I have been thinking about camming for a while now and I have been doing alot of research so that I will be prepared when I start, but one of the things I'm having trouble finding is if camming is legal where I live in the US? I live in Kentucky and I can't seem to find much info on this, if anyone has any info that would be awesome.

While camming may very loosely fall under prostitution laws in some states, it's not something that any law enforcement would bother wasting resources on.

For example, in Iowa, the state I live in, prostitution is defined as "stimulation of the genitals of another or oneself for the purpose of sexual excitement in exchange for money", (not an exact quote of the law, but basically what it's saying). But is anyone going to arrest me for fapping on camera? No, they have bigger fish to fry.

We have a lot of laws on the books that nobody enforces - for example, BDSM is technically illegal in Iowa as well, as it's against the law to give another consent to harm you. Nobody has been arrested for that for decades, and we have a flourishing kink scene, because law enforcement just isn't going to be bothered to do anything about it.

I belive it is actually illegal. It's a class B misdemeanor but if the personew is distributing more than one piece of obscene martrial then it is a class A misdemeanor.
I wouldn't worry. Those laws are not enforced and haven't really been updated since '75. I live in Kentucky and never have I once worried about getting in trouble for what I do.

Thanks for the replies, I haven't started camming yet, but I plan to and I guess the big reason I'm asking is because I know I'm going to have to file taxes, so that's why I'm wondering what's legal and what isn't and if I do start camming how can I file taxes if I'm not sure if it's legal? Hopefully I'm making since. I know that camming alone is legal I think but camming nude or doing sexual acts on cam for money is what I'm wondering if it's legal but I haven't been able to find much on the subject in ky. I do agree that they have bigger fish to fry though so I don't think I would have to worry about any trouble.

You'll file taxes as an independent contractor. How much you say about what you do will depend on who you use. I personally use TurboTax, as I have an office job, too, and it's easy to file both at the same time. For my camming income, I put in that I'm a performer, enter my 1099 information, and it allows me to write off "props", "costumes", and "makeup".

Camming is legal, and even if it wasn't, you'd still have to pay taxes. The IRS doesn't care if your income is legally earned; it's income and you have to pay taxes on it. Escorts pay taxes too.

Oh ok awesome! I wasn't sure how that worked when you pay taxes as a cam girl or even if it was legal where I lived so I just wanted to make sure. Thank you all for clarifying all of that for me, this has helped alot!

This is so fascinating.

When I lived in a Southern USA state prostitution was illegal, but the filming of sex and making pornos wasn't. So clients could get around getting arrested if they hired a gal to "make a porno"

Like in Canada we have laws on obscene material ... but camming wouldn't fall under that. Im so fascinated by Americans.

I think that Florida has laws against pornography involving vomit and urine. That's probably what it was.
Also, In 2008, a porn producer named Max Hardcore was sentenced to prison on federal obscenity charges for distributing pornography that showed him vomiting/urinating on porn stars.

No, that isn't what it was. There are laws on the books against obscenity in Florida that technically were being broken. There was no urine or vomit. Simply just a super conservative Sheriff in a southern town.

Why didn't they take it to the supreme court?
