LOL it's the paper equivalent to MFC sending passwords in plaintext (ok not really but it gave me a chuckle.)

Indeed; here in Switzerland they send the card in one letter and the PIN in another 'for security' (but.. usually they send them on the same day, so both get delivered together). But at least the letter with the PIN gives explicit instructions on how to change it by going to any ATM.

Banks issue you a card, and the pin number; we also receive them in the post (not together, obviously, but some banks used to send letters with return addresses on the back which identified the bank. Retarded. Pointed that out whilst working for one bank - they rolled that change out throughout the organisation. Can't believe no-one thought of it before).

"Hole in the wall" machines allow users to choose their own PIN number. Now, I don't bank in France, but I can ask my friends if they an change their PIN number - as you can in the UK.

Most people change their PIN numbers, and worst still, many change them to all be the same :D

In nearly every scenario - the users are the weakest link.
