So, the GF's laptop died. It won't even attempt to turn on.

She's been having a lot of issues with her laptop, it would die really quickly if it wasn't charging. If she had to move the laptop to another room, she had to run before it died from being unplugged.

Just about an hour ago, it came unplugged and when she plugged it back it, it won't turn on at all. She has an Asus and I have a Toshiba, we tried seeing if my AC adapter would charge her laptop but it won't do anything, but her AC adapter will charge my laptop and charged it from 85% to 95% just now so I think her AC adapter is fine.

I'm assuming it is probably the battery, but I wanted to get someone else's opinion before buying anything.

Thanks : )

On my old laptop that happened when my battery was not in well enough. If you do decide to get a new battery Amazon has some inexpensive ones.

This happened to my old netbook and I also had an Asus. It was the actual charger port with mine, where it connected to the motherboard corroded and needed to be replaced but nowhere had the part and I was too impatient to wait so I just got a new one. It really isn't an expensive fix if that is the issue with hers, especially if you know someone that can solder it on it shouldn't be over $20.

I will add that I was still able to use mine for like a month after it first started acting up, I just had to twist the charger around until I found the spot it would charge, then after an hour it would stop charging again and I would have to repeat. I did this until it would not charge at all anymore so try that and see if it works then you know it is probably the same issue.

I'd lean toward something more substantial than the battery. Mind had a bad battery but would still work fine while plugged to the charger, just had to keep it plugged in.

Ya. Take the battery out of the laptop. Plug in the laptop power. See if it turns on. If it doesn't, it ain't the battery, unless someone invented a laptop that can't run without the battery.

It could very well be that the power adapter itself is dead, or the socket where it plugs into the laptop is bad. Check to see if there is some sort of indicator light on the laptop indicating it's plugged in, and make sure it lights up when you plug it in.

If the laptop lights up indicating it's getting power, but still won't turn on, you're probably pretty fucked.

This right here. It sound like the battery may be dead/dying as well with how it was behaving before but there's probably a more serious problem. If you do the above and it still isn't turning on, then you'll know you're dealing with something more than the battery.

Thanks, guys.

We will be getting a new laptop soon anyway (by the end of this month to September) so it's not a huge deal as we still have my laptop anyway, but she was wanting to give her laptop to her father after she got the new one.

She says that this happened to her a long time ago but not as bad and that it had never turned on without the battery inside it if it was plugged into the charger, though. I don't know, we'll have to get it checked out soon then.
