"What's in a name?" (quite a bit I think)

I've always been fascinated with how and why someone chooses a certain cam/screen/username for themselves. I thought it would be cool to have a place where people (models and members) could tell how they came up with their "names". (I searched for a thread, and couldn't find one, so I figured "why not start one")

I remember DuoShi being asked in another thread about the origins of his screen name and it was really interesting, so here we go!

My screen name, "hapa74", comes from the fact that I'm Half Japanese, and the Japanese side of the family comes from Hawaii, where the term "Hapa" is used all the time to describe people of mixed descent (mainly half Japanese). The "seventy four" can be figured out pretty easily too ;)
I have since changed my name on MFC to "HaPond" in honor of the awesome "KayleePond", but most people still call me "Hapa"

I will add that my name is fluid on MFC, on most costume nights in Kaylee's room I will change my name to match the theme (HapSolo anyone?)

I'm horrible about coming up with screen names, so I tend to grab them from books I'm reading or games I'm playing at the time, but I tend to misspell them without realizing it until for quite a while.
That started way back when I first signed up for an aol email account that included the word guardian that I ended with 'on' instead.
My current screen name is lifted from A Song of Ice and Fire, specifically the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch Mormont, which I thought had an 'e' in it.

Back when I was about 18, my bandmates and I used to go to Denny's all the time since it was the only thing open at all hours nearby. We used to dick around there a lot, even got the waitresses to let us play an acoustic set at like 3AM in a corner booth and they hooked us up with free grub. I was usually the driving force behind pushing towards going to Denny's, which we initially referred to as the D-Zone... time went on and it was dubbed after me the "Deez-Zone"... aaaaand I became Deez. Name stuck and 10 years later it's still my nickname.

The rest of it is kind of a quadruple-entendre... the NA referring to North America (in reference to which servers I played online games on), standing for NeedsAmmo (which was born from my past in CounterStrike since I would always run out of ammo and whine about it), the element Na (sodium) since I love salty food and all together DeezNA is a play on DNA.

Soooo that's how DeezNA was born.

A few months before I became a cam girl, I went about two weeks without internet, so I watched a lot of movies instead. I would watch the movie Little Miss Sunshine over and over, and the girl in that is named Olive.

For the last name Dean, it's from the movie The Iron Giant. One of the characters is named Dean.

So basically I was very bored with no internet access, so my cam name came from movies. :)

My nickname "Carina" came before camming. A good friend that spoke mostly Italian gave me the nickname since she has trouble saying my name. It's very similar! She is about 60 years old and said she grew up with this:

I knew I wanted to have the cute alliteration "CC"
At first I thought of Cat, then I thought of being punny and saying "Chat" for cat in French but I knew by that point, it would just register as regular chat and go over most heads. French because I was very influenced by my French side of my family, their style and new wave films. I thought then of something like house, bedroom or castle as a surname. I went with castle, Chateau, and it still has the chat in it!
:love2:

My name is Steph Brooks, username SexySteph. Before that it was SexyStephXS and before that StephanieXS.

I came up with my name because I figured a good porn name is a rich ditzy girl sounding first name and then a pretty last name that is realistic and is also a word that means something, maybe something nature based. So I chose Stephanie Brooks. And then for my screenname I originally had the XS cuz I'm super super tiny.

My name sucks compared to a lot of girls. lol

My name is Cora Borealis- Cora is just a name I liked, I wanted something cute and short, with sort of an old-fashioned feel. The last name actually came from one of my regs, on a night when I was having a glitter show & he thought I looked like the northern lights. I think it suits me well (before that I was YourCora on MFC).

I wanted a name that sounded real, so first and last, but that also had a bit of porn-ish nuance. So I took the phrase 'gimme more' and turned it into 'Gemma Moore'. I absolutely love it, it suits me perfectly, and sometimes I actually refer to myself as 'Gemma' in my head instead of my given name... :shifty:

When I first joined MFC, I my username was 'GemmaMoore146', because for some reason I had it in my head that the numbers would help people remember my username (no idea if they did or not.) I later shortened it down to just 'GemmaMoore' towards the end of my time on MFC.

I currently go by 'MissGemmaMoore' on Streamate, because I needed a slightly different username for SM than I already had on MFC, but I didn't want to change the base of my name at all. So I slapped a cute-sounding honorific on there and called it a day. This has also lead to a few regs calling me 'MGM' for short.

I actually wanted to go by just 'fay', like an institute you know, like 'madonna' or 'prince' or camgirlcrush 'vex' but luckily changed my mind to a username I could use everywhere (that wasn't taken on MFC and twitter, so the extension would be the same everywhere) Fay is just a name that sounded pretty and in dutch means 'fairy', I figured that suited my semi-fantasy style. Galore is just something I added to give it that burlesque stagename feel. I'm pretty happy with it, it's not being used by someone else, people can call me by my 'first name' and if you google it you find me.

I like Fay! Fay or Faye, it's a really nice name for people from our general area :)

Fay Galore reminds me of "whiskey galore", which, in the case of a cam girl, is an extremely nice association to make, right?

