This saddens me, my favorite vodka and now I can't buy it ever again (if I still drank vodka). :( There's a really fucked underlying message in this picture/advertisement and while I too have a sick and screwed up sense of humor, this is not one of the categories I would take into consideration for it.

Only thing that comes to mind is: wrong, Wrong, WRONG

Yeah, wow, this is shocking. How it ever was published I think would be interesting to know. I can only imagine it was the choice of a single (no longer employed) individual. Does Bawksy work in advertising?

I have to wonder how many people saw this before it was approved.

Probably a whole board room full of mid-40s men, trying to be "sardonic" or "ironic" or whatever word the kids are misusing these days, convincing themselves it was "edgy" and not "blatantly offensive."

That said, I find this relevant:

OK I really hope it was not more than one persons decision, - I hate to think that there might be even 2 or 3 ppl who would all think this was OK.

And I suppose I might get some flack for this, (I even understand why), but i found the vid  . Perhaps I should understand that there is no real difference between the two and therefore should find one no more appealing than the other. our feelings are more about the gut, than what we understand. And honestly my gut reaction to the two was very different.

The video is a comedy sketch. It's supposed to be

I found it relevant becaue that's how I imagine things went down at Belvedere while they were trying to come up with a reason that this ad campaign they're doing is somehow even remotely in the realm of appropriate.

I found the same thing where I was a tradie a couple decades ago. Put 10 men in a room for the day and they change from reasonable guys with wives and girlfriends into monsters, who's comment on seeing a pretty girl would be along the lines of "gee I'd like to fuck that"

I always found the contrast bemusing. I suspect if there had been a woman in the room when the decision was made, that add would never have have made it to air.

Edit:
I just came across this as well, which is the reverse situation.

http://now.msn.com/now/0324-forever21-a ... knees.aspx

Forever 21 has now removed the knees from pictures of models in their advertisements. Who the fuck decided that this was a good idea. Do women not have enough body image issues without being told that there knees are unattractive?

I understand The difference, but I was afraid, and believe there are some who would say that we should not be amused by anything that uses rape as a premise for the joke. I'm not so sure we should, but I thought it was funny, while maintaining there is nothing funny about rape.

I think that the reason the sketch is funny is that it's not about rape — it's about clueless advertising people. The kind who probably came up with this vodka ad, actually - the process of convincing themselves that something that's obviously not even within the REALM of appropriate (in the case of the video, the whole "GRAPIST!" thing) is TOTALLY appropriate ("I mean, come on, he's a grape!"). That sort of absurd juxtaposition and the fact that we all know that this sort of thing goes on FOR REAL (see Belvedere's stupid bullshit "lol, rape!" advert) is what, I think, makes the VIDEO really funny and the actual advert INCREDIBLY offensive.

Yeah I shouldn't either, people are f'king morons defending this ad and saying there's no proof it's implying rape

It's funny in the right context. It's unfortunate that an ad for an alcoholic drink is not the right context. EDIT - I feel I want to clarify a bit. Here's an illustration:

What do you call a sheep tied to a tree in Wales?
A leisure centre.

You are right. It is funny in the right context and maybe because alcohol leads to it's far share of "serious" rape is why most people (myself included) think it's in poor taste to use that to advertise. Now...drunken porky pig & elmer fudd...I might have returned to vodka for that type of ad.

Sheep fuckers, Dane Cook and George Carlin.. Now we're getting somewhere...  :orcs-cheers:

I expected is was going to end up being one of those pretend ads people tend to make on the interwebs where they take the companies tag line and throw it on an applicable, but inappropriate picture. I'm surprised anyone thought this was a good idea to use as an actual ad.

Or it could be an underhanded but effective way to gain publicity. Whether that will translate into sales, who knows, but I suspect idiots out there actually legitimately think this is funny.

That would still be a tasteless thing to do.

Am I the only one that sees kneecaps?

I dunno... I didn't immediately get the context from the ad that everyone else is getting. Even still I don't think it's a very good ad but to me it makes very little sense. Maybe I just fail. Luckily it doesn't matter that I didn't "get it" since I don't drink anyhow.
