One of the hottest topics of 2017 is.... DESKS!

What is your desk like? How do you prefer to work at your desk? Messy? Clean? Does it matter?

I do not have a desk, my grownup papers are contained in an expandable folder that has "how to adult pls" written next to a whimsical rhinestone rainbow sticker my grandma gave to me. If I need to work on my grownup papers, I sit on my couch and use a notebook as a flat surface on my ottoman. Everything else is on my computer. My partner does have a desk, which is usually horrendously cluttered, but by god it WILL be clean tomorrow, because we are having company and I don't want people to see that. Since it's his desk and not mine, I won't share a picture of it. Here is an accurate (but staged, because I only get this shit out when absolutely necessary usually) picture of my makeshift "desk". The cat can't help but get in the way of any work happening, which severely reduces productivity.

I realize, my thing isn't a real "desk." I wasn't about to start a thread asking for pics without sharing something first, though. :p So make this thread better by sharing pictures of your actual desks in their typical states!

Don't have a desk or don't want to share pictures of your desk? Alright! Bring pictures of public figures' desks, or just bring discussion about desks! What is the best way to keep your desk? Does it bother you if people stage their desk? Do you think desks don't matter? Do you think that desks are very important? What's the psychology behind how one keeps his or her desk? Do you clean your desk if you know people will see it? Is the risk of going "paperless" that you will actually get your nose permanently stuck inside your own asshole, making doing work impossible? These are the questions the people want answers to! But mostly I just want to see your desk, bb.

I know that the discussion started in a more serious sense in a political thread, but I am now seriously just curious to see what your desks look like. :)

Hey @BlairLuxe How many intelligence agencies report printed briefings to you daily? How many reports and daily summaries of the Middle East do you have to read each morning? Is your signature required to kick national policies into effect? How many phone calls with national leaders have you scheduled for this week?

And since we are at this and your actual job is camming would you mind showing us pictures of your camroom/camdesk/toychest?

Edit: thanks for illustrating my point though, from your desk I can tell your responsibilities are that of a 5 year old. A cartoon pencilcase and a sketchpad. Sad!

Dude, this was just a lighthearted attempt at redirecting that conversation somewhere else, because I don't think that discussing desks/work ethic is an uninteresting conversation, but it was in a RIDICULOUS place. It did spark my interest in seeing other folks' desk setups, though. I feel like you read my post with snark instead of the intended lighthearted sass.

This was not about what my job is or isn't. I was mostly poking fun at what was a ridiculous conversation in the context of the thread, but is an interesting conversation elsewhere. It was a joke. It's okay to not think it was funny, but your response was pretty gross.

Edit to add: Oh dear goodness. This wasn't directed at you. You are taking this very personally. You were not the only person in that conversation. If it had been one post, or if only you were engaging in that, I would not have bothered to try to move the conversation. And honestly, I was interested in what you have to say about desks. Just not really THERE. Like I said, I think variety in how people keep their desks is an interesting discussion. This wasn't about you.

Explain to me if your intention was so sweet why you put that "grown up papers" note on your desk picture. If you are going to use this forum to ridicule other people's opinions dont get offended when the person you are ridiculing calls you out on your bullshit

I'm the troll even though you just insinuated that art is something only five year olds would do and that artists have no responsibilities.

K.

Even artists take their art seriously enough to have more than a hello kitty pencilcase and a sketchpad on a bed.

I'm a writer who has cute notepads and cute pencil cases so.... no, those really have nothing to do with each other.

I am sure everyone who can hold a pencil is a writer no matter the quality of their writings, whether or not he has been published or has an actual readership, and anyone with a case of crayons is an artist too. Which would explain why a someone who has nothing on his desk and spends 90 days a year golfing can be the President of the US and be sheltered from any kind of criticism

It was a self deprecating joke. I literally call those my "grownup papers." I was just talking to my friends about this the other day using THOSE TERMS. Because I've been out in the world for like 5 fucking minutes. Those are the only documents in my life that I don't own electronically. I'm like 2/3 of the age of a lot of people here. I work a half-decent part time job and do clips for a little cash on the side. The adult things that are important to other people just aren't important to me at this point in my life, so that is my small little collection of grown up responsibilities that can't be kept on my laptop. I wanted to see other peoples' desks. I don't use a desk. I didn't want to start a thread asking for pictures without sharing one, but I didn't have much to share about, so I made a self deprecating joke to get the pictures rolling. If I wanted to be a cunt to you I would be a cunt to you more blatantly than that, Mila. Honest.

Sure, sure you did. Such a coincidence! Why dont you just admit that creating this thread with that picture was a shitty move instead of making up some random background story to justify it? It is evident what the comment was about to anyone who read the discussion on that thread.

