Okay, tad bit biased towards one country - but... i'm making no comment as to the quality of the article writing, just that the existence indicates growing awareness which may help to overcome prejuidice towards such an industry amongst the general public?

Interactive webcamming is the fastest-growing sector of the global pornography business. In Romania, thousands of women work as "cam-girls" from studios and from home. It is a 24/7 market, the majority of clients logging in from North America and Western Europe.

In the heart of Bucharest on the pavement outside a tall apartment building a group of young women smoke, talk and laugh. It is an unremarkable scene. Except that in the bright morning sunlight, their heavy makeup, sky-high heels and shiny, revealing clothes contrast with the sensible, summer dress of passers-by.

Inside the building, Studio 20 occupies the first and second floors. Forty rooms open off pristine, white corridors, their walls adorned with pictures of women in states of glamorous undress. A closed door means business. Inside that room a woman is live and direct via webcam with international clients - and as long as she is alone in the room, it is entirely legal. In this world of virtual relationships and cybersex, those in front of the camera are "models" and the men who watch are "members".

Umm Studio 20 is not only in Romania, they have a location in the states as well,no,no one is forcing you to join the industry, yes they will push their ads EVERYWHERE but is up to you if you want to join the team or not.I used to work for a studio and I never had sex with anyone, I`m not saying there are not some shady "studios" because I`m sure there are,but the article is so...ehh I don`t even have words to describe it.
"in the bright morning sunlight, their heavy makeup, sky-high heels and shiny, revealing clothes contrast with the sensible, summer dress of passers-by."-whenever I left the studio to go home,I was taking off my hair extensions, makeup and wear casual clothes, and I will take a cab or use the public transportation because I didn`t wanted to raise "red flags".
It annoys me because Romania has probably the most studios in Europe, yet people are still slut shaming and pointing fingers.
End of rant!

Yes it even said in the article "Its other branches are in the Colombian city of Cali, Budapest and Los Angeles". If anyone is interested in the 10 Things to Be a successful Model that we could see in one of the pictures I typed down what I could read for those who are interested.

10 Things to Be a successful Model

1. _n in the _ of the ___ look into it all the __d __on Tv-- The News :)
2. Ignore or make a subtle mock of beggars or trolls without ever showing that you are bothered or respond to _ negative _ they ca__t to you, they will_
3. _______ according to her__wo____ or head during a conversation _ dance or senusal tease, depending on the approach
4. Have a positive attitude, show enthusiasm and be fully focused on the conversation and nothing else (no _, no_one-, no small talk on skype, ....)
5. _close _ to guests and members, not only _with m__ focus on the conversation guest -> __or__ . One guest guest turned into a member will _ you 10 times more than a ____ on the site ,because you are ____ to make the move.
6. Use a happy interactive tone of voice and speak- English - spaking while Typing is mandatory.
7. Salute members and initiate a conversation using more than 1-3 words in a line, No "Fine" but "I am fine, how about you?"
8. Always show inititive in conversations, maintain control, use open questions and approach different subjects adapted to each member.
9. Take detailed notes on all member (not only in private) that we'll use later on to be different from other models, to get a personal touch in your relationship with him.
10. Send personalized messages to members every day (even when free, from smartphone), keep a warm and constant relationship without using copy/paste, even on the phone. For regular mebers really get involved in your relationship, make surprises, create events, pretend is the real thing. 99% of regulars give up because they feel the model is just taking their money and that's it.

Sorry,I didn`t paid attention to the article, got distracted by the bs it was said there.
Sorry,not sorry!
i ve read the article and as a romanian who used to be in a studio that article has lots of parts that are not true , i refused to say anything about it because there is no point in talkin about it ! The most that annoys me are people who talk about this and give theire opinion without even knowing what they are talkin about !
Its a big pile of BS but people will believe what they want and what they hear anyway !

Nah, the awareness will do the opposite of overcoming prejudice - everyone, after all is aware what a prostitute is. There's no social push to make sexworkers less taboo - the best progress we got comes from decriminalization in certain countries.
BBC picked Romania whilst omitting british and US cam girls for a good reason - it confirms sexwork is the gig of the desperate. The poor girls at the mercy of the studios and porn industry etc. even when they work alone they are clearly manipulated and misguided. Same old shit.

I think it would be very interesting to learn whats not true in the article because if some Romanian girl or guy stumbles across this forum and this thread while trying to decide whether or not he or she should go work for a studio as a model they would at least have more information to base their decision upon.

Well I don`t know everyone`s story, but why I went with a studio in the first place was because I moved out of my home town to a bigger city and went to collage.I was young and getting a loan is not easy, even if its for school, therefor I though it was in my best interest to join the studio where they provided the pc,internet and photos that I needed. My initial plan was to stay with them for a max 1 year,I ended up working with them for 4 years because I had health insurance and other benefits and tbh I liked the atmosphere I had in that particular studio.I do work as a independent model nowadays.I will most likely never go back to a studio since I don`t need to anymore, but I did enjoyed my time there and I am grateful for the tips they give me about photography and all the good stuff camming related.
P.S keep in mind i`m talking about MY experience and I do not know how other studios work

I would say ACF is probably one of the last places a Romanian guy or gal would look to for advice about studios in their own country. Not that this is a bad resource or that we don't have Romanian industry workers in this community, but yeah. They can go to the studio in question and ask the girls who already work there or maybe ask someone they know who does it.

Experiences vary by individual, studio, and city. Simple as that really.

There is a great discussion forum in Romania, for Romanian webcam models:

And yet people talk about politics, economics, psychology, health, well being, international diplomacy... as if they "know what they're talking about". The overwhelming majority have no *real* clue... Doesn't mean they shouldn't discuss it, shouldn't expand their horizons by hearing other's opinions on a matter (up to them whether they evaluate these opinions to be meaningful, reliable, accurate or just plain bullshit of course).

The thing about opinions (other than they're like arseholes, everyone has one), is that it's formed on what you've read/experienced/know/hear/understand. It's up to the individual whether they share an opinion, but don't bemoan other people's opinions if unwilling to challenge them with information that may help shape / alter theirs!
