sooooo i'm starting college soon and being desperate for money i decided to start doing a few things online mostly through craigslist. i've been selling my panties and some pic sets and a couple short skype sessions and i've made a decent amount so far. unfortunately i was afraid of my privacy being compromised so i created a second paypal with a fake name to send money to my real paypal but i stupidly didn't transfer it into my bank yet and the other day i got limited account warnings on both paypals asking me for all sorts of information i can't fully provide. so i have two questions for you more experienced ladies out there:

1. has this ever happened to you, and were you able to resolve it or did you just wait out the 180 day period and then withdraw everything? (i read this is what happens, you get your money after 6 months in a check or something)
2. if you couldn't fix it, what do you recommend as a safe and discrete way to receive money from guys online? i've heard of moneypak and then i guess some people receive checks to a p.o. box. is there anything else i'm missing out on?

thank you soooooo much in advance for any help you can give me! i really need it!

Paypal is notorious for shutting down accounts for even suspecting that they are involved in adult business. I'm not sure about that 180 days thing, but I would assume the money is gone and you may be permanently banned from PayPal.

Do NOT accept personal cheques from guys, they may bounce or they may access your personal information.

I have heard good things about GiftRocket (haven't personally used it). Are you camming (or considering camming) on a site like MyFreeCams or Streamate? Any site you work on can handle payments for you, as well. You could book your Skype shows through CamModelDirectory, which takes only 20% (I believe) but is a secure payment processor.

i told paypal a lie that i was accepting money from a guy i met online who wanted to help me out after hearing my living situation and he agreed to tell them the same thing if they contacted him so i think they might believe me but who knows. i have read multiple things that after 180 days you're guaranteed your money and that's what they told me as well so i can only hope for the best because i have over $1000 in there right now.

i can't do a cam site as i really don't want my face out there at all and i know i couldn't get away with camming without showing my face. props to all you ladies who are brave enough to do it but i really want to be as private as possible. i've been using a fake name, no face showing, all sorts of stuff to protect myself as much as possible.

giftrocket looks like it might work alright, i will keep that one in mind. thank you so much for the quick response!

You don't have to show your face on clips4sale, just sayin. I don't in most of my clips.

how does that site pay out? to bank or credit or something else? and is it hard to get traffic to your clips without advertising somewhere? the site looks really really big.

Excuse my ignorance if this is not the case, doesn't Extra Lunch Money exist to facilitate just this sort of business? I always took it to be kinda like the Etsy of porn.

Yep, ELM can be used for panties, camshows, whatever really. Its a pretty good site, and I don't believe you'd ever have to show your face publicly.

However with ELM or any other site you do have to give your ID, real info (name, bday, etc) plus usually a verification photo for the staff's eyes only. Obviously there are loads of reputable sites that won't share your info (in my experience ELM and the aforementioned Clips4Sale have been great) but if you are super paranoid about your identity, that may not be for you.

Also this is likely staying the obvious but if you are showing your face on Skype, it can of course be recorded. I don't doubt you know that but just in case!!

And the Etsy of porn  I love it!!

i don't mind showing my face as long as it's not to my customers... and i don't show face on skype. all below neck only.

Are you saying you made a PayPal with a fake name? Even if they don't figure out and ban you for doing adult work I'm not sure there's much you can do with a PayPal account that's not associated with you REAL name.

Pretty sure its also considered fraud.

yes i did. i didn't want the guys getting my real name (because the name shows up when you send someone a payment) so i made the fake name account to funnel to my real paypal account. paypal seems more concerned about my real one though.

Are you saying you made a PayPal with a fake name? ...there's [not] much you can do with a PayPal account that's not associated with you REAL name.

Pretty sure its also considered fraud (emphasis added).

I'm not trying to be pedant, but the term "fraud" is so specific and sometimes so scary for people, I try to be extra careful about its use. "Fraud" is a criminal offense where most other things that people might worry about are only torts - civil offenses.

Usual disclaimers - IANAL, YMMV, etc.

State laws vary on specifics, but "Fraud" generally has to include, from Wikipedia, an "intentional deception made for personal gain or to damage another individual."

Just using a fake name, aka a pen name, business name, etc. is not "fraud". But often there are banking-specific laws about using legal names that might get a person into trouble. Many paper banking and finance forms, like tax returns, opening a new savings account and such, have a signature line with a statement similar to "By signing above I swear these statements, to the best of my knowledge, are true and accurate." Knowingly using false information on those forms certainly can lead to a world of trouble, even if just "civil" trouble, like fees, fines, liquidated damages from broken contracts, et cetera.

As for the specifics of using a pen name, stage name or other pseudonym, search your state's web site for business rules about "dba" (doing business as), such as "Internet Ventures IV, LLC" dba "Jimbo the Clown Entertainment". The company (or sole proprietor) is the legal name of the entity (corporation, partnership, person), and the dba name is the name they use in public. This lets the performer who acts as a clown at kids' birthday parties be known as (by name, in the phone book, receive checks from parents) as "Jimbo the Clown", but the actual legal entity (files taxes, pays unemployment insurance, etc.) is "Internet Ventures IV, LLC."

As to the your privacy concerns, though, states' dba registers are just like their corporate registers--they link the legal name with the dba name and are usually public records. That means a person could look up the names of people associated with a dba. It might be completely public (available with a free web search) or a person might have to visit a county clerk or other official office and pay a fee for a records search.

In the case of PayPal, registering a "personal" (as compared to "business") account under a "dba" name might be a violation of their Terms of Service (TOS), so they might close the account regardless of your intent.

Again, I Am Not A Lawyer and Your Mileage May Vary, but I hope the above was at least mildly enlightening.