You can believe whatever you want, Mila. You know I don't feel maliciously about you. I can admit when I'm wrong and I can admit when I'm trying to be a bitch. The only thing I will admit to here is making a poorly received joke, and that, yes, it WAS about the ridiculousness in the other thread, and yes, you were part of that ridiculousness. But poking fun and being malicious are different things, and I truly did want to move a conversation over here even if "desk conversation" does sound like a mundane conversation to some, part of why I was poking fun at it. It's an interesting thing that sounds boring. It's funny in my mind, I guess. If you want to feel negatively, it's no skin off of my back, I'm not going to come down with you just because we giggle at different things, though.

I do hope people will still share pictures of their desks!

*comes to post a picture of my desk*

Oh look there are already tons of replies! Cool that everyone is excited to share their desks!

*finds out all the comments are because desks are a really controversial topic nowadays*

Ahem, anyways if you think Blair of all people would start a thread to personally attack you then you may be a little paranoid and be feeling a little insecure.

Well I'll be double posting in a moment to show my actual desk. Preparing to be attacked though because it actually looks like a 5 year old's desk.

It's messy at the moment because I have been super sick and have my stuff thrown everywhere from after my Vegas trip.

Normally I have a TV on my desk to game on or sometimes hook my computer up so I have a bigger screen when camming. There are also normally more prints above my desk but I knocked them down while moving the TV and haven't bothered hanging them back up. :haha:
IMG_5333.JPG IMG_5335.JPG

I mainly use my desk for on cam and for drawing/art projects. I love my desk though. :D usually have more knickknacks as well but I have been moving them around. My Pokemon perler beads, Groot, and my psychedelic candle lamp are always there though. (See, 5 year old's desk. Oops)

Yasss, Tito's, a pipe, and adorable knickknacks, a woman after my heart! :inlove:

When you see the topic and come in hella excited because desks are cool, but then you feel like you entered into the desk war of 2017 :dead:

My desk is a catch all, because it holds my PlayStation, books, lotions/perfumes, stuffed animals, etc. Very much a 5 year old's desk. Will post pictures later. #alldesksmatter

I'm gonna pretend everyone is just really excited by desks and share mine too.

This is my desk, currently taken over by lootcrate and my stereo system and blocked off by the couch, right next to my husbands desk where we currently keep the xbox and TV because he's rebuilding his computer 20170205_103251.jpg

And this is what I'm currently using as a desk, featuring my 3ds, colored pencil case, 2 notebooks, 2 coloring books, and a word search book in the stack on the bottom, and some of my smoking stuff. 20170205_103227.jpg

It's only clean because I tidied up yesterday and haven't had time to reclutter it.

Edit because my phone apparently really does not like posting images

I don't have any current pics of my desk, and won't photograph my actual desk since, ya know, day job that deals with sensitive, private, secure information for client sites (I have a real adulting desk and my desk at home, I suppose I could photograph my actual desk but I don't really work there, it's mostly my couch) but both are immaculate minus a notepad for notes, my water bottle I left at work on accident on Thursday at the last meeting-if someone stole it I know who and I'll punt him-and my keyboard is eschew. I have OCD, and though that does not mean that all with OCD are cleanly, I am obsessive about keeping my work place clear of clutter. Cluttered workplace for me = cluttered brain, and I'll focus on cleaning rather than actually solve why my server is down or why this client has a 40% failure rate on their emergency notifications, etc. If I'm clean, my desk is clean, and my brain is hyperfocusing, I literally will not eat I'll work for so long and so hard.

So, for me, clean = productive. Clutter = not getting anything done until it's clean.

That said, my writing station at my house- @EspiKvlt I'm a published writer too! :D I do horror, what do you do? - is an utter mess because my creative process is completely different from my work process. I can take a picture of that!

This is as messy as I get tbh when it comes to desks. The rest of my room, however... IMG_1114.JPG

So my desk is a wreck - it's covered in piles of paperwork that need sorted out, a betta tank that's about a week overdue for a water change and a lot of miscellaneous clutter since it's my home base for all my camming/porn/modeling work...one of my if I ever get free time projects will be to clean and organize it, but that's not going to be for a while, likely.

And @LexiSloan - I absolutely love your bulbasaur perler beads! It's my favorite starter pokemon and I've got a tiny collection of bulbasaur stuff, too. :D

My desk February 2015, about a month and a half after I moved into this apartment:

My desk today:

F0puvP2.jpg

It's actually a lot tidier than it has been, because at one point recently I was camming from my laptop in this room, and so I stashed most of my collapsing heap of paperwork that I haven't dealt with yet and don't want to think about in that Amazon box.

Most of the time when I cam from my laptop it's from this desk, which I normally keep tidyish, kind of:

Anyway, I'm a slob. It's genetic, and there's nothing I can do about it. Don't ever live with me.

This is my cam space on the top and my off cam work space on the bottom
I can not deal with heavy clutter on my work space, It makes me feel anxious and overwhelmed.

I feel so lost in this thread, kind of like I missed an important thread before and have no clue what the argument/debate was all about. I miss all the good stuff.

Kudos to y'all that posted pic's of your desks. @Excella_4Fun if that's cluttered and messy I'm so glad you haven't seen mine.
