Hi! I'm a writer and journalist, looking to speak specifically to webcam models who use Yahoo to broadcast. I want to talk about the news that UK spy agencies have hacked and collected huge amounts of webcam pictures. The original story is here http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/f ... rnet-yahoo

Anyway, I would love to speak to anyone who might be affected by the fact that there may be spies from GCHQ watching on camera. If anyone would like to speak to me about this, or if you can think of anyone else who might, that would be great - my email is nicholas.j.woolf@googlemail.com. I'm totally happy to speak on your terms - protected identities, that sort of thing is all fine.

Thank you for your time!

Nicky

You can use Yahoo to broadcast...? How.. how do girls get paid? Isn't that story more related to people using Optic Nerve and just kinda... normal people? I mean, people not broadcasting for profit, but just getting it on with their partners? It's sucky, but at the same time I don't know if camgirls are really that affected, at least not directly. I think a good chunk of webcam girls assume that, at some point, somebody will see their bits without paying. It kind of comes with the territory. Even if it is weird that our tax dollars are paying for it.

We actually were just talking about this in my room last night. I hope the NSA has seen my boobs. They're fantastic. ;)

Yeah, pretty much what Charlotte said!

I've never heard of a camgirl using Yahoo to broadcast. The ONLY way I could ever see it happening is in the same situations people use Skype (they get paid via giftcard or something or paid in advance via their main cam site and then meet up on an outside platform). But seriously the VAST majority of people doing that use Skype for that purpose and it is widely known as the preferred platform for camgirls to do shows outside of their camsites.

I can't imagine anyone working through Yahoo in the way that you're implying. I'm not saying there's no chance that it's happened, but it seems quite unlikely.

As Charlotte said, I think the main people who are likely to be affected are people using it for personal reasons to have sexy time with their significant others and such.

Good luck to ya though!

On the topic of Yahoo I know when I signed up for cam model directory you needed a yahoo ID. So, I'm betting some girls do use it for that.

A studio model wanted me to use Yahoo for a show once, but I did not trust her and turned it down.

Back in the very early days of camming, before sites like MyFreeCams, girls used to use yahoo chat rooms to solicit (solicit sounds like such an ugly word) cam shows. Pretty much all you see in the chat rooms now a days are just bots. Sites like MFC and streamate have made camming "the hard way" pretty much a thing of the past.

Yeah, I remember a model who used Yahoo for off-site direct-payment privates back before Skype became dominant. It's not any more or less sketchy than Skype. Haven't heard of anyone using it instead of Skype in ages, though.

You're a journalist? Which organisation are you affiliated with? (*whispers* I know which you contribute to at times - Google helps with that).

Secondly, how on earth would anyone know they're "affected". After all, the models are watched daily by tens, hundreds, maybe thousands of individuals. What's the difference for them if someone else is watching? Are you searching for "outrage" here? It'd be best to locate actual victims rather than cast a trawl net over potential or possible victims to get their response.

Anyway, to help with your searches - from conversations I have had - Yahoo is essentially prevalent in Eastern Europe. At least, it was until a few years back. Skype has made ground. Whilst we seemed more MSN/Skype/AIM - East Europe was Yahoo. But I think you'll still find most Eastern Europeans use YH over Skype for chatting to friends.

p.s. I wouldn't write your email on the forum like that either. Nothing to do with spies or anything, everything to do with web crawling spam bots that search out emails for spam purposes! Simply create an image with your email address in it and then paste that in img tags. Whilst it's possible for bots to pick out words from images, their prevalence is lower.

From experiences of dealing with The Guardian (used to get media requests from them near weekly, which were always declined), something isn't right here. They usually have their own internal email addresses, not a dropable Google one.

Never struck me as the most honest of papers, either. Not helped in light of them trying to smuggle a lot of confidential documents across borders.

Not sure "comment is free" is full blown paid up for journalist (Guardian section the OP has been published under - and by full blown paid up for - i mean on the Guardian payroll). I'd guess 'Freelance'.
