I have personal ground rules that help me not fall for scams online, and I thought maybe we could have a refresher thread on the whole subject.
1. If you don't hear the tip sound, if your tip vibe doesn't go off, if you don't see your tip counter going upwards, it's a fake tip! Ban that person posthaste!
~subpoint: private shows and group shows should also be showing your token balance counting up. If it isn't, then your viewer is somehow getting a free show from you; stop performing posthaste! There is also an issue on Chaturbate with new models being asked to do "password shows", give them one chance to change that to a true private and if they don't bite, just ban.
2. Nobody has advice for a new model that you couldn't get from Google or a site like here on AmberCutie. Established models are a safer source of information than a random DM-er. There is a genuine risk of having your account, privacy or dignity compromised by these people who pretend they want to help out so just don't bite.
3. Official support emails are usually listed on the website of the cam site somewhere. Often it will be the support email that you get your payment notifications from, so there should be multiple ways to double check if an email you just got is from a source you can trust. If you haven't, it's always good to brush up on your knowledge of phishing scams as I think being able to spot a phish helps with spotting other types of email scams.
4. Real contests, affiliation opportunities, and any other opportunity to earn tokens or money outside of being tipped, will be clearly available to see in the site announcements or site news. These sites want models to take advantage of everything they offer, so you should never have any secret contest going on that only a viewer/member can get you into. This is only something I've heard of recently but it sounds shady.
5. My philosophy is to just plain never go offsite. I think this might be one that needs more nuance in other situations because there are models who sell access to their social media such as Snapchat and that's valid. But for a lot of new models who jump into that, it becomes a costly waste of time as they're spending all their time on non-tippers and have a more likely chance of having a negative interaction outside the boundaries of the cam site TOS.
Ok that's all I can think of for now. But stay safe out there.
