Ren and Stimpy were drawn kinda freak me out. They just seem pretty creepy for a kid's show.

Spongebob is just a yellow square. Looking at him, there's not really anything creepy looking. That's the difference I see.
