I only started cam modelling last week and I was at home as it was a student holiday here, so I was using my mums laptop. Obviously I was using "incognito mode" so she didn't see anything in the browsing history. A few days after I stopped, she has now got a virus, it's the one that says you need to pay them money or they'll tell the police about your illegal activity. I know it's actually not from the police and is just a virus but does this count as illegal activity? And when she takes the laptop to get fixed will the people in the store be able to see that I am a cam model? And will they mention this to my mum?

I'm just really stressed out, because my mum really cannot know about this, she will literally kill me and I'll feel uncomfortable around her for ages. Me and my mum really don't have that much of an open relationship, I don't even tell her about any guys that I actually like in real life, never mind getting naked for strangers for money.

You're using the word "mum" and "holiday" which leads me to believe you are NOT from the US.. (I do that too...)
Sooo you need to tell us what country you are from? Camming is illegal in some countries.

If you installed the cam software on your computer, someone might notice it and ask questions.
If it's just through the browser, incognito mode should protect you completely.
The only thing I can possibly imagine staying on your computer is cookies, but I would assume incognito mode deals with that too, and I don't even know if they'd give anything away.

If you're asking if the virus has anything to do with camming, no, and if it *is* talking about your camming I will be flabbergasted and consume the entirety of my hat.

If you have nothing in your browser history, you are safe. However, they may make a comment about the kind of site that often is the source of this kind of infection. You don't get it from camsites, however.

You may be able to take are of this yourself by downloading Malwarebytes software. It's pretty good. The paid version is worthwhile, in my opinion, but the free download will be just as good at removing spyware, etc.

It sounds like its just the virus trying to scare you (or take your computer hostage) into giving them more of your information and money. I've gotten viruses in the past that tried to pose as a virus remover program.

Relax, this has nothing to do with camming. You haven't been found out, you just have some malware. Bookmark the thread (on the forum here not on your browser) so you can get back to it. Then restart your computer and see if it works for you.
Then i suggest you also do the other suggestions in there too. Especially Ccleaner and malwarebytes.

Now if this is a variety that will not let you get to web pages or control panel or run anything to stop it then download RKILL from another computer and run it on that one. It will stop that program from running so you can remove it by other means. Rkill will NOT remove it, only stop it. So if you don't do the other stuff it will be there after restart again.

Oh, and a side note. This virus probably didn't come from any modeling site. Most likely from a regular porn site. So if you've ONLY used your mum's computer for modeling then she most likely got virus from her browsing. And if you've got a younger sibling in the house blame it on them. :lol:

It's called the "FBI" virus. I work on computers as a part of my retail job - and if you need advice as far as how to remove it, let me know. I have never personally done it, but I do know my Assistant Manager knows how to. I can find out and help you. Otherwise, you can take it somewhere and have it removed. But it may cost you between $80 & $150.

My suggestion is to run a full back up of your files - and then do a "factory restore" to the computer. Load all the files and settings back. You could also try recovering your computer to a previous time. Go to Help and Support in your start menu and search for "system restore." Good luck.

Restart the computer in safe mode and run an antivirus scan. Usually it is as simple as that if the scan finds and deletes it. Or if you use system restore you can often restore to the day before it showed up. I have had success using both methods.