I just took my extremely common middle name and added some teenage flair to it :)

I got my name from Poe. And it's a very southern sounding name that fits me pretty well, better than my real name even. But for SEO I decided to spell it like a retard :thumbleft:

The thing I dislike most about the name is guys that come in my chat and recite the entire poem to me and think they're the first to do it.

I can't really explain how I came up with ThundrWeasel. It's not that I don't WANT to, it's just that I can't. I can't even explain it to MYSELF. I needed a username when I became a premium on MFC, and things kinda mashed together in my head in a way that I could never ever replicate. Or something like that.

I had a "outing" scare with my original cam name that I used for the first 4 years of camming. There were so many screencaps of me online that I did not want this particular person gettinga hold of, so I spent a few days DMCA'ing most of what I found and then I changed it to something that would not link to me when it was googled. I am sure it is possible to find caps of me now under this name, but it is a lot more difficult as I am buried in a sea of "camgirls" when you search my name.

I'll do two of mine I'm mostly known for.

JerryBoBerry - Saw the word Jerry on a piece of junk mail sitting on my table when it came time to sign up. I like The Name Game song. Took approximately 4 seconds to come up with it.
Jerry jerry Bo Berry Banana Fana Fo Ferry Fee Fi Mo Merry jerry

I get the name game recited to me often as well whenever I'm on this account.

Capt_Vallo - Main character in my favorite movie, The Crimson Pirate, starring Burt Lancaster. Also the main avatar on my profile. http://profiles.myfreecams.com/Capt_Vallo

I have my degree in Culinary Arts; was a pastry chef for a long time SO.. I knew I wanted Baker as my "last name" I was having the convo with my ex and I told him I wanted a slutty Italian name (No offense to anyone named Bianca!) so he looked at me and said "Britney" AND I said "Thats not an Italian name.. HOW about Bianca" and then it sounded so good I kept it.. I didnt realize that my initials were BB lol.. I am one of those girls that dont mind being called BB so its kind of funny when guys go "HEY BB" and I am like "YES I am Bianca Baker" lol.

Saffron is the character from Firefly, and thus the name of my D&D character for ages - I figured that Saffron would make a fitting rogue. I figured it would be a good stripper/camgirl name, as well, but Saffron alone was already taken, so I added "Sweet" to the beginning of it. Earlier this year, I decided to add a last name, and, after poking around the internet at name meanings, I decided that I liked the meaning of Burke - "well-defended fort", plus, it's the last name of the main interest in one of my favorite smut novels, so there's a reference that Bertrice Small fans may get.

So I peeved on you online the other night, and I remember being all "DANG! I love that girls name!!"

I went on a gigantic road trip a few years ago. I stayed with one family who had an awesome cat named willow, and another one who had an awesome cat named James. So, my name is just tribute to these two awesome cats. I also wanted something that sounded real (first and last names), as well as something nature-y.

I wish I had a cool origin story, but I don't, really. Initially I picked a name loosely based on something I wanted, but which was taken. After trying to google myself I realised there was a brand of body care stuff with the same name. So, I had to change it. I had a lot of ideas for things I really liked, but were all taken/branded.

Really, I wanted a name that meant 'siren' or one that had the meaning my given name does. Unfortunately, most of those and every variation I wanted were spoken for/didn't sound right. (I'm obsessed with sirens and the mythology surrounding them.)

Juniper Gin/Juniper Ginny has no real significance behind it, other than the fact that I like Tanqueray Rangpur, I like the name Juniper, and gin is made from Juniper berries.

Lintilla is the name of a woman from the Hitchhiker's Guide radio series who was meant to be cloned six times for a Brantisvogan escort agency. Due to a malfunction, the machine begins each new clone began before completing the previous one, so it couldn't be shut off without committing murder. In Fit the Eleventh of the radio series there are at least 578,000,000,000 Lintillas. By Fit the Twenty-Sixth there are 800,000,000,000.

I figured it was sufficiently porny (although the first Lintillas encountered in the series have decided to become archaeologists), sufficiently obscure so that I can usually get the username wherever if I'm fast enough, and simultaneously sufficiently anonymous through imaginary non-obscurity considering the enormous number of Lintillas. And of course, Douglas Adams is my favourite author.

If I can't get just Lintilla somewhere I add Taylor as a last name. Sounds decent enough. Shrug. It's a family name. No thought went into that one at all. Previously I had used Taylor Grey and several other versions of Something Taylor and Taylor Something.

I played a lot of clue growing up..
literally that's kind of it! And I would always argue with my sister over who got to be Miss Scarlet because she was so pretty and so obviously the best character :p
then years later when I came home with bright red hair my sister was like "oh wow you actually are Miss Scarlet now" and the name kind of stuck! when MFC asked me to enter a cam name it was a total no-brainer :)

"Lacey La Plante? Why not just call me Mary Jane Weed Dealer??"

It's from the TV show weeds.. I was watching it at the time and I was smoking a lot of pot (though, I've never dealt weed before as the name would imply). It's the characters name on her fake ID. I thought it would be a funny fake name.
