I took the 'big' 6 hour long FE exam this past Saturday and just got my results back this morning. I passed.
To be honest I was worried. This is the one that every engineering student has to take and it tests you on pretty much every common classes all the different engineering degrees require for their degrees.
120 questions covering Mathematics, Engineering Probability and Statistics, Chemistry, Computers, Ethics and Business Practices, Engineering Economics, Engineering Mechanics (Statics and Dynamics), Strength of Materials, Material Properties, Fluid Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Thermodynamics, and Biology.
Truth be told, I'm not the best at all those subjects. Hell, it's been 20 years since I last took chemistry. It's a pass/fail test so I don't know what percentage I got right. All I know is they say it's a 'normalized' 70% cut off. Basically they include a few questions from previous exams on this one and then do statistical analysis on those to find out how students do on this one compared to prior ones and adjust the curve accordingly. That way every test, even though it has different questions, is about the same level of difficulty to pass. So that being said, I've been kind of happy today.
And then just to put the icing on the cake, when I was telling a few people the news (okay, every random person I walked past included as well :? ) I ran across a classmate who told me she failed it. Not to sound mean here but this school has 26% female population and she's cute. So for the previous 3 years I've seen her and maybe one other girl ALWAYS in a group of the same 7 or 8 guys taking all their classes together. That group tends to have one or two who has done the homework, and then that just gets passed around for the others to copy from. So it's a fair assessment to say she's gotten great grades by skating through many of her classes. I don't tend to be in groups because my general theory on them is you're limited by the most stupid person there, among many other reasons. I've always been one to go off and study on my own. So in some classes I may not have gotten the best grade, but by God I earned what I got.
When she told me she failed the exam, much like the Grinch's heart growing after meeting Cindy Lou from Whoville, my faith in humanity was restored a little bit in that moment. :dance:
